Socialpruf vs Metricool: Which Is Better for Analytics?

Metricool is an affordable social media management platform with strong scheduling and connected-account analytics. Socialpruf goes deeper on competitor history, public-account measurement, content discovery and analysis at scale. Here is the documented difference.

Socialpruf and Metricool compared for social media analytics and competitor tracking

Metricool and Socialpruf both promise social media analytics, but they start from opposite ends of the problem. One is built around the accounts you manage. The other is built around understanding the entire social media ecosystem.

Socialpruf is the more comprehensive analytics platform for competitor history, public-account measurement, content discovery and large-scale comparison. Metricool acts as a budget option for scheduling, publishing, inbox management and connected-account analytics.

We checked Metricool's published documentation against what Socialpruf does. Below you'll see how far back competitor history really goes, which networks each tool covers, and what changes once you track hundreds of accounts instead of a handful.

The short answer

Both products can analyze social performance, compare public accounts and generate client-ready reporting. Socialpruf goes further in four areas that determine how comprehensive that analysis can be:

  • Competitor history. Socialpruf loads the full available public post history when an account is added. Metricool normally provides competitor posts from the first day of the previous month, with up to 300 older posts synced on request where the platform API permits it.
  • Competitor coverage. Socialpruf tracks Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook and Snapchat in full, with basic LinkedIn stats. Metricool competitor analysis covers Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Twitch, but not TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat or Pinterest.
  • Comparable public data. Socialpruf measures your accounts, competitors, creators and partners from the public post on the same basis. Metricool connects to your accounts for private analytics but uses a narrower public-data layer for competitors, including a different engagement formula.
  • Scale and discovery. Socialpruf customers analyze sets of 150 to 200+ accounts and can search across more than 60 million indexed posts. Metricool works from the brands and competitor profiles configured in the account, with competitor limits set per network.

Metricool has the broader management toolkit. It schedules and publishes content, recommends posting times, supports approvals, manages messages and reports on paid media. Socialpruf does none of those things. The better product depends on whether your bottleneck is running your own channels or understanding the wider market.

Socialpruf and Metricool are built for different jobs

The longest feature list does not settle this comparison. Metricool has management tools inside it: a calendar, publisher, inbox, and ad analytics. Socialpruf does fewer housekeeping tasks and goes deeper on measurement, industry analysis and discovery.

Metricool is organized around a brand. Each brand contains one profile from each connected network or advertising platform. You connect profiles you manage, plan their content and read the private analytics their APIs provide. Public competitors sit alongside that connected-account workflow as a useful reference layer.

Socialpruf is organized around the public social graph: accounts, posts, creators, partners, competitors, brands and the relationships between them. An account does not become more measurable because you own it or less measurable because somebody else does. The same collection method, history and metrics apply across the set.

That architectural difference matters when the analysis expands. A connected-account product is strongest when you need owner-only figures such as ad spend or story performance. A public-data product is strongest when you need a fair comparison across accounts you do not control.

Which platform offers better social media analytics?

Metricool's owned-account analytics are broad. It supports organic data across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profile and YouTube, with paid fields on supported ad platforms. Connect an account and Metricool can show the private metrics its network API returns, from reach and impressions to audience data and advertising results.

That makes Metricool a good answer to how did our connected accounts perform? It becomes less complete when the subject is a competitor, creator or partner.

Metricool says directly that competitor data comes through the platforms' APIs and is organic only. Reach is not publicly available through those APIs, so competitor engagement uses average interactions divided by followers. Owned-account engagement normally uses reach or impressions. The two rows in the same analysis can therefore be calculated on different denominators unless you add your own account as a competitor and deliberately use the public version.

Socialpruf starts with comparability. Your account and a competitor's account are both read from the public post. A creator, media partner and brand are treated the same way too. Views, likes, comments, shares, saves and other displayed metrics can be compared without one side receiving a private-data advantage. Custom KPIs, including a team's own earned media value formula, can then be applied across the entire set.

The trade is explicit. If you need owner-only watch time or ad spend, Metricool has the better data because the account is connected. If you need to benchmark fifty public accounts fairly, trace every number to a post and keep the same measurement rules across the market, Socialpruf is the more comprehensive analytics system.

