If you’re heading out on a day hike, this is my non-negotiable gear list. It’s not about overpacking, it’s about being prepared for whatever the day might bring. Having the right gear can make all the difference. Better to carry it and not need it, than need it and not have it! Here’s what I always carry in my pack: • Waterproof jacket + pants • Warm layers (thermal top & bottoms, beanie, gloves) • Survival bag, whistle and PLB • Basic first aid kit • At least 2L water capacity + electrolytes • Food (lunch + snacks) plus a little extra in case • Hat, sunscreen, glasses • Puffer jacket (in colder months)

SAVE THIS RECIPE ❤️ Our perfect little adventure combo. We made our Cranberry + Chocolate Muesli Bars, packed our personalised @kathmandugear Trailhead Packs, and hit the track with Hetti. Whether you’re heading out to the trails or packing your little one’s lunchbox, try the recipe below 🎒 Serves: 12 Time: 15 minutes 1 ½ cups rolled oats ½ cup dried coconut ¼ cup sunflower seeds ¼ cup pumpkin seeds 1 cup dried dates - soaked in boiling water for 5 minutes then drained 4 tbsp coconut oil - melted 1 tbsp tahini 1 tsp vanilla bean extract or paste ½ tsp sea salt ¼ cup dried cranberries ¼ cup pumpkin seeds 80g dark chocolate - chopped into chunks Simple Swaps / Additions  — If you are gluten free, swap rolled oats for raw buckwheat groats. — Change the seeds to any nut such as walnuts, almonds, cashews. — Change dried dates for dried apricots, prunes or figs. — Coconut oil for butter — Tahini for any other nut butter such as peanut butter or almond butter. — Dried cranberries for any other dried fruit of your choice. — You can leave out the chocolate completely or instead of adding through the bar you could drizzle melted chocolate over the top once the bars have set. — Use your favourite chocolate. Method: Place the oats, coconut, sunflower and pumpkin seeds in a blender and blend into a fine flour. Add the soaked dates, coconut oil, tahini and salt. Blend until a cookie dough consistency is formed. Add the dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds and chopped chocolate to the blender and with a spoon mix until well combined. Alternatively, you could spoon the mixture into a bowl, add the cranberries, pumpkin seeds and chopped chocolate and mix. Press the dough into a lined tin. Use the back of a spoon to create a nice smooth top. Store in the freezer to set for at least 2 hours.   Once set, cut into bars and store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.
