Spend an evening in the life of working at an investment bank! Some nights are better than others, but this basically describes the last five years of my life! Balancing content creation isn’t easy, but it makes me happy and is worth it!

Being good at your job is not what gets you ahead. The people who rise are the ones who understand office politics and play it without ever looking like they are playing.

Here is what they actually do that nobody talks about:

1️⃣ They never let people see them stressed.

Staying calm when something goes wrong is rare, and people read it as control. The one who keeps their composure looks more senior than the one with the better point.

2️⃣ They make their boss look good, on purpose.

Your manager decides who gets the credit. Make sure they are never caught off guard and always look prepared in front of their own boss. Help the person above you win and they pull you up with them.

3️⃣ They build relationships with the people whose opinions matter.

The org chart tells you who has the title. It does not tell you whose opinion actually moves decisions. Build those relationships before you ever need anything.

4️⃣ They are friendly, but keep their personal life private.

Being approachable is not the same as being available for every vent session and every bit of drama. The smartest people guard that line.

5️⃣ They stay out of the gossip.

They know exactly what is going on, but they are never the source of it. The people trusted with real information are the ones who can keep their mouth shut.

The hardest worker rarely wins. The one who understands how the room actually works does.

The sooner you learn that, the faster you move!

CRAZY SHIT I did to survive working 120+ hour weeks in investment banking:

1. Took my work phone with me into the shower — answering urgent emails non-stop, even at 4am.

2. 3am ice-cold showers for pure shock therapy to jolt myself awake.

3. Blasted true crime podcasts to scare the sleep away; fear was my caffeine.

4. Skipped taking anxiety meds — the pressure from senior bankers and adrenaline kept me wired 24/7.

5. Snuck 20-min naps on my desk, under my desk, in bathroom stalls while waiting for comments.

6. Slept in my work clothes — no time for pajamas and needed any extra sleep.

7. Ate purely Uber Eats/DoorDash for every meal — if I even had time to eat.

8. Set 20+ alarms because when you crash, you’ll sleep through literally everything!

Juggling both a corporate job and content can feel overwhelming some days, so I built a full website with @lovable.dev that tracks my schedule, content ideas, and deadlines. It’s so easy to use, it only took me minutes to build. Now I can actually enjoy my life instead of overthinking it. 💕 #ad #lovablepartner

Part 2 of the New Year refresher on basic banking etiquette you should know on Wall Street, so you can stay ahead of your peers!

1. Check formatting and page numbers. Professional presentation matters.

2. Avoid slang or emojis in emails. Keep tone polished and professional at all times.

3. Respond promptly. Even a brief “confirming receipt” acknowledgment shows reliability. Try to respond within 20 minutes for every email.

4. When emailing a client externally, as a junior banker you should always double check with senior members of your team before replying. Often more senior members will reply directly to c-suite executives rather than analysts.

5. Always join calls early and mute when not speaking. Be ready before senior bankers or clients log in, and prevent background noise during meetings (also be sure you know whether or not you should be on camera if the meeting is a Zoom).

6. Take notes on calls always and circulate to the full team right after.

7. Do your homework before asking for help. It’s okay to ask questions, but make sure you have asked other team members, googled and tried yourself, or looked around for a precedent before asking for help on something you could have solved by yourself (resourcefulness is key!).

8. Remember to breathe and stay calm under pressure. Maintain composure and positive attitude during long working hours will make you have a lasting positive impression on your peers.

Let’s step into the New Year with a refresher on basic banking etiquette on Wall Street, so you can stay ahead of your peers!

1. Under promise & over deliver. Always be clear about conflicting priorities and use upfront communication to your advantage!

2. Use “we,” not “I.” You should always reflect on the team’s efforts! For example, when sending revised materials around say “we incorporated your feedback” vs. “I worked through your feedback.” Albeit small, this verbiage ensures the entire deal team is bought in.

3. When sending an email to your entire deal team, always include emails in the “To:” line in order of seniority; the most senior MD should be the first email included, followed by Directors, VPs, Associates, and so on. This applies cross-teams, if you’re emailing partners in another group, always include their team in order of seniority as well.

4. Keep emails concise. Say what’s needed, clearly and efficiently — no unnecessary fluff. If ever addressing multiple pieces of information, use bullets.

5. When sending materials, always send PDFs (unless specifically requested otherwise by a senior banker). Avoid sharing editable Excel or PowerPoint files.

6. Always “version up” when working on materials by incorporating the latest version number in the title of the PowerPoint and/or Excel file (i.e. [Materials] v6 → [Materials] v7), and finalize materials with “vF.” Only circulate final versions externally (leave out the version number or any internal naming).

7. Spell check (using F7 key) and always proofread before sending any materials internally or externally to clients. Small mistakes create big impressions.

8. Before responding to a client or senior bankers in another group, always align with your Associate/VP before doing so (or the entire deal team when appropriate). Senior bankers do not want to have to do damage control!

The biggest red flags at work aren’t loud. They’re quiet. They’re normalized.

Most people don’t catch them until years disappear. No promotion means no progression.

Here are 8 signs your company is using you, not growing you:

1️⃣ You do the work. They make the decisions. If they trust you to deliver but never to decide, that’s not partnership. It’s control disguised as praise.

2️⃣ You get looped in after decisions, not before. “Can you help roll this out?” That’s cleanup, not collaboration. Real growth means being in the room before direction is set.

3️⃣ They hire outside talent for jobs you’ve already mastered. You train new hires to do the work you’ve been doing. When they fill those roles externally, it’s a sign you’re trusted to execute, not to advance.

4️⃣ Praise comes easy. Promotion comes slow. “You’re doing great” means nothing without a title, a raise, or a timeline. Compliments without commitments are retention tactics.

5️⃣ Your role keeps expanding, but your title and pay don’t. More responsibility without recognition isn’t growth. It’s free labor with a polite smile.

6️⃣ You’re over-mentored but under-sponsored. Plenty of advice. Zero advocacy. Mentorship teaches you. Sponsorship elevates you. One without the other keeps you stuck.

7️⃣ They use your adaptability against you. You’re “flexible,” so they keep changing your role. You’re “reliable,” so every extra project lands on your desk. Those compliments are how they justify burnout.

8️⃣ You’re told to be patient with no milestones attached. Patience without a plan is stalling.

The best companies stretch people with purpose.

If yours just stretches your workload, it’s not growth. It’s use.
