Socialpruf is a social media analytics platform for measuring owned accounts, competitors, creators and partners across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Snapchat. It reads public posts directly instead of pulling a standardized feed through each platform's API, so history runs back to an account's first post, nothing gets capped per network, and there's no account connection to break.
Socialinsider is a well-built benchmarking suite, which includes industry-average benchmarks, content pillars with auto-tagging, PPTX exports and scheduled autoreports features. If you're running a defined set of up to 40 profiles across six networks and a year of history answers your questions, it does that job well.
Where the two products differ comes down almost entirely to one decision: where the data comes from. Socialinsider pulls data through the social platforms' APIs. Socialpruf reads the public post. The history windows, the estimated follower curves, the profile caps and the missing network all trace back to that, on both sides.
The short version
Socialpruf and Socialinsider both benchmark public social performance, but they're built for different workflows. Socialinsider is a benchmarking and reporting suite for a defined set of up to 40 profiles, with 3 to 12 months of post history. Socialpruf is built for broader social intelligence: public accounts across seven platforms, history back to the first post, and search across 60M+ posts.
- First-post history. Analyze an account's content from its earliest available post. Socialinsider plans include 3, 6 or 12 months of post metrics.
- 200+ accounts. Compare more than 200 accounts in a single competitive set. Socialinsider plans include 20, 30 or 40 profiles, your own and competitors combined.
- 7 platforms. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Facebook and Snapchat. Socialinsider covers six. Snapchat isn't one of them.
- 60M+ posts. Search across 60M+ indexed posts, with live retrieval for content not yet indexed. Socialinsider searches within the profiles you track.

Two notes on method. Every Socialinsider cell in the table below links to Socialinsider's own pricing page or help center wherever it publishes the detail, checked in September 2026, and where a limit varies by plan, we've used the most generous published tier throughout. At Socialpruf we don't gate features by tier, plans scale by the amount of social accounts you need.

Where the data comes from
Socialinsider collects data through the social platforms' APIs. That's the standard approach in this category: less infrastructure to run, and if a number is missing, the API didn't provide it. You see the fields the API exposes, back as far as your plan's 3, 6 or 12 months, on the six networks that offer a public API.
The cost is that your analytics inherit every restriction the API has. Follower counts start the day a profile is added and are estimated for earlier dates. X limits how many posts can be retrieved. Reach is estimated on Facebook and Instagram, and saves, shares and Stories are only available for accounts you connect.
Socialpruf reads the public post the way anyone visiting the page sees it, then stores and maintains that record itself. So we hold the whole public record, on every account, at the same depth, and we don't inherit the API's limitations either. A post's history is there regardless of when you started tracking the account. What we don't have is anything that was never public: owner-only numbers like story views and watch time, which no API will reveal about competitors either.

History
This is the biggest practical gap between the two products. Socialinsider's plans include 3, 6 or 12 months of historical post metrics, so the deepest published window covers one year. Last year's launch, the season before this one, or the campaign a competitor ran before you started paying attention are outside it.
Follower history is stricter still. Socialinsider's help center is clear that "it's typically impossible to access follower data from before you started using our tool", so it fills the gap with an estimate that is replaced by real numbers only as time passes. That is an honest way to draw a growth curve, and it's also a curve that isn't measured.
Socialpruf has no backfill window and no per-network post cap. Every public post on a tracked account is collected and kept, however often that account posts. On3 tracks 150+ competitor accounts across more than a million posts. Vice Media runs separate competitor sets per property totaling over 2.8 million posts across 200+ accounts. In both cases the posts from the early years are still there and still updating.
Freshness
Socialinsider's analytics are "updated every 6 hours", which it describes as near real-time, and the app shows when each profile was last refreshed and when the next update is due. For a weekly report that's plenty.
It's less than plenty when something is moving. With a six-hour refresh cycle, a Reel that breaks out after the last update may not be reflected until the next scheduled refresh, and two benchmarks pulled the same afternoon can disagree by a whole cycle. Socialpruf refreshes a post hourly for its first week, when the numbers are moving fastest, and daily after that, on competitor accounts and your own alike, so the two sides of a comparison were read at the same time.
Where Socialinsider is the better tool
What Socialinsider does that we don't.
Benchmarks and pillars. Socialinsider's Benchmarks add an industry-average row beside your competitor set, and Content Pillars tag posts into themes automatically, with AI-written key takeaways in reports. Socialpruf benchmarks against the accounts you track and lets you build your own KPIs, but it doesn't ship an industry average or an in-app AI narrator.
Private metrics on your own accounts. Connect your accounts to Socialinsider and you get the owner-only layer: saves, shares and Stories, audience insights, and on Facebook the paid and organic split, with boosted-post detection on competitor pages. Socialpruf is focused on public social data, so it doesn't replace those private account insights.
Slide-ready exports and autoreports. Every plan includes unlimited PDF, PPTX and CSV exports, and Autoreports deliver them daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. Socialpruf doesn't export to PPTX.
Reporting
Socialinsider reports are exports and autoreports. Every plan includes unlimited exports as PDF, PPTX, XLS or CSV, and Autoreports deliver them daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. It's a well-built version of the standard model, and for plenty of teams a scheduled PDF is exactly what the client asked for.
Socialpruf reports are live URLs (PDFs and CSVs can be downloaded as well). The report you sent in March shows March's data as it stands today, not as it stood the morning you exported it, and you can see when it was opened and by whom. TickPick runs a high-volume organic program on roughly an hour of reporting work a week on that basis.