Which is better for competitor analysis?

Metricool gives a small team a genuine competitor product, not a decorative dashboard. You can compare profiles, customize the columns in the table, inspect their posts, sort by a selected metric and download the result as CSV. Competitors do not have to grant permission.

The boundaries are specific. Metricool's current competitor list covers Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Twitch. It does not include TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat or Pinterest. X requires a paid plan and add-on. YouTube is limited to ten competitors on paid plans rather than 100. Instagram accepts professional accounts, not every public profile, and requires your own Instagram account to be connected through Facebook first.

For plenty of teams, those boundaries are acceptable. If a category lives on Instagram and YouTube and the set is stable, Metricool can put useful public benchmarks beside the team's owned analytics.

They become harder to accept when short-form video or B2B content is central to the market. Socialpruf covers Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook and Snapchat in full, with basic LinkedIn statistics, so the competitive set does not lose a network simply because its public API does not expose a competitor endpoint. Any supported public account can be tracked without asking its owner or connecting one of your own accounts first.

The difference also extends beyond profiles already on a list. Metricool analyzes the connected brands and competitors you configure. Socialpruf's Discover searches more than 60 million indexed posts by subject, product, format or mention, with live retrieval for content that is not yet in the index. That lets a team find the creator it did not know to track, the partnership it did not know had launched or the breakout post from outside its predefined competitive set.

For a known list of eligible competitors, Metricool is a useful part of a management suite. For competitive intelligence across a moving category, Socialpruf is built around the larger question.

Historical data and competitor backfill

This is the most important distinction in the comparison because Metricool uses the word “history” for two different datasets.

Paid Metricool plans advertise unlimited analytics history. That claim applies to connected accounts and to data Metricool has available for them. It does not mean a newly added competitor arrives with its complete historical record.

Metricool's competitor documentation says that, once a competitor is connected, its posts are available from the first day of the previous month. A paid customer can ask support to sync up to 300 older posts, subject to what the relevant platform API makes available. If another Metricool user previously added the same account, more stored history may already exist, but it is not guaranteed.

Follower and like history is stricter. Metricool states that these figures can only be monitored from the moment of connection and do not include the period before the competitor was added. On X, the product imports the last 100 posts or the last 30 days, whichever limit is reached first; anything earlier cannot be retrieved.

MetricoolPrevious month by default; up to 300 older posts on request
SocialprufEvery post since the first
Competitor history when an account is added today: a recent API window against the full available public record.

Socialpruf reads and stores the public record directly. Add an account today and its available posts can be analyzed from its earliest post, without a 300-post backfill ceiling or a different window for each network. A video that was published before you became a customer still belongs in the analysis, and its current displayed performance still matters.

That changes what the tool can answer. If a competitor launched a product six months ago, a connection-date follower series cannot reconstruct the audience change around it. If a publisher posts fifteen times a day, 300 posts cover less than three weeks. If an old Reel becomes relevant again, a previous-month window misses it entirely. Socialpruf is designed for those retrospective questions as well as the current reporting cycle.

Which platform scales better?

Metricool scales as a management platform by adding brands. Each brand holds the social profiles a team owns or manages, and higher plans add more brands, collaborators, approvals, report customization and integrations. That is a sensible model for an agency scheduling content for a defined client roster.

Competitor analysis scales differently. Metricool allows up to 100 competitors per supported social network on paid plans, except YouTube at ten. Those are generous limits for an inexpensive suite, but each network remains a separate list with separate eligibility and history rules. The analysis is still bounded by the competitors the user already knows to add.

Socialpruf scales around the number of public accounts a team needs to understand. Customers run competitive landscapes of 150 to 200+ accounts. On3 tracks more than 150 accounts across over a million posts. Vice Media measures more than 200 accounts and 2.8 million posts across its portfolio. Accounts can be organized into brands and folders, filtered across platforms and compared using the same KPIs.

Scale is not only the maximum number in a settings screen. It is whether the 151st account has the same history as the first, whether a newly discovered creator can be added without waiting months for data, and whether the analyst can move from a category-wide ranking to the post behind the number. This is where Socialpruf's direct collection and content index make the difference.

