Day one at @desaekobali and it already feels like the kind of place you accidentally stay longer than planned. This is Munduk, way up in the jungle, far from the version of Bali most people know. No schedule pulling you in ten directions. No noise fighting for your attention. Just space, quiet, and a rhythm that resets you without asking permission. What @mat.iu_ has built here is rare. It’s not trying to be a destination everyone understands instantly. It’s built for people who feel the difference the moment they arrive. You don’t come here to escape your life. You come here to reconnect with it. Myself and @jamesactivee will be here all week filming, taking our time, letting the place lead the story instead of forcing one. I can’t wait to share more of this as it unfolds. Some places aren’t meant to be rushed, and Desa Eko is one of them.

This morning at @olastulum, I flew my drone just after sunrise, and it confirmed what I was already feeling from the ground. I'm here doing something really special with @hiptraveler, details coming soon... But more about this property, this place is super special. I’ve been flying drones for 12 years, and I film 20-30 hotels every year, all over the world. When you’ve seen that many properties from the air, you develop a very clear sense of what’s intentional and what’s just noise. From above, Olas Tulum feels calm. Balanced. Honest. No visual chaos. No overbuilt sprawl. Just thoughtful architecture sitting quietly between the jungle and the sea. From the ground, it’s even better. You hear the waves everywhere. You fall asleep to them. You wake up to them. The ocean sets the pace, not a schedule, not a playlist, not a crowd. I’ve heard people talk for years about what Tulum used to feel like before it became crowded, overpriced, and overdeveloped. I can’t personally speak to that era, but I can say this, this is how I imagine it was meant to feel. Olas Tulum is calm and intentional. No air conditioning by choice, not as a gimmick. Design that works with nature instead of fighting it. Restraint where most places chose excess. Tulum didn’t lose momentum because travelers stopped loving it. It lost momentum because it tried to be everything at once. Louder, bigger, more expensive, more performative. Travelers noticed, and they adjusted. What makes Olas Tulum different is that it didn’t follow that path. This isn’t a place for scenes or spectacle. It’s a place for presence. For listening to the waves and remembering that great hospitality doesn’t need to shout. This won’t be for everyone, and that’s exactly why it works. 📸 @jamesactivee

One of the reasons staying somewhere like @desaekobali hits differently is that the experience doesn’t stop at the property line. When you’re in a place like Munduk, the surroundings matter just as much as where you sleep. Waterfalls hidden in the jungle. Quiet temples tucked into the hills. Canoeing across a lake with mist still hanging in the air. Rice terraces carved into the landscape over generations. These aren’t extras. They’re part of the stay. Great properties don’t try to keep guests inside. They give them a base. Somewhere grounded, calm, and intentional to return to after exploring what makes the location special in the first place. That’s where memories actually form. This is what travel looks like when it’s done right. You experience the land. You connect with the culture. Then you come back, slow down, and let it all settle in. 🎬 @jamesactivee ⛺ @desaekobali

A few days ago we went out on the water inside the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, and it surprised me. We took a boat deep into the reserve, flying just above the water. The river is incredibly shallow and crystal clear, but the current is powerful. At one point they cut the engine, handed us life vests, and dropped us into the water. And then you just float. For close to two miles, you let the current carry you through this untouched stretch of nature. No noise. No development. No distractions. Just water, sky, mangroves, and time slowing down. We also flew the drone above the boat, and that’s when the scale really hits you. The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve spans roughly 2,040 square miles. That’s larger than some countries. Mangroves, wetlands, jungle, reef systems, and waterways all protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And this isn’t somewhere far away on a map. This is South Tulum. And @olastulum is the last hotel before you enter it. That matters. And I wouldn't have known this without @hiptraveler, so thank YOU! From a destination psychology perspective, this is what most places get wrong. They build up to the edge of something extraordinary, then erase the very thing that made it special. Overbuild. Overprice. Overpromise. Until the magic disappears. Olas took the opposite approach. You feel it in the restraint. You hear it in the waves at night. You see it from the air. Being this close to a protected ecosystem of this size forces a different mindset. You move slower. You observe more. You become aware of how small decisions add up. This is why zero waste travel isn’t about rules. It’s about awareness. When you’re floating through a living system like this, you understand very quickly that you’re not the center of the experience. You’re a guest. For those who’ve been to Tulum, what does Tulum mean to you today, versus a few years ago? And for those who haven’t been, what do you think it represents?

🇮🇩 We took a quick drive from @desaekobali this morning and suddenly you’re standing in front of something that feels completely untouched. Today we went out to Red Coral Waterfall, and it was incredible. No crowds. No noise. Just water crashing down into the jungle, mist in the air, and that feeling where everything else goes quiet for a minute. What I love about being based somewhere like this is how easy it is to access places like this without turning it into a whole production. You’re not hiking for hours or checking boxes. You just go. And then you stand there longer than you planned because it pulls you in. The waterfalls around this area aren’t a bonus activity. They’re part of the landscape, part of the rhythm, part of why Munduk feels so different from the rest of Bali. Days like this remind you that some of the best travel moments come from slowing down just enough to notice what’s right around you.

