After much digging, we’ve managed to verify which viral images from Russia’s massive snowfall in the Kamchatka Region are real, and which aren’t. From TikTok AI creations to YouTube shorts, it’s a strange journey online right now for what should be a simple weather story. Yes, the region had a record-setting once-in-50-year snowfall. Yes, authorities said that it has reached as much as 12 feet high. No, kids were not sledding off the side of buildings. And no, the ‘Day After Tomorrow’ level of snowdrift didn’t happen. As we know on the internet, people will make up their own minds. But when the idea of ‘seeing is believing’ is thrown out the window, misinformation can (and obviously will) run rampant.
