You wouldn’t question my lifestyle if you felt the momentum i’m blessed to have at the moment. I know from experience that it can shift QUICKLY and working with the wind at your back is not something to take for granted.

Took the L.
.
This isn’t a highlight reel. It’s not an interpretation of my dream day. It’s not even every day. It’s not the way my days looked 10 years ago and it’s not how my day will look 10 years from now.
.
It’s a season - and it’s what’s required for our family at the moment.
.
The same people hating in the comments now are the same people who will say “must be nice” when I have complete control over my time.
.
Anyways, rooting for the parents out there giving it their all.

Incredibly grateful to spend this morning with like minded people who have been following my journey here. 2 hrs of talking shop with complete strangers flew by, which really says it all. Looking forward to more of these meet ups in the next few weeks. Submit your application in my bio if you’re interested *Atlanta only, spots limited*

Winners lose more than losers ever will.
.
Last night I sent a wire for $30,000 to settle a debt that has been eating at me for a while now.
.
You see, the first time I tried working for myself I willed my way through 80 hr weeks to experience a (relatively small) taste of success.
.
But for a 20 something year old, I was proud of the milestone and the sheer fact that I learned a skill that could generate revenue from nothing. Maybe even more proud that I stuck with something after being dissatisfied in all my prior jobs.
.
Coming off a good year, I had the pleasure of experiencing a predicament that seemingly all first time self employed/entrepreneurs learn the painful way…paying Uncle Sam.
.
For context, I was working on 100% commission in commercial real estate brokerage and the deals were large payouts ($100K+ per) but often spread out which made for a constant cash flow roller coaster.
.
It’s April, taxes are due and I know I owe about 100K. Cash is tight but I had about $300,000 worth of commission tied up in escrow at the time for deals scheduled to close in ~60 days.
.
My choices were (1) play it safe - cut a check to the government for the full $100,000 of taxes, walk away from the potential $300,000 closing in 60 days and go back to a corporate job or (2) roll the dice - use the $100,000 for living expenses while I see if these deals close and if can stir up some business along the way.
.
F**k it - let’s roll the dice 🤡
.
Shortly after that the Fed raised interest rates from near zero to 4.5% effectively freezing the market and killing every deal in sight.
.
I took the gamble and lost….and the government didn’t care lol.
.
Lucky for me, Uncle Sam has a payment program (with interest mind you).
.
Last night I closed out that chapter of my story for good - a final payment of $30,000 👋
.
But I feel a little bit lighter now.
.
That balance was a constant reminder of my failure.
.
But now it serves me in a positive way…that I survived my lowest point and worked my way back up to where I want to be.
.
Keep fighting for the life you want to build - even if it means 4 am alarms.
.
I’m rooting for ya⚡️

Balance with a young family is tricky. There’s no right or wrong, just what’s right for your family.
.
Luckily, I’m home 5/7 days of the week. I still feel guilty on days like this where I don’t see my kids but the reality is I would feel significantly worse (all the time) if I couldn’t provide for my family the way I wanted to, pursue the goals that make me excited to wake up everyday or look back on my life with regret because I didn’t build anything while I had the energy, confidence and momentum that you get in your 30s (I really don’t take these for granted). It just so happens that this prime time (ex. at 32 yrs old: 10 years of working experience, multiple roles, exposure to different companies/systems, high energy, higher risk tolerance, still tech savvy, still somewhat immersed in what’s culturally relevant to spot opportunities to capitalize on) often coincides with the timing of starting a family. And as we often have to remind ourselves, those early kid years are irreplaceable.
.
Like I said, it’s tricky - keep doing your best.
