But for the past couple of years, I’ve been dealing with thinning around my edges, and it’s one of those insecurities I’ve been dealing with quietly for some time now.

I couldn’t tell you if it was hormones, stress, or tension from all the braids I used to wear. All I know is that it is frustrating as hell trying everything under the sun and not seeing any real progress. I’ve tried the vitamins, the supplements, ALL the things, and nothing was doing what I needed it to do.

That’s why I’m so happy I found @meetgreatmany. They specialize in science led hair restoration, and I’m currently doing their PRP treatment to help stimulate hair growth in the areas that have been thinning. #GreatManyPartner

• boiled eggs
• red or white onion
• avocado
• cilantro
• jalapeño
• serrano (if you’re a spicy girl like me)
• fresh squeezed lemon and lime juice (yes, you need both and yes, it MUST be fresh squeezed)

• lime pepper seasoning (you can use lemon pepper too)

Coconut Black Bean Stew

INGREDIENTS (yields 4-6)
2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
1 sweet potato, cubed
1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 red onion, chopped
1 small green pepper
2 cups vegetable broth
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
1 cup coconut milk
1 tbsp coconut oil
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp onion powder
2 tsp complete seasoning
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
Salt & pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS
In a large pot over medium heat, add in coconut oil, and sauté onion and green pepper for 2-3 minutes or until onions become translucent. Add in garlic and cook for another minute until garlic becomes fragrant.

Add in vegetable broth, sweet potato, green pepper, ginger, cumin, oregano, onion powder, complete seasoning, and smoke paprika and cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add beans and coconut milk and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a low simmer and cook for about 15-17 minutes.

Add in cilantro and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, serve over a bed of brown rice and enjoy!

One thing about it, I love me a salad! 

I choose a good base, prioritize protein, fiber, healthy fats, and then add whatever else sounds good 😂 (within reason)

Oh and make sure you top the salad with this Maple Dijon Dressing: 

1/2 cup of extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 of cup grainy dijon mustard
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of REAL maple syrup
1 tbsp water (to thin it out a little)
3 garlic cloves 
Salt & pepper (to taste)
Dash of nutmeg (optional)

Would you try this salad? It was so bomb! Running it back tonight lol

Date butter has been a non-negotiable for me on the fast since I started almost 10 years ago. Since you can’t have any sugar or sweetener of any kind, I let the dates work their magic. I tried out the viral Mexican Tuna Salad and it’s everything baybeee… it’s everything  they say it is! I knew when I saw it on @jessicalaure_l page that it was gonna be good. I’ve lost just over 23 pounds in the last eight months and I look and feel better than I have in almost 10 years.

This caption is gonna be long, but read it. 

I’m sorry to break it to you, but there is no magic trick. At the end of the day, it comes down to consistency and discipline.

I don’t do well with extremes, so I didn’t crash diet. I didn’t take GLP 1s. I didn’t use weight loss supplements. 

I made this lifestyle shift:
• Mindful eating
• Strength training 3x a week
• Cardio 5x a week
• Limiting alcohol

Mindful eating was the biggest (and hardest) change for me. 

For two months, I ate in a strict calorie deficit- 1500 calories a day. Then a slight deficit. Now I eat at maintenance. I learned to understand my macros and what I was actually putting into my body.

Y’all know how much I love food. If I could, I would eat sushi every day 😂 And while I still love good food, I had to accept that not every meal is gonna be an experience. FOOD IS FUEL. Sometimes, meals are gonna be boring. And I had to be okay with that. 

Understanding protein, carbs, and fats changed everything for me. Once you understand macros, you stop guessing. This will help you develop a healthier relationship with food, which is so key. 

Strength training with @the.royalcourt 3x week. And no, it will not make you “bulky”. It builds muscle, improves body composition, and helps you lose fat while keeping your shape. My back looks better than it ever has and my arms are finally making progress.

Cardio 5x a week. Sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 45, sometimes an hour. And even on lighter days, I move my body. A walk. A stretch. Pilates. Something.

And alcohol. This is the one 😂 I haven’t cut it out completely, but I significantly cut back. I even went 30 days without it last September and again for this year’s Daniel Fast and saw my body transform. I still enjoy it occasionally, but I’m much more intentional now. I don’t do a lot of sugary cocktails and try to save the lemon drops for special occasions lol.

So that’s it. 

Just discipline, consistency, and deciding this was a lifestyle, not a phase.

And honestly, the most drastic thing I did was go alcohol-free for two months (back in September and again in January). But outside of that, my approach was simple: 

Calorie deficit. Cardio. Strength training. That’s the magic combo.

Unless you have an underlying medical condition, this combo WILL work. Not maybe. Not possibly. This is the method that has worked forever.

And if I had to credit one thing for how my body looks right now, it would be strength training. It taught me the difference between weight loss and fat loss. It taught me that strong is sexy. It taught me that preserving muscle matters just as much as losing fat.

If you’re on a weight loss journey, just know that GLP-1s may be an option, but sustainable weight loss is absolutely possible without it.

This banana bread was sugar free, gluten free, and a 50 grams of protein in the loaf. How y’all think it turned out?