Reporting: live intelligence or scheduled deliverables?

Metricool's reporting is one of its strongest features. Paid plans can generate PDF and PowerPoint reports, add a logo and schedule a monthly PDF by email. Manually generated reports receive a public link that does not require the recipient to sign in. Advanced plans add custom report templates and a Looker Studio connector, while Metricool Studio can build and share AI-generated analytical views.

Those are good deliverables. A PowerPoint can be edited before a meeting, a PDF can be attached to an invoice, and an automated monthly email asks nothing of the recipient.

Socialpruf reporting is built around a live URL. A report can be fixed to the posts selected when it was made or rolling, so a relative period such as “last 30 days” continues to move forward. The sender can choose the metrics, filters and posts shown, apply agency branding and share it without rebuilding a deck. PDF and CSV remain available when a static file is the required format.

The practical difference appears after the report is sent. Metricool's standard PDF link opens the file generated for that reporting run. A Socialpruf live report keeps reflecting the underlying post data, so a video that continues gaining views does not remain frozen at the number it had on export day.

Neither format is universally better. Static exports are useful records. Live reports are more useful when the content is still moving or the same client view is opened repeatedly. Socialpruf includes both, but makes the live analytical view the center of the reporting workflow.

Scheduling is Metricool's biggest advantage

Metricool has a real publishing product. Its calendar can schedule content across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile. Teams can save drafts, import a CSV, duplicate content across brands, preview posts, use network-specific options and schedule months or years ahead. Advanced and Custom plans add approval workflows.

It also recommends posting times on supported networks, provides an inbox for comments and messages, and connects publishing activity to owned-account analytics. For a social manager who spends the day planning next week's content and clearing replies, these are not side features. They are the job.

Socialpruf does not schedule, publish or manage an inbox. It will tell you which content, account, creator or competitor performed; it will not send the next post. If scheduling is mandatory and the analytics requirement is straightforward, Metricool is likely the better single subscription.

Some teams use both. Metricool handles the operational calendar and private metrics for accounts they own; Socialpruf supplies the competitive history, public benchmarking, creator measurement and live reporting layer. They overlap, but they do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Where Socialpruf is stronger

Competitor history. A newly added account arrives with its available public post record rather than a recent window and an API-dependent backfill request.

Coverage of the competitive landscape. TikTok, LinkedIn and Snapchat can remain part of the picture, while every supported public account is measured without connection requirements.

Comparable analytics. Owned accounts, competitors, creators and partners use the same public metrics and collection schedule. A private reach denominator is not silently compared with a public follower denominator.

Large-set analysis. Socialpruf is designed for competitive groups running into the hundreds of accounts and millions of posts, with folders, filters, rankings and head-to-head comparisons.

Discovery beyond a saved list. Search across 60M+ posts to find content, mentions, creators and emerging accounts before deciding what belongs in the permanent tracking set.

Live reporting. Reports can remain current after they are shared, with fixed and rolling scopes, custom KPIs and white-label presentation.

Programmatic access. The Socialpruf API and MCP server are included on every plan. Metricool's MCP is also available on every plan, but its API requires Advanced or Custom.

Where Metricool is stronger

Scheduling and publishing. Metricool plans, previews, schedules and publishes content across the major networks. Socialpruf does not publish.

Private owned-account metrics. Connecting profiles gives Metricool the owner-only reach, story data and other API fields that are not publicly visible. Socialpruf cannot provide a metric the platform never displays.

Paid-media analytics. Metricool brings supported organic and paid results into the same product and also covers major ad platforms. Socialpruf focuses on organic social.

Inbox and day-to-day management. Messages, comments, calendars and approvals make Metricool a working environment for the people operating a channel, not only analyzing it.

Slide-ready exports. Metricool exports directly to PowerPoint as well as PDF and can schedule monthly reports by email. Socialpruf offers PDF and CSV, but not PPT.

Affordability. Metricool has a permanent free plan and inexpensive paid plans. It is the easier product to justify when budget is the binding constraint and its competitor coverage is enough.

Is Socialpruf the best Metricool alternative?

