Our little countryside escape | AD

We spent 3 nights at Spring Cottage in Stroud, booked through Sykes Cottages, and it was exactly the reset we needed.

Coming from city life, the peace, open countryside and slower pace felt like such a luxury. We spent our mornings enjoying breakfast outside with beautiful views, afternoons exploring Stroud’s independent shops and cafés, and evenings winding down with tapas, wine and cosy nights in.

Of course, Mim came too 🐾 The cottage is pet-friendly, which meant she could enjoy her own countryside adventure, exploring every corner and keeping watch from the windows.

Three days of fresh air, slow living and quality time together. Already dreaming of our next countryside escape.

Use code CHARLOTTE30 for £30 off any holiday with Sykes Cottages which is redeemable for all holidays taken in 2026.

If you’re looking for a city to visit this year, look no further I’ve got you covered! Here are 7 cities I think you should visit 🧳

📍 Save this post for a future trip

Brighton - Stroll through the Lanes, visit the amusement park on the Palace Pier and chill on the beach after a swim in the sea.

Canterbury - Go punting along the river stour, visit the cathedral and old town and walk along Westgate garden to see the beautiful flower displays.

Nottingham - The home of Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest. Make sure to visit the castle and finish off by having a drink at the Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem; the oldest inn in England.

Lincoln - Walk the medieval walls of Lincoln Castle and visit the Magna Carta Vault. Here you can see an original copy of the Magna Carta, only four have survived all this time so it’s a pretty special thing to see! Explore Steep Hill (yes this hill is aptly named). This hill is lined with independent shops, tea rooms and restaurants.

Bath - Visit the Roman Baths, relax at the Thermae Bath Spa and try a Sally Lunn bun.

Cambridge - Explore this city’s beautiful colleges or go punting along the river Cam this city really does have it all.

York - A beautiful city full of history and make sure to visit The Shambles which is thought to have inspired Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.

📸 First shot used is Bradford-on-Avon (unfortunately it’s not a city but it is a shot I really like) 😊

There’s a reason the Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful parts of England 🤍

With honey-coloured cottages, picturesque villages, rolling countryside and cosy country pubs, it’s one of my favourite places for a UK escape.

You could easily spend a few days exploring, wandering through the villages, stopping for afternoon tea and taking in some of the prettiest countryside in England.

If you happen to be in London in June, Trooping the Colour is one of those events that’s worth planning your day around. 🇬🇧

Held each year to celebrate the Sovereign’s official birthday, the ceremony brings together more than 1,000 soldiers, military bands, hundreds of horses, and a flypast over Buckingham Palace. It’s a tradition that dates back centuries, and seeing it in person feels like stepping into a piece of British history.

One of those only-in-London experiences that reminds you why this city never gets old.

Chelsea in Bloom is back and this year’s theme is literally out of this world 🌍

Every May, Chelsea transforms into a floral paradise alongside the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and this year is extra special. From giant floral planets and glowing constellations to dreamy moon inspired installations and mythical creatures made entirely from flowers, the whole neighbourhood is magical.

Over 100 floral displays are spread across Sloane Square, King’s Road, Pavilion Road and Duke of York Square, all inspired by space, stars and the universe. There are plenty of photo worthy moments, including a floating UFO installation, zodiac inspired displays, and a stunning floral globe celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.

The best part? It’s completely free to visit, making Chelsea in Bloom the perfect reason to spend a day wandering, exploring, and soaking up the floral magic 🌸
