6 Exercises to Run Efficiently

1. Carioca
Opens up the hips while training rotational control, helping your stride feel smoother, more coordinated, and more stable with each step.

2. A-Skip
Reinforces proper sprint mechanics by teaching your foot to land under your center of mass, creating quicker turnover and more efficient movement.

3. High Knees
Trains rapid leg cycling and upright posture, helping you increase cadence and efficiency without forcing speed or wasting energy.

4. Straight-Leg Run
Develops front-side mechanics and stiffness through the ankle and hamstring, improving ground contact quality and elastic return.

5. Single-Leg High Knee / Cycle Drill
Builds unilateral coordination and balance while teaching each leg to lift, strike, and recover cleanly through the running cycle.

6. 1-2 Switch
Sharpens ground contact speed and force application, allowing you to hit the ground quickly, rebound efficiently, and move forward with less effort.

Beginner Plyometrics for Runners

Plyometrics = jump training

Benefits:

Improve power
- You push off the ground quicker = faster pace with less effort

Build stronger tendons
- Think of your Achilles like a spring. Plyos make that spring stronger and more efficient

Reduce injury risk
- Your body learns how to absorb force instead of breaking down from it

Improve running economy
- You use less energy at the same pace

You don’t need anything crazy.
Start with 1–2x per week. Keep it simple.

Chicago Marathon: 2:48:52

Jobs not finished.

I didn’t hit my goal, but I’m not mad at it.

This was my best effort for the day.

The marathon doesn’t owe you anything.

It’s tough and it’s supposed to be.

I had so much fun though.

I can’t thank you all enough for the support.

So much love for Chicago.

We will be back for sub 2:45.

God bless.

My first 70.3 @ironmantri

What an unreal experience.

Final time: DQ

I crossed the finish line at 5:01:52, but it should have been 5:03:52 because I got a 2 min penalty while on the bike for drafting.

I ended up missing the penalty zone tent and thought the 2 mins would be added to my final time, but it wasn’t.

These are some of the learning curves when doing a new sport and I love it because it shows that I’m a beginner with a lot to learn and this is also a reminder to read the athletes manual.

It’s unfortunate that I got DQ from the race, but it’s a mistake that I can learn from for future races.

Regardless, I’m proud of the effort and truly enjoyed the experience.

I felt much better in the swim than I did a few weeks ago at my first triathlon.

I wanted to get sub 5-hours and plenty of people said it was a crazy goal especially with how bad I swim, but we were close even with a short training block.

I’m excited for the next one @ironmanamericas

POV: you realize group runs are fun when you’re not the one getting dropped.

The heat in Texas is no joke.

It’s a great place to train and get heat adaptive.

Track Workout with @goodpainathletics
- 1 mile warmup
- 4 x 600m | 2 min rest
- 4 x 400m | 90 sec rest
- 4 x 200m | 60 sec rest

Sprint Drills to Increase Speed and Running Mechanics

These are great movements to add into your warmup before a track session to improve speed and running mechanics.

Especially for runners training for half & full marathons.

It’s easy to just “run” during training without developing your mechanics. This can help you be a stronger runner.

Stop Wearing Carbon Fiber Supershoes Leisurely.

I am all for running a fast PB and that means running in carbon plated super shoes.

But stop wearing these shoes on a day to day basis.

It can be a detriment to your foot health and potentially lead to injuries.

Find a pair of daily trainers to walk around in.