Which is better comes down to what your stakeholders want to receive. If reporting has to be archived, versioned or dropped into a deck, an export is the honest answer, and Socialinsider's PPTX export is something Socialpruf doesn't offer.
API
Socialinsider has one, and it's priced sensibly: a $100 a month add-on on any plan, with no rate limit, because pricing is per handle rather than per call. What it returns is bounded by the same plan window as the app, up to 12 months of history, across the six networks it covers.
The Socialpruf API is part of the product on every plan, with every post since the account's first. It's how On3 pulls its competitive data into its own systems.
Which should you pick?
Choose Socialinsider if:
- Your competitive set is stable, fits inside 40 profiles, and 12 months of history is enough.
- You want industry-average benchmarks, content pillars and AI-written takeaways inside the reporting tool.
- You need PPTX exports and scheduled autoreports, and published pricing with a 14-day free trial.
Choose Socialpruf if:
- Your competitive set runs to dozens or hundreds of accounts, or you don't know all of them yet.
- You need history that predates your signup date, for past seasons, launches and campaigns.
- Snapchat is part of the picture, or short-form video makes a six-hour refresh and a 12-month window a problem.
- You want to search what's working across social, and you need an API included on every plan.
"We recently expanded our investment so we can run competitive analysis across our entire brand portfolio and multiple social platforms, giving us a breadth of competitive intelligence we haven't been able to replicate with our other analytics tools."

The broader field is covered in our ranking of the best social media analytics tools, and Rival IQ, the other tool we're compared to most, gets the same treatment in Socialpruf vs Rival IQ. If you've already picked and just want the workflow, start with how to actually track your competitors' social media accounts.
Frequently asked questions
Is Socialpruf a Socialinsider alternative?
For competitor benchmarking, yes. Both track public competitor profiles without anyone connecting. Socialpruf goes further on history, set size, freshness and discovery, while Socialinsider adds industry-average benchmarks, content pillars, AI-written takeaways and slide-ready exports.
How far back does each tool's data go?
Socialinsider's plans include 3, 6 or 12 months of historical post metrics, and follower counts start the day a profile is added, with earlier dates estimated. Socialpruf stores every public post back to each account's first one, with no cap and no retention window.
How many competitors can each tool track?
Socialinsider plans include 20, 30 or 40 social profiles, counting your own and competitors together, with extra profiles at $6 a month and 10 to 20 replacements a month. Socialpruf has no cap. Customers run competitor sets of 150 to 200+ accounts.
How often does each tool refresh?
Socialinsider updates analytics every 6 hours. Socialpruf refreshes a post hourly for its first week and daily after that, for as long as the post exists, on your accounts and competitors alike.
Do competitors need to connect their accounts in either tool?
No. Both read public data. Socialinsider connects your own accounts to unlock saves, shares, Stories and audience insights, and supports business profiles only. Socialpruf measures you on the same public data it uses for everyone else.
Which platforms does each tool cover?
Socialpruf tracks Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook and Snapchat in full, with basic LinkedIn stats. Socialinsider covers TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and YouTube. It doesn't cover Snapchat.
Does Socialinsider have social listening?
No. Socialinsider's own comparison with Rival IQ says it has no built-in social listening. Socialpruf's Discover finds posts that tag or mention a brand across 60M+ posts, with the numbers attached.
Does Socialpruf have an API?
Yes, included on every plan, along with an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini and CSV export. Socialinsider sells API access as a $100 a month add-on with no rate limit and up to 12 months of history, and Looker Studio access as a separate $100 a month add-on.
Can I migrate from Socialinsider to Socialpruf?
There's nothing to migrate. Paste the handles from your Socialinsider project and Socialpruf loads each account with its full public history, so your first report already covers more than the last 12 months.
