Repetition without repetition, periodized over time. Gotta fail to win.

High velocity throwing is all about putting yourself in a place that allows previously built momentum to pull you in and out of the positions you need at the right times.

Oftentimes, improving this has much more to do with letting it happen, rather than trying to make it happen. Many such cases.

“Before stepping into the ring, Cus D’Amato would repeat to Mike Tyson that you don’t exist, only the task exists. The moment you internalize what this really means, all self-doubt simply ceases to exist, because there’s no longer a self to doubt.
What’s left is total immersion in the task, which is what the flow state actually is, where there’s no “you” left to interfere, and action arises by itself, like second nature, faster than conscious thought, through the sheer genius of your unconscious mind.”

Everything is downstream of creating discrete, progressive, and interesting problems to solve.

By this time of the offseason, the majority of ground work has been laid as far as building the hardware. The back half of the offseason is where we lean into the software side, taking advantage of all the structural adaptations we’ve made.

More and more pro group PRs. Good training.

The reason the low level passive mobility guys never get more mobile is the same reason the dry rep mechanics guys never get better at throwing - there’s not enough stimulus or feedback to make an adaptation.

End range mobility work should force you into deeper positions for durations that are on the cusp of what you’re capable of.

Gotta exit homeostasis to provoke change. Many such cases, unfortunately.

“A thing is whole according to how free it is of inner contradictions. When it is at war with itself, and gives rise to forces which act to tear it down, it is unwhole. The more free it is of its own inner contradictions, the more whole and healthy and wholehearted it becomes... to purge ourselves of these illusions, to become free of all the artificial images of order which distort the nature that is in us, we must first learn a discipline which teaches us the true relationship between ourselves and our surroundings.
Then, once this discipline has done its work, and pricked the bubbles of illusion which we cling to now, we will be ready to give up the discipline, and act as nature does.

This is the timeless way of building: learning the discipline - and shedding it.”

Just like anything else in your training, your end range work needs to come with a large degree of difficulty and a large bandwidth for failure.

Mobility is largely neurological. If the problem isn’t challenging, there’s no reward for completing it. Fail more in your training.

Its become abundantly clear to me that a great training partner/training group is exponentially more valuable than any programming decision or piece of training equipment.

You should organize the majority of your training around this.

The easiest way to tell if someone isn’t worth their salt in this field is if they think about training as a series of exercises you do, rather than a delivery mechanism for adaptation.

The semantics of “the best 5 exercises for X” is really just shadows on the cave wall distracting you from what really matters- biological stress adaptation to imposed demands.

Even if there were “optimal exercises”, the real dawgs wouldn’t need them anyway.
