You can’t convince me that this isn’t the perfect reading weather 🌧️📖🕯️

Summer storms are sweeter with a cozy beverage & a good book, so obviously I’m hunkered down with both right now 🖤🍵 hoping to knock out a good chunk of A Ballad of Falling Dragons today since it pairs so perfectly with the rainy weather we’re having ✨

I hope you’re having a lovely Saturday, let me know what you’re reading or drop some good summer recs for me to keep on my radar! 📖🥰🫶🏻

Believe it or not, crying so hard I can’t see the pages is actually my favorite way to read 🥲 (pls tell my I’m not the only one 🥹)

Finally finished The Good Parts by Evann Normandin yesterday, so if anyone needs me I’ll be laying on my bed staring at the ceiling for the foreseeable future ❤️‍🩹

I genuinely can’t believe this was a debut novel; it was so intentional, well written, well executed, & will linger in my bones for years to come 🥲 everything I could want from a book.

Just a girl who loves her matcha, her music, & her mellow mornings spent reading not so mellow books 📖🎧🍵🍓

Spent a slow monday morning sipping the perfect strawberry matcha & finishing Finding Grace (definitely recommend if you want something unique & gripping), before running errands & packing to go visit my irl book bestie at the beach 🐚 🌊

Currently trying to decide what books to pack & I have my eye on Spectacular Things, Next Time will be Our Turn, Habits of the Sea, Normal People, and The Lake Club — although knowing me I’ll probably bring all of them *just in case* 😂 lmk if you have any other good beach recs 🙏🏻

Tbh, I’ve been feeling a little creatively burnt out (or maybe like I’ve been putting too much creative pressure on myself), so I’m hoping a few days with my favorite Taurus and the ocean will both ground & reinspire me 🌊

I hope your week is off to an easy start & that the next book you pick up is 5🌟

2 months later and I still can’t stop thinking about this book 🥲💙

Into the Blue by Emma Brodie is a masterclass in tension, yearning, and moments so subtle that they’re almost nothing, yet leave you with a stomach full of butterflies 🤭🦋

This was more than a romance, it was a true love story 🥲 I’ve gotten really picky about this genre over the last years (simply bc I read so much of it growing up), but this blew all expectations out of the water. It wasn’t tropey, or cringey, or overdone. I felt like she trusted us as the audience to pick up what she put down without spelling it out explicitly to us. It was simply perfect 🥹

10/10 recommend!

(Also happy album release day to Miss Olivia Rodrigo. The moment I heard this song I thought about this book.)

Just know that if I ever tell you “oh my gosh I loved this book, it was 5 stars”, then I probably looked like this while reading it 🥲

What can I say, I’m a Pisces & I like my books a little tear stained by the time I’m done with them 😌🫶🏻

Tell me I’m not the only one 🫣

(Book in this video is Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy — my first ever 6🌟 read, and a story I still think about to do this day).

Current mood — fighting back tears while trying to read this beautiful, tender, heartbreaking book in a crowded cafe 😢🍵🍓📖

I’ve been forcing myself to slow down & microdose bits & pieces of The Good Parts throughout the day because I never want Rose & Landon’s story to end & I’m genuinely terrified for how this is going to wrap up ❤️‍🩹

I also have to say, that as someone who doesn’t usually prefer dual POV, I love the way it’s utilized in this book with Rose being our POV in the past & Landon being the POV in the present AND, dare I say, I actually feel more emotionally attached to Landon (even though I love rose too). I think he’s in a league of his own when it comes to male love interests for me 🥲💕

I’m nervous that this book is going to put me in a reading slump when I’m done with it, so if you have any slump buster recs pls share them with me 🙏🏻

Just a sensitive book girly looking for reader friends who also love their books a little tear stained 🥲

There’s nothing quite like a book that can break your heart into a million little pieces, and then oh so gently put them back together again, whole but forever changed ❤️‍🩹 so if you have any recs like that please send them my way 🥲

If you’re looking for books like this then I recommend The Bright Years by Sarah Damoff, Into the Blue by Emma Brodie, anything by Charlotte McConaghy (but especially migrations), & perhaps Broken Country 📖

My immediate raw, unfiltered thoughts on Girl’s Girl by Sonia Feldman after devouring in a single day this past weekend 📖🥲

One of my favorite niche genres is a good girlhood coming of age story set in the suburbs during the 90s/early 2000s. I love nostalgia, and books like these drop with it. Two of my favorite books in this genre are The Adults and Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance, and now I can add Girl’s Girl to my list of favs 🤭

In short, I loved this book. A phenomenal debut about girlhood, friendship, & first love that I’ll be recommending all summer long 🥹

A matcha a day keeps the book slump away 📖🍵🍓
(or something like that 🤭)

Lucky for me bc there’s no book slump in sight over here as I savor every single sentence that Sarah Damoff has weaved together to create the story that is The Burning Side 🥲 I love author’s who don’t waste a word or sentence in their books, and she is one of them.

This story physically hurts in the way that it writes straight to the heart of what it means to be an imperfect human trying desperately to pretend at perfection in a society that hasn’t always been transparent about the struggles of aging, marriage, relationships, & parenthood.

Reading this one at the cafes has been a struggle bc I find my eyes welling with tears at the turn of almost every page 🥲 no regrets though. Just hoping that I can fend off any slump that usually sits on the horizon of a 5🌟 read.

