✨cutting carbs 101:

Ok hear me out - proteins, fats AND carbs are all MACRONUTRIENTS for a reason so unless you have been directed to do so by a medical professional, you do NOT have to cut out carbs to get results on your fitness journey.

Trust me, I went through that phase when I thought every carb was “unhealthy” too, but GIRLLL we are LITERALLY talking about a sweet potato 🤦‍♀️🍠

YES low carb diets CAN work for SOME people, but MOST people are gonna see best results with a balanced diet.

no one really talks about how important carbs are ESPECIALLY for women, so let me remind you:
1. carbs are your brain’s preferred fuel source so cutting them from your diet can lead to brain fog, make it harder to focus, and decrease mental performance.

2. carbs are protein sparing which means your body prefers to use them for energy, so “spares” protein from being broken down and used as fuel so it can be used for other roles like muscle growth & repair instead 

3. carbs help regulate your hormones so they play a role in keeping stress, hunger, and metabolism-related hormones balanced.
Getting enough carbs is CRUCIAL for regulating hormones like LH & FSH which are vital for ovulation and healthy menstrual cycles. Low carb intake can disrupt these hormones, potentially leading to irregular or missing periods.

4. pre-workout carbs are great for a faster acting energy release than protein or fats (which are typically digested slower), and post workout carbs are essential to replenish your glycogen stores and promote muscle recovery

Seems like such a trivial thing, but as you start lifting heavier dumbbells over time, the best way to avoid any silly injuries is to pick up the dumbbell like it’s a deadlift whatever exercise you’re doing.

What DID get me abs ⬇️ (explanations)

-As a beginner i made the mistake of doing 3 sets of 12 for all my exercises, but it meant that I wasn’t pushing myself properly to feel every rep. I was just rushing through them to reach 12 reps & not training close enough to failure.

-at least 1g of protein per lb or 2g of protein per kg of your bw is crucial for muscle growth! I used to just have a protein shake for breakfast and think that was enough but tracking my protein intake really helped me hit the goal consistently 

-I used to train abs every day and barely saw any results as I wasn’t training hard enough. Train your abs like any other muscle group using progressive overload to up the intensity of your workouts over time.

-Caffeinated preworkout can be great for morning sessions, but if you’re training later in the day, you risk completely messing up your sleep schedule due to the caffeine still in your system when trying to fall asleep.
(The half-life of caffeine is between 3-7 hours, meaning half of it may still be present in your body, after taking it). I personally don’t have caffeine at all as I’m SUPER sensitive to it but sensitivity will differ from person to person.

HOW TO PLANK CORRECTLY:

1. Keep your hands facing forward on the floor reduce pressure on the shoulders and prevent the elbows from tucking in too close.

2. Keep your head & neck aligned with your spine. Avoid tilting your head up or down to maintain a neutral neck position by looking down at the floor

3. Protract your shoulder blades instead of pinching them together. Aim to spread them slightly to engage the serratus anterior & stabilise the upper back

4. Tuck your pelvis under slightly & engage your core. Avoid sticking your butt up or letting your lower back sag. Your body should create a lil arch, supported as you engage your core.

5. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart.
This provides better stability & balance, especially for beginners.

6. Actually focus on contracting your
core muscles. You wanna be actively engaged - don’t just passively hold the plank position and expect it to have the same effectiveness (this is what makes planks challenging)
