Nobody knows that between Connecticut’s casinos, sits an abandoned haunted hospital. This was Norwich State Hospital, one of the most BRUTAL insane asylums in the country. The hospital opened October 1904 and closed October 1996. The buildings were added to the National Historic Register in 1988. At it’s peak in 1955, there were over 3,000 patients! Unfortunately, Norwich State Hospital had a notorious history of mistreatment towards patients, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people. There were several attempts to sell the property, but efforts stopped in 2005, until the Town of Preston purchased the land in 2010.
