In July 2025, BD Athlete @connor.herson climbed his hardest trad pitch to date—Drifter’s Escape. To confirm the grade, he set out to repeat the world’s hardest trad routes—including Norway’s Crown Royale (established at 5.14d) Legacy is earned. For BD Athlete Connor Herson, the only way to leave something behind that stands the test of time is to first try the benchmarks that have already been established. That was the genesis behind Connor’s trip to Norway. For last week’s High Sierra mission I joined @cannonjtc on Trapezoid Peak to climb the route Shield of Dream, a really beautiful 5 pitch 5.13b put up by Andy Puhvel and Chase Leary. I didn’t get any photos of the climbing (it was great, really nice rock) but I took a bunch from the scenic approach and descent. With Jordan’s beta I managed to flash, which continued a rather satisfying streak this summer. I mostly train in my garage and then go out once a week to climb something that I’m proud of. Sadly, on the hike out Jordan trundled a giant boulder on himself and gashed his heel - I made a movie…

SHAOLIN V17 12/4/25 What a damn battle. No other climb has ever challenged me the same way as Shaolin. After sorting out my method and dialing in all the moves, it seemed close to coming together. Quickly after I started trying from the bottom, I stuck the first jump and blew it on the second. I was stoked it was feeling so close, but with how consistent the two jump link felt in Iso, I couldn’t help feeling like it was a punt. For the entirety of last season, I felt confident I would do it, but somehow I kept fumbling the final jump (around 25 times). It was incredibly frustrating because after so many sessions, the difficulty of the climb was no longer physical, it was mental. Every sesh I would hike out confused why it hadn’t come together yet — It was almost like I built the muscle memory of not doing it. Coming back this season I picked up right where I left off, falling on the last move. I started to get worried that I was in my head again. Then on my fourth sesh back, under a rising full moon, it all came together. I went to war with this one. To finally latch that last hold felt absolutely electric. For sure one of the hardest and best pieces of rock I’ve ever climbed. Thank you @seanbailey for bringing this one to life. I’ll never forget my times raging up there! 📸 @bm_v1000

After thousands of letters and mounting public pressure, Congressman Ryan Zinke stepped up to oppose the bill, introducing a measure with Speaker Mike Johnson to strike sell-off language from the proposed legislation. The bill passed 215-214 ONLY after a last-minute manager’s amendment erased the land grab entirely. But we're not done yet. The bill STILL includes: ❌ Weakened NEPA protections ❌ Cuts to conservation funding ❌ Fast-tracked development on OUR public lands This bill now heads to the Senate. Let's keep the pressure on! My time on the route was remarkably fun and positive, in no small part because of the people I shared those moments with. I have so much more to say, but for now I’ll leave it here: to everyone who’s supported or worked the route with me, thank you. I wouldn’t trade those days for the world.

Balin Miller was a new addition to the BD Ambassador Team, but a longtime friend of the brand. We are devastated to learn of his passing, and our hearts go out to his dear loved ones.   He was a vibrant personality that will be deeply missed in the climbing community. Although his time with us was all too short, his lighthearted style coupled with his focused tenacity for alpine pursuits has undoubtedly made a lasting impression on everyone he met.   Balin’s desire to push himself and his love for climbing was infectious. Whether he was putting up the rope on the crux pitch or laying in his sleeping bag for a days-on-end storm, it was easy to see that Balin truly loved every moment of being in the mountains. I climbed on test pieces with hard laybacking and bad feet like Viceroy and China Doll. After being able to send these quite comfortably, I wanted to up the ante on these granite trad climbs. I decided to try and lead rope solo China Doll and after trying and testing out my systems for the first time ever that day I sent—only clipping trad gear I placed on lead. It was my third ever lead rope solo and the other two were practice goes on the first pitch of this route. Psyched to take this skill to some of the big walls in Yosemite!”