Socialpruf is the best Metricool alternative when the reason for switching is analytics: incomplete competitor history, missing competitor networks, a competitive set that has outgrown a fixed list, or reporting that needs to cover public accounts beyond the ones your team owns.

It is not a direct replacement for Metricool's scheduler, inbox or paid-media tooling. If those are the features you use every day, moving to Socialpruf alone would remove important parts of the workflow.

The useful definition of “alternative” is not a product with the same navigation and every box checked. It is a product that solves the job causing the search. For social teams searching for a Metricool alternative because they need deeper competitive intelligence, longer public history, creator and partner measurement, or live cross-account reporting, Socialpruf is the stronger fit.

Which should you choose?

Choose Metricool if:

  • Scheduling, publishing and inbox management are part of the daily job.
  • Most of the analysis concerns accounts you own and can connect.
  • Private reach, audience and paid-media data matter more than complete public competitor history.
  • Its supported competitor networks cover your category.
  • You need an affordable all-in-one product with PDF and PowerPoint reporting.

Choose Socialpruf if:

  • Analytics and competitive intelligence are the reason you are buying.
  • You need competitor posts from before the account was added.
  • Your market spans networks missing from Metricool's competitor product.
  • You analyze large sets of brands, creators or partners together.
  • You need every account measured on the same public-data basis.
  • Search, live reporting, custom KPIs, API access or MCP analysis are central to the workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Is Socialpruf a Metricool alternative?

Yes, when analytics, competitor intelligence and reporting are the main requirements. Socialpruf provides deeper public-account history, broader competitor coverage, large-set analysis, content discovery and live reporting. It does not replace Metricool's scheduling, inbox or paid-media features.

Which is better for analytics, Socialpruf or Metricool?

Socialpruf is more comprehensive for public social analytics across owned accounts, competitors, creators and partners. Metricool is stronger for private analytics on connected accounts, particularly when those analytics need to sit beside scheduling, inbox and advertising data.

Which is better for competitor analysis?

Socialpruf is stronger for competitor analysis because it loads the full available public post history, covers a broader set of strategically important competitor networks and is designed for landscapes containing hundreds of accounts. Metricool provides useful competitor tables and post analysis inside a less expensive management suite, but its history, networks and eligibility depend on the platform APIs.

Which competitor networks does Metricool support?

Metricool currently supports Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Twitch for competitor analysis. It does not list TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat or Pinterest. X requires a paid plan and add-on, while paid YouTube competitor tracking is capped at ten accounts.

How far back does Metricool competitor data go?

Metricool says competitor posts are normally available from the first day of the previous month. Paid customers can request up to 300 older posts where the network API allows it, and more data may exist if another user previously tracked the same account. Competitor follower and like history starts when the account is connected. On X, only the last 100 posts or 30 days can be imported.

How many competitors can Metricool track?

The Free plan allows up to five competitor accounts per supported network. Paid plans allow up to 100 per network, except YouTube, which is capped at ten. Network eligibility and add-on requirements still apply.

Does Socialpruf offer social media scheduling?

No. Socialpruf is an analytics, competitive intelligence, discovery and reporting platform. Metricool is the better choice if one product must schedule and publish content. Teams that need both operational management and deeper market analytics can use Metricool and Socialpruf together.

Which platform is better for agencies?

It depends on the agency's service. Metricool is better suited to agencies that schedule content and manage messages. Socialpruf is better suited to agencies selling strategy, competitive intelligence, creator measurement and live white-label reporting across large groups of public accounts.

Do Socialpruf and Metricool offer an API?

Yes. Socialpruf includes its API on every plan. The Metricool API is available on Advanced and Custom plans and can export data or automate publishing through external tools.

Do Socialpruf and Metricool offer MCP access?

Yes. Both offer MCP access on every plan. Socialpruf's MCP is focused on analytics, comparison, visualization and reporting. Metricool's MCP can work with connected analytics and configured competitors as well as create, edit and schedule posts.

Can I move from Metricool to Socialpruf?

Yes. Add the public account handles you currently analyze in Metricool and Socialpruf will retrieve their available public post history. You do not have to wait for a new competitor dataset to accumulate from the migration date.