I have a question for you, do you like rain? I’ve been at @desaekobali for the last few days, and I keep hearing the same comments over and over. “It looks so lush.” “It’s unbelievably green.” “I love that you can sleep in the middle of the jungle with the sound of water.” There’s a simple reason for all of that. Rain. When you visit Munduk in the off season, rain is part of the experience. It’s not something you work around, it’s something you live with. And honestly, that’s what makes this place what it is. Yes, it rains. Every day so far, actually. But what people don’t realize is that you never lose the day to it. We’ve had rain every single day and we’ve also had blue skies and sunshine every single day. The two exist together. The rain passes. The light comes back. Over and over again. And that rain is the reason this place feels alive. It’s why the jungle is so dense. Why the rice terraces glow. Why the air feels clean. Why everything around you feels layered and deep instead of dry and flat. You don’t get places like this without water. You don’t get this kind of environment by accident. For me, it’s not good or bad. It’s not something to tolerate or complain about. It’s perfect. It slows you down. It softens the edges of the day. It makes you stop chasing plans and just be where you are. Desa Eko exists because of this rhythm. You don’t come here for constant blue skies. You come here to experience the land as it actually is. And once you accept that, the rain stops feeling like an inconvenience and starts feeling like the whole point. #ASMR

The peaceful rainy sounds of @desaekobali ☔️ After being at Desa Eko with @mrscotteddy for the past week now we’ve had a mixture of both sun a rain While I love the sunny days being able to explore nearby waterfalls and rice terraces, there’s just something about rainy days here being surrounded by so much nature It’s forced me to slow down, be present, take in all that’s around me I’m used to living a fast paced life, so even though it’s sometimes harder for me to slow down, being here has made it easy I’ve found myself able to think clearly, no music, no distractions, just the sound of nature and slowing down I’ve been able to focus on the little moments and finding the beauty in just being still and fully present. Being here at @desaekobali has made that easy #bali #movingpostcards #desaeko #asmr #mundok

Comment “WORKSHOP” and I’ll send you the link 👇🏽 Most people think you need a big following to get paid by hotels and brands. I didn’t. I had under 3k followers and no idea what I was doing. What changed everything wasn’t my numbers, it was learning to pitch value instead of influence. I stopped asking hotels for free stays and started showing them exactly what they were missing in their content, and how I could fix it. That shift is the reason I’ve worked with 350+ brands and hotels in 30+ countries, without ever being an influencer. If you’re a small travel creator sitting on good content with no idea how to turn it into paid deals, this is for you. Two years ago, I gave up alcohol and drugs 🚫🍺💊 (Except one night. I feel like I have to mention that. I really regretted it) I started with just 30 days to see if it would make a difference, and it did 🙏🏼 Now, two years later, I’ve seen the impact on every part of my life: my travels, my work, my relationships, my fitness, and my mental health. Better moods, clearer days, more energy, and fully living every moment 💪🏽 Sobriety isn’t about missing out, it’s about gaining everything. If you’re thinking about starting, even just 30 days can show you what’s possible 🙌🏼 #alcoholfree #drugfree #soberliving #healthyliving #mentalhealth

This is a special post for me as I feel I’ve accomplished my dream life👇🏽 If you don’t know my story, I almost lost my life 8 years ago. Ever since then I looked at life as a second chance. Lying in that hospital bed I made the decision to change my life and to start living the life I’ve dreamed of. If I didn’t make it that day, I wouldn’t have been happy with the life I lived. So I made one decision, and set a date to make it happen. After getting stuck during Covid I reached a point where I was about to go for it. So I booked a one way ticket out of Canada, with no savings, no job, no plan B, sold everything I own, but a dream to travel the world as a travel creator and to live my dream life capturing different cultures of the world And I didn’t look back I bought a camera and a drone and didn’t know how to use either of them, and actually crashed my drone right before I left 😂 the first year I only used my iPhone. Didn’t know how to edit any photos or videos I came into this industry not know anything Was it hard, omg absolutely. But I bet on myself. There wasn’t one thought I would fail at this life. I didn’t know how to make it work, but I knew I would do my best at figuring it out It’s almost exactly 3 years to the day that I left. Ever since I left I’ve had a special calling for Bali and I’ve had it on the background of my phone because it was my dream to go there doing what I love Fast forward to now I’ve travelled to almost 30 countries, worked with over 250+ hotels and brands, and meeting the most amazing people along the way And I just spent a week filming in Bali doing what I truly love I can’t express how grateful and proud I am🙏🏼 Now if I died tomorrow I know I took the risk to chase my dreams, lived the life I’ve always wanted, and lived life to the fullest. I had to have a near death experience to finally do it, so my message to you is that whatever you want in life, go for it. Set the date. Take the risks. Life is short, and tomorrow isn’t promised 🙏🏼 Thank you @mrscotteddy @desaekobali @mat.iu_ @michaelcohennomad for making this happen 🙏🏼 (Dying at my orange and teal photos from only 3 years ago 😂)

Life is short, and tomorrow isn’t promised 🙏🏼 Thank you @mrscotteddy @desaekobali @mat.iu_ @michaelcohennomad for making this happen 🙏🏼 (Dying at my orange and teal photos from only 3 years ago 😂)
