Everyone’s way of “priming” for the day looks a little different and that’s okay. There is no ONE routine or practice that is more significant — it is simply what makes YOU feel good to get closer to becoming the person you want to each day. 👌🏼

Here’s my morning after a good night’s sleep (@pneumanasaltape helping with the collagen infused mouth tape): cold shower, coffee, meditation, intentional gratitude, journaling, movement.

A day training for a 100 mile race…at 6’4, 235lb. 🏃

Around 8 months out and I’m beginning the prep work now to put my body through a 100 mile race, at altitude, covering 16,000+ feet of elevation. What does that mean for me? 🧐

It means a lot of time on my feet (help tendon and ligament strength and building aerobic base), strength sessions in the gym to continue to build/maintain muscle mass, and figuring out ways to supplement my diet and training to reduce the overall impact on my body (increase performance and recovery). 

Two of the things I’ve been using are:

In my opinion, one of the best ways to get ANYONE rolling is to incorporate movement into your morning — whether it’s 20 minutes or 2 hours is up to you and your goals, but getting the blood flowing will tell your brain “hey, it’s go time!”

Running trails without the trail… 🏃

One of the biggest focuses for training for this 100 mile race in August (with 16,000+ ft of elevation gain) is being able to get elevation gain in my runs. However, let’s just say it’s not the easiest thing to do when you live at sea level… 😂

It’s a good thing @nordictrack has a really sick treadmill (X24 Treadmill) that you can follow along on trail runs with trainers on the @ifit app (10,000+ workouts) and as you run the trails, the treadmill adjusts up and down based on the trail. 🤯 

Basically, I’m able to mimic climbing up a mountain (the treadmill adjusts to 40% incline) or running down which is also a completely different skill. Technology these days… 🙌🏼

Sounds of the Morning 🙆🏻‍♂️🎼

My routine is looking a little different at the moment with my back being out of whack (I’m a poet apparently). A few things I’m taking away from moving LESS at the moment:

1. Sometimes we have to accept when we NEED to go slow, when we NEED a break, and when we NEED to listen to our body. Historically, I’m not great at this — it’s a good reminder that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. 💭

2. Never take what you love doing for granted. 🙏

3. The boring, little things tend to make the most impact — I have been terrible about incorporating mobility into my routine…now I’m dealing with the consequences. 🙃

4. Perspective is your best friend. It’s really easy to get down/mad/sad when you are limited (this has been me the last few days) but being in tune with the fact that everything is happening EXACTLY as it should will always provide a peace (piece?) of mind. 🧠

5. When limited/hurt, movement is okay — take it light, take more rest, creating blood flow will help with recovery. Be mindful. 👌🏼

6. Don’t forget to smile. Even if you don’t want to. 😄

Building the base for 100 miles… 🤠🏃

I haven’t “officially” announced it but I don’t think we have to get all that formal about some announcement — my next big race I am building up for is the Leadville 100 Trail run in August of 2026. 

100 miles in under 30 hours. 
At 12,500 ft altitude. 
With over 15,000 ft in elevation gain. 

And a lotttttt of learning to do about trail running, ultra marathon running, and clearly…the white stuff coming out of my body on a 15 mile run? It was sweat. 😂

I’ll be posting the journey here (and on @strava where I put all my “notes to self” after every run) — fueled by @thefeed (more to come)

Today’s run: plan was 10 but I felt incredibly so I decided to stride it out for 15 and pick up the pace towards the end. Our body’s are so much more capable than we think they are especially when we tap into the power of our minds. 🧠

Life lately… 📸

Here are a few life lessons (to self) I have been pondering the past couple of weeks:

1) Wear sunscreen. 🦞

2) “Real” friends are hard to come by. Here’s a quote: “Before you win, people will ask you why you work so hard. After you win, people will remind you how lucky you got.“ 💭

3) It’s okay to take it slow — just because you aren’t moving as fast as you’d like doesn’t mean you are not making MEANINGFUL progress. 🐢

4) Gratitude is the foundation to my definition of “love.” 🙏

5) Simplify. Focusing 110% on ONE THING will move mountains while trying to focus on 10 different things every day will lead to mediocrity.

What’s your perfect day? 🙌🏼

I went to type out a caption about how “perfect” or “ideal” today felt waking up early, going through my morning routine, going for a bike ride in nature, baking some muffins, and then relaxing to read…

I battled with how I feel we all have different kinds of “perfect,” yet, nothing is perfect. 

And then it hit me. 

Every day is perfect. After all, we have literally never seen this day before — so whatever we do in the day that we are given, our definition of “perfect” may change, but we have been given an opportunity to be ALIVE…and that’s pretty perfect if you ask me. 🙏

This nomad journey is getting really fun… 

From the first workout in the “truck gym” to wake surfing for the first time in the sunset on Lake Powell, I cannot think of a better way to cap off a friend’s birthday festivities. 🎉

Great people, presence outside, and a sense of play, to me, is the ultimate recipe to cultivate the experience of joy and fulfillment. 🙏

Well…sometimes you just have to trust that everything is happening for a reason.

First of all, after posting a story yesterday, I had hundreds of you sending messages and I want to say thank you for the support! We will make the best of this. 🙏

Secondly, I am making this post to update all of you with potential answers to some of your questions and do not feel you need to feel sorry for me. Life is about getting punched in the stomach sometimes and understanding how you will move forward with the unfortunate news — it’s about how we react and reframe our minds to GROW THROUGH IT, not “go through it.” 👌🏼

While I still don’t have ENOUGH answers or information to make any conclusions (we don’t REALLY know how long my back has been this way), it is pretty evident that the foreseeable future will be taken pretty slow. With a large bulge at the L5/S1, I am going to have to take some time to rehab, get my steps through walking instead of running, and be smart in my path forward with my training — something I probably should’ve been smarter about to start.

I have realized a few things in the last 24 hours of processing what it means that I may have some of my favorite things taken away from me for a while (running, cycling, etc.)

1. Every coach needs a coach. 
2. Never take movement for granted. 
3. It’s okay to slow down. 
4. The boring, monotonous things are the most important. 
5. There is a story to be told in all situations in life. What will you make of each chapter?

While I cannot pinpoint EXACTLY what happened,  I do know that when your body starts to communicate with you that something isn’t right, you have to listen to it. Unfortunately, I’m not the best at that at times. Now, we are addressing it head on. 

I will still be able to workout (just lighter and more rest), but will be directing most of my focus to rehab, walking, remembering to enjoy the little things, and put more time into my coaching program. 🙌🏼
