Not the result they came for, but that’s how this sport keeps you honest.

Jack Driscoll and Ryan Douglas finished 11th in Doubles at HYROX Phoenix, and while it wasn’t the outcome they were chasing, it’s just part of the process at this level.

The work doesn’t stop when the podium slips away. You take the lessons, tighten the screws, and get back to it.

They’re already locked in on what’s next — smarter, hungrier, and ready to make a statement when it counts.

HYROX Vancouver 🇨🇦 | 56:17 Men’s Pro

2nd AG and Overall/190

First Solo race of the season and first since World Champs in June

Knew my fitness had come around in the past few weeks after getting back to full health/recoverability, but couldn’t have imagined I’d pop a time like this just yet

With this field of talent, the goal was to stay in touch through the first few stations before getting to work to reel a few guys in through the final 20min of the race

Runs felt easy early, the Push moved well before I dug in at the Pull and Burpees to stay up front

Even after a competitive middle of the race, I continued to use the runs to close the gap and didn’t fall off pace

Settled in at the Row and Farmers before saying to @jack.d_fitness on Run 7, “we’re looking good for a 55”

Based on my last two solo Wall Ball blow ups, the goal was to limit no reps by taking proper rest after each set. “Get to 70 reps in 2 controlled sets” was the mindset, and it all worked out despite a couple drops

Definitely still some time to shave here and at the Pull, but pumped to PR just about every station of the race, with 7sec/km shaved off my total run+rox pace

6 weeks to continue building for Phoenix with sights set on a sub 56min Solo to climb into the top 30 globally & to punch our ticket to E15 Doubles World Champs with @jack.d_fitness

Amped to see that the work is working

Friday Night Lights in Chicago

51:09 Pro Doubles with @jack.d_fitness

1st 25-29, 3rd Overall

Had big hopes for our first Pro Doubles race together and this battle didn’t disappoint

We put our noses in it early, leading the race through the sleds - a section of the race where we knew we’d have to press the gas to stay in fight with some big lads

Those long runs laps got grindy quickly, and the lights flickered during the final few runs, but we stayed in the fight and proved we belong with some of the top competitors in the sport

Figure we’ve got another ~30sec to shave to lock up a @hyroxworld Elite 15 spot, but if that roll down comes we may have some tough decisions to make

Back in the battle soon 🤘🏻

By kilometre #3, I knew the course & race day experience were going to be a roller coaster

The rolling hills and constant elevation change were a signal to proceed with caution and I’m glad I did, bottling up just enough juice to battle the Newton Hills & win back some time in the final downhill 8km

Feeling incredibly grateful for the hand we were dealt this weekend:

10/10 race conditions

A few hundred thousand of Boston’s finest to make the whole thing go smoothly

& above everything else, the health we tend to take for granted, to run this race to the fullest

What a city. What a race. What an experience.

We’ve accepted our invite to race Doubles at the third Elite 15 major of the 2025/2026 @hyroxworld season

Going down there with the sole goal of punching our ticket for E15 Doubles at HYROX World Champs in Stockholm this June

HYROX Phoenix | 56:25 Men’s Pro

7th/634 Overall, 2nd/120 AG

Coming into this Solo race, I didn’t carry specific expectation

Seconds before we took off, @stephen.pelkofer said to me “It’s 55 or 65 tonight right?”, and that was the reminder I needed to take a swing and to race without fear

Ran the first quarter of this race from the front before falling to second & battling to keep contact with @marcdean_ who bullied the Push and was floating around the course

Ran hard and competed consistently throughout the middle of the race and held a gap on the chasers until Lunges where I cramped up and down both Legs. It’s not a challenge that’s unique to me but one I gotta sort out

It definitely wasn’t a perfect finish - coughing up two spots and a few E15 qualifying points in the final minutes of the race - but, progress is being made. In hindsight I’m proud of the fight

Sitting 6th in the Americas and 35th globally after this race with an average time of 56:21

Thank you for the messages and support at the venue this weekend

Not a perfect weekend by any means but I’m grateful to be on this ride and hungry to get back to work for the Americas E15 Regional in DC next month

Had an opportunity to improve on our 51:09 performance in Chicago, and we’re glad we took it to drop a 50:12

57sec shaved in 9 days to climb from 24th in the World to 11th

• 3:28/km runs (down from 3:33/km)
• 1:39 burpees (down from 1:59)
• 2:10 lunges (down from 2:20)
• 3:13 wall balls (down from 3:23)

We won’t be taking the invite to the Melbourne E15 major but I’m liking where we sit as we head into the final few weeks of races before the Phoenix cutoff

@jack.d_fitness has done nothing but race for the last handful of weeks - can’t wait to see what we can put together on fresh legs next time we get out in January

Every bit of excitement felt this week was met with doubt

5+ weeks without intensity in training and ~3 weeks of no exercise whatsoever had me unsure of what I could handle, but when @lindsayybessegato offers to race twice within 3 hours, you shut up and give it everything you’ve got

After building through the first few runs and stations, I knew we had enough to let it fly and we did just that

This scratched the itch, and I promise you that we will be back and willing to fight for our life early and often the next time we toe the line

Glad to be back on track and fired up to see the way this sport’s growing in the city (& beyond)

The second counter-intuitive truth at the core of my development in HYROX: I’m heavier than I used to be, and performing better

Since HYROX World Champs, my bodyweight is up ~5 lbs (nearly 10lbs from March)

Previously, I kept loose limits on eating to stay lean. On paper, it made sense - higher power-to-weight, better endurance performance

This propelled me in pure running races like the marathon, but held me back in my preparation for HYROX

In reality, it looked like:
• restless sleep
• low energy on double days
• volatile mood
• inconsistent training output

In recent months, I’ve fueled more intuitively and with less restriction: carb-heavy before sessions, protein + carbs after, and stopped chasing leanness for its own sake

The result?

I’m showing up to the start line heavier, but:
• better fueled
• more consistent
• more aggressive in training
• recovering faster between sessions

I’m eating whole-food dominant meals without fail (often times from @thryve.to), and filling the notable gaps with @1stphorm protein supplements (Level-1 bars, Whey Isolates and Blends) and getting ahead of intra + post workout fueling with @1stphorm Ultra-Formance

+ it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a girlfriend who makes incredible homemade sour dough to get those carbs up @juliacmorriss 🐐

In HYROX, the cost of underfueling has proven far greater than the marginal gains of being lighter

Diving into three counter-intuitive truths that have been at the core of my development in HYROX

First off: Slower “threshold” workouts have made me faster at HYROX

For a long time, I thought my threshold workouts needed to match my lab-tested LT2 pace

After marathon prep, my LT2 tested at ~3:29/km

Naturally, I chased that pace hard in training, assuming it would translate directly to HYROX performance

It didn’t

Those “threshold” sessions often pushed me above LT2, created recovery debt, and limited how much quality work I could repeat week to week. Instead of building race-specific fitness, I was accumulating fatigue

As I gained more race data, I realized the pace I can sustain while still attacking the stations matters far more than a clean lab number

By pulling my threshold work back toward ~3:40/km:
• I’m training closer to my true HYROX race rhythm
• Heart rate is lower at the same paces
• Recovery between sessions is faster
• I’m stacking more high-quality work

Slower in training

More durable on race day

Sometimes restraint is the fastest path forward
