🇩🇴 Punta Cana CLT - Dominican- Caribbean Food in Charlotte, NC Thanks to @puntacanaclt 🌴 for hosting us and thanks to @idrkb3cca for joining me! Our experience at Punta Cana was amazing. Here’s what we tried, all of it was delicious: -Morir Soñando (fresh orange drink) -Liquid MJ -Dominican Rum in Coconut For appetizers - we got the sample platter with quipes (wheat fritters stuffed with beef), pastelitos (meat hand pie) and yuca balls filled with cheese. For the entree, we shared a large sampler platter for all their most popular dishes: -Mofongos Camarones - smashed plantain with meat and topped with shrimp and garlic cream sauce -Res Guisado - flavorful beef stew -Pernil - roast pork served with crispy skin -Platano Maduro - sweet plantains -Tostones - crispy green plantain & of course, rice, beans and a garden salad! 🥗 They offer daily lunch specials Monday–Saturday from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM for $10.95, and they include two sides, with options from baked chicken, fried pork chops, and more. 🍶 MASIJA - Charlotte’s First Sojubang! @masija.clt Shoutout to my lovely dinner dates: @jackiehdzm @lanzeats @giannapendergrass I’m all for a flashy, busy night out on the town, but sometimes I just want a chance to sit down in a warm and cozy atmosphere, drink and laugh with my friends, and share plates of delicious food. Masija is a sojubang - so it’s a place to do exactly that! The interior is cozy, cool, and ambient, and the spacious booths were perfect for our group of 4. We probably could have fit a few more if we wanted to. The food and drinks were all really delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we had quite a few leftovers to take home. We tried: To drink: 🍷 Bok Bon Ja - Raspberry Wine 🍶 Lychee Soju To eat: 🦑 Fried calamari (on the house!) 🍠 Sweet Potato Nest 🥟 Fried Pork Dumplings 🌽 Sizzling Corn Cheese 🍲 Budae Jjigae (Army Stew) 🥩 Galbi 🍴Tteobokki 🍗 Chicken Wings 🦑 Spicy Squid My favorites were the budae jjigae, the tteobokki, the sizzling corn cheese and the spicy squid. Their soju was juicy and strong, and the lychee flavor was great. You can’t go wrong ordering here though and they’re sure to share some good recommendations with you. My advice is to grab some drinks, order a few dishes that catch your eye, and then order more as needed. Their menu is large and the prices are fair for the portion sizes. The ingredients are of super high quality and are all more than enough to share. Even with all the drinks and food we got, it broke down to about $60 a person. After we got our food, we realized we definitely could have ordered less, but it was all so delicious I don’t know if I would have wanted to ;) Thank you so much to Kim, our server, and to Eunice, the owner, for giving us the rundown on what to order. It’s not begging to be included, it’s holding accountability for Charlotte businesses and making it clear that we will not blindly support those who don’t support us. These are stressful times and there are a lot of very rich people who pay to keep Charlotte the way it is. Segregation and gentrification have long term effects that will impact WAYYY more people than just Charlotte creators and influencers. For things that shouldn’t be that expensive. 4. I actually think the vendor fee for food trucks was even higher because they had to pay for things like gas on top of it. Not to mention staffing and supplies. To be fair though, I have heard people make a pretty good amount of money back. This isn’t to bash anyone or stir drama but likeeee… if it fits… idk 🤪 I also think you can still attend these events and have a great time. The meatballs are still available on their regular menu along with all kinds of other handmade pasta dishes, locally sourced focaccia from Wheatberry Bake Shop, Italian desserts, wine, and more. ⭐️ RARE and EXCLUSIVE Italian White Truffle Pasta from ESO Artisanal Pasta ⭐️ @esopastaclt @optimisthallclt I was lucky enough to be one of only 300 people to try this dish this past weekend. Truffle season in Italy spans only a few months and ESO doesn’t use any kind of truffle paste or oil, only the real stuff. For this reason (and the $1700/lb price tag) it’s available in extremely limited quantities once a year. The tajarin is a regional pasta made with egg yolks, adding an extra dimension of luxury by way of it’s bright golden color and silky texture. You can see big slices of imported Italian white truffle on top of beautiful handmade noodles and dressed in a rich decadent sauce. I savored every single bite and I love the umami, earthy, almost garlick-y flavor of the truffles. I have had an interest in equitable access to nutritious food for a long time. It feels so pretentious to read some of these documents and laws, loaded with with jargon instead of cutting to the point so people can REALLY understand what is happening. And that’s very intentional. I could make a 10 minute version of this because this isn’t even the worst of it. Start to source your own food locally now, avoid massively over processed products and seek out your own independent news sources NOW.
