Managing freelancing and content creation means there’s a lot on my plate, but I’ve found ways to stay efficient and Claude is one of them!!

I’ve been a huge fan since I started using Claude a few months ago. It’s helped make a lot of tasks faster, easier, and serves as a sounding board for tasks where I struggle to get out of my own head. I see it as more of a collaborator than something that thinks for me.

Discover what’s possible and try Claude for free! @claudeai

welp 🥲

I knew we’d need to buy pieces to make my closet better.

but she could only make a few outfits out of what I had to match my inspo board (and both outfits I’d worn before).

i have 1 pair of jeans I love. 1 pair of denim shorts and I don’t love them. 1 pair of linen pants. no linen shorts. only a handful of more elevated basic tops. hardly any accessories.

what is a stylist going to do with that?! there’s only so much she can do!!

but that was the validating part.

I get really in my head about not consuming too much, but I think I’ve UNDERconsumed. having a professional who does this every single day look at my closet and feel stumped for how to create the type of outfits I want…no WONDER I am stressed over here trying to get dressed!! 😂

learnings and takeaways:

1. fabric quality matters. draping a quality sweater over your shoulders will always look more elevated than a cheap, thin material. I thought I could get away with thrifting cheaper sweaters instead of buying something higher quality, but it didn’t work.

instead: I would just buy the higher quality sweater from the jump. you can thrift these too, it doesn’t need to be pricey, but pay VERY close attention to things like material thickness, how worn it looks, etc.

2. if you wouldn’t buy it now, it likely doesn’t need to be in your closet. I feel the guilt of “I spent money on it, so I should keep it” even if I bought it 6 years ago. but reality is, it doesn’t help to hold onto things you wouldn’t be excited to find at the store now.

instead: ask yourself “would I buy this if I saw it at the store today?” and if the answer is no, it’s okay to part with it.

3. it’s good to think about how you want to present. when people meet you, what qualities do you want them to assume you embody? (confidence, poise, power, depth, creativity, etc) if what you’re wearing doesn’t make YOU feel those things, you may wind up reflecting that externally. for me, this meant ditching a lot of my really old, casual t-shirts from college.

instead: ask yourself how you FEEL in pieces. you know those pieces that you just come ALIVE in, like you want to take pictures and dance around in? make sure you have enough of those.

—

one thing Alyza said to me that has stuck with me was that how I’m dressing now doesn’t reflect how she sees me. she said she sees me as more powerful, confident, and baddie business woman vibes, but my wardrobe doesn’t reflect that in any way (which is true).

that is how I WANT to show up. so people really SEE me when they meet me.

so off to the mall we go to shop!! 💃🏻

I never really talk about this online but I used to be a lot heavier and still often see myself as that version of me. That, combined with undiagnosed health issues for 12 years, meant my body changed a lot over the years.

It made getting dressed my least favorite part of the day. I hated how everything looked on me and resorted to tshirts and leggings. I hated tight clothes because I felt uncomfortable but I also hated oversized because it brought me back to how I felt when I was heavier. It’s funny how that works.

I asked Alyza to be super honest with me about my clothes because I want a real, lasting solution. But there were moments that also felt really vulnerable. She gave me so many little pep talks like this throughout the whole closet audit 😭 and I already have a different perspective on what I can wear. I’ve been looking at clothes online the last few days excited about how I can style things, not thinking about what I “can’t wear”