Now it’s over 80 degrees out so I’m going to pack up my books & head to the pool to keep cool 👙🧴

Hope you’re having the best week! Let me know how you’re summer reading is going 🌞

If a book ends with me speechless & the pages tear stained, then you can pretty much guarantee I’m going to rate it 5⭐️

Sarah Damoff rose the ranks to an auto buy author for me after I finished her second novel, The Burning Side 🥹 between her prose & her ability to capture imperfect families & characters that pull on my heartstrings, I’ll buy anything she writes 📖

Summer storms and readers are a match made in bookish heaven 🌧️📖🕯️

We finally got a reprieve from the heat wave with a handful of storms this week, which served as the perfect ambient backdrop to curl up with my tea & immerse myself in the most beautiful, gut wrenching book about an adolescent girl from a small Irish Catholic village in the 90s who’s realizing she’s in love with her best friend 🥲

Here’s to hoping for more storms like this one & more books that rip my heart into millions of little pieces and then oh so gently put it back together again ❤️‍🩹

5 books I’d add to your Summer TBR that AREN’T your classic romcom 📖🦢🌻

(Not bc we don’t love a fun, romantic beach read over here, simply bc sometimes we want a different type of book to scratch the summer reading itch 🤭)

The first 3 recs are books that I think capture summer in a way that’s lush, atmospheric, and at times a bit haunting. Junie especially is going to be perfect for the summerween cuties 🕯️ These are stories where the settings really shine and you’ll find yourself wishing you could transport inside of them 🦢

The last two books are one’s that drip with the nostalgia of sun drenched summers in the suburbs during the 90s/2000s when every emotion feels big & potent, friendship dynamics change on a dime, & the public swimming pool is the epicenter of your social life 👙💦

Let me know if you’ve read any of these or plan to read any 💕

Books mentioned:
✨Junie by Erin Crosby Eckstine
✨The Lake House by Kate Morton
✨The Sirens by Emilia Hart
✨Girl’s Girl by Sonia Feldman
✨Notes on your Sudden Disappearance by Alison Espach

Pretty sure a matcha, a good book, & a trip to Barry’s Bay would heal me right now 🍵📖🍓

Happy Sunday my beautiful book people 🤭
It’s been a busy weekend over here with very little reading time, but lots & lots of quality time with people I love 🥰

I’m still slowly working my way through Every Summer After and am determined to finish while we’re at the beach this week 🐚 🌊 currently packing up a nice box of books to bring along as we speak 🤭 lmk if you have any good beach read suggestions!

It’s hard to believe that May is over, but I feel good things for us in June 💕

(PS: my cafe replaced the cutie vintage wooden tables with cafeteria ones & my inner antique loving grandma has feelings about it 😒)

Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth left me speechless. 5 stars doesn’t do this book justice, I have to give it 6 🥲

After days of trying to find the words to capture just how perfect this book is, I finally realized it’s just not possible, but I still want to talk about it and help it find its way into more hands, so this is me doing my best to articulate my love for it 🥲

This is a brilliant, tender (sometimes painful), sapphic coming of age story that captures the highs & lows of girlhood & first love in a way that will leave you completely changed you by the time you finish it. 10/10 recommend for your tbr 🥹

Books that were worth every single tear spilt upon the page (in my own personal, humble opinion) 🥲

Let’s be honest, there are so many more that deserve a spot on this list (like anything by McConaghy actually, and The Bright Years), but these are the ones I could think of off the top of my head this morning 😂

5 *more* books for your summer tbr if you want something that’s not a beachy romcom 🐚

We love a light, summery beach read around here, but sometimes we’re craving something a little more atmospheric, emotional, & complex to sink our teeth into during the hazy, heat of summer 🌞

Books mentioned:

🫐Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall
🫐The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley

A summer storm, a good book, & a strong cup of tea would probably change my life right now 🥲📖🌧️

I’m already dreading the end of summer & the end of rich, dense, summer storm season. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a rainy autumn afternoon as well, however it just hits differently when the trees are full & green 🥲

Find me manifesting as many more of these afternoons as possible before summer slips away 🤞🏼

Tids & bits of my bookish camera roll 📸

I managed to bust my reading slump by binging Sandwich by Catherine Newman in a single sitting 🙏🏻 it’s always the book that’s been sitting on your shelf for months 🫣

Now I’m reading The Last Carolina Girl by Meagan Church & loving it. It kind of reminds me of Where the Crawdads Sing with its North Carolina setting and its rich, vivid imagery of the landscape 🐚

Hope you’ve had a gentle start to your week, and if not then I hope you have a gentle finish 💕

Don’t tell the books on my tbr that I secretly bought a new one & I’ve been taking it on cafe dates behind their backs after assuring them that they were 100% my priority this month 🤫📖🍵

In my defense, the book is good!! I picked up Strangers by Belle Burden after hearing people rave about how well written it is & how gripping the story of Burden’s marriage & divorce was, and I can honestly tell you they’re not exaggerating. My jaw has dropped multiple times at the recounting of her husband leaving her, bc this man really said “can I have a divorce & also can you make me a sandwich” 😳😡

It’s been a busy, chaotic week (I literally thought yesterday was Thursday until 7pm when I tried to watch the newest Survivor episode 🤦🏻‍♀️), so a quiet, solo matcha date was a must this morning 🍵🍓

I hope your own week is winding down nicely 🤍 I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening of takeout & finally starting Off Campus. What are you reading and watching right now??
