📰 Cult-Favorite Dessert Duo Preparing Second Location in Meyerland

🆕 Houston favorites @UndergroundCreamery — known for its limited weekly flavor “drops” — and @PudgysFineCookies are expanding their partnership with a second location at Meyerland Court at 4798 Beechnut. Opening in August, it builds on the years-long collaboration between the two businesses. The new space will be larger than the original at 1010 North Shepherd, and will include indoor seating. Van Teamer, owner of Pudgy’s Fine Cookies, and Josh DeLeon, owner of Underground Creamery, say the expansion reflects a philosophy that independent businesses can achieve more by working together.

🍪 “It’s the best of both worlds,” said Teamer. “We each have our own businesses and creative freedom, but we also get to share ideas, support one another and celebrate each other’s wins. Even though we’re doing our own thing, we’re working toward the same goal of creating a great experience for our community and helping each other succeed.”

🍦 Guests can expect Pudgy’s signature cookies and cookie sundaes alongside the debut of Underground Softies, soft-serve ice cream from Underground Creamery. The business’s limited-edition flavors have developed a devoted following. (Some recent selections include Malted Peanut Butter Specula and Death Road — Valrhona chocolate ice cream with candied pecans and vanilla bean marshmallow fluff.) The weekly releases, announced via text message to subscribers and sold at the Underground Creamery website, frequently sell out. However, DeLeon says that soft-serve will have a “less dynamic” menu. Guests will still have options for creative toppings — and naturally, plenty of cookie and ice cream combos.

🤝 “It’s been such a great arrangement,” said DeLeon. “I think more people should do it if they feel like it’ll work. Of course there are boundaries and everyone has to be on the same page, but sharing knowledge has helped both of us grow faster than I ever imagined.”

🎉 Grand opening celebrations and exclusive collaborations will be announced soon.

🔔 A new neighborhood bar has opened in Houston’s Old Sixth Ward. The Bell and Crane, located at 908 Henderson Street, was founded by hospitality veteran Ashley Bell and is described as an elevated dive bar offering quality cocktails, childhood throwback-themed bites and a casual setting.

🏡 The bar’s name honors Bell’s family, combining her mother’s maiden name and the English translation of her father’s surname. The space, formerly Henderson Heights where Bell once served as manager, was redesigned with maroon paint, neon lighting, eclectic artwork and cozy furnishings to create an approachable atmosphere.

🍸 The beverage menu includes $12 house martinis such as Tomato, Strawberry Jam and Espresso, alongside signature cocktails like the Peach Aperol Margarita. 🥃 Classic options such as Old Fashioneds, Manhattans and Ranch Waters are also featured, as well as Mai Tai flights, frozen drinks, natural wine and a varied beer list.

🌭 Food offerings lean nostalgic, with items like Dino Nuggs, Dunkeroos, Ramen Cups and customizable Hot Dogs available daily. The space includes an outdoor patio, which is also used for events such as karaoke nights and private gatherings. 🎉 The Bell and Crane’s grand opening celebration will be held Saturday, October 18, beginning at 7 p.m. and features music by DJ Waldo and bites by Henderson & Kane.

🥩 This Thursday, February 26, the former Superica space at 1801 North Shepherd will reopen as Star Rover, a concept from Rocket Farm Restaurants and chef-restaurateur Ford Fry. 🤠 It takes inspiration from the West Texas-inspired honky-tonk steakhouse Star Rover Sound in Nashville and from Fry’s childhood memories of an old-school Texas steakhouse.

🔪 Dinner is offered nightly, with brunch served on the weekends. The menu centers includes traditional steakhouse fare, with guests selecting their preferred cut, each accompanied by a crisp salad, warm buttermilk rolls and fries and onion rings for the table. 🍟 Dessert includes house-made pies such as coconut, chocolate chess and apple, alongside a “fancy” soft serve.

🍸 The beverage program balances classic and playful, from a Filthy Martini and a Frozen Jack & Coke to a House Margarita, plus ice-cold beer, wine and nonalcoholic options.

La Lucha remains open and unaffected by the changes.

🍸 Opening this December on Lower Westheimer, 1111 is the newest cocktail bar from hospitality partners Army Sadeghi and Brandon Duliakas, the team behind Melrose. At the center of the concept is 2024 James Beard Best Chef Texas Award nominee chef Emmanuel Chavez, whose restaurant Tatemó is one of Houston’s few to earn a Michelin star. Chavez has created a menu of small plates and shareable dishes, including wagyu empanaditas, tuna tostadas and Contramar-style grilled whole fish with house-made tortillas.

🥃 The bar itself spans 26 feet and will introduce Houston’s first omakase-style cocktail stations, where guests interact directly with bartenders as drinks are prepared. The cocktail program, developed with international consultants, will rotate seasonal ingredients, infusions and bespoke creations.

🌎 Designed with input from an international studio, 1111’s interiors feature sculptural forms, custom lighting and a cenote-inspired centerpiece. The venue will join neighbors such as Drake’s Hollywood, Uchi and Nando’s in a revitalized stretch of Montrose.

🍔 As the star of Kitchen Rumors' new all-day happy hour, executive chef Jassi Bindra has debuted a Paratha Smash Burger featuring two smashed Texas Wagyu patties layered with melted cheese, caramelized grilled onions and smashburger sauce. The beef is enveloped in a golden, flaky paratha, its buttery, layered texture offering a rich counterpoint to the charred, juicy edges of the patties.

🍟 Each order is accompanied by @KahaniSocialGroup signature Balle Balle Fries, dusted with Indian spices and served with Naughty Sauce — a creamy, spiced, cilantro and avocado-based sauce, adding a fresh, vibrant kick to every bite. 🌿 The launch exemplifies the group’s inventive, globally inspired approach to flavor.

🆕️ It's available starting Sunday, October 19 as part of the restaurant's all-day happy hour, which is now offered Sundays through Thursdays (closed on Mondays) at the bar and on the patio.

🍸 The menu also features five cocktails priced at $8, discounted wines, beer and other small bites such as Pok Pok Po Chicken Sliders ($9), Crispy Kale with wasabi white peas, onion, tomato, tamarind and mint chutney ($8), Sichuan Eggplant and more.

🔥 We genuinely loved every bite and sip we got to sample. The flavors are big, tantalizing and layered and the prices are thusly kind of unbelievable. I highly recommend it for your next happy hour destination.

🥪 Yuma is now open, bringing chef Mike Hartley and Miriam Leek-Meira's long-awaited Brazilian-inspired Cuban sandwich concept to a brick-and-mortar on Washington Avenue.

🍴 @HoustonFoodFinder was invited to preview its offerings, and despite being brand new, Yuma already feels like an old friend with welcoming hospitality, memorable food and drinks, and an industry-friendly atmosphere. 👌🏽

🥖 Yuma specializes in Cubanos made with house-baked bread and scratch ingredients. There's a classic version as well as signature flavors such as the Sampa Gallo with chicken tinga, a vegetarian version with tostones, black bean purée and mustard greens, and El Penny, a mashup of a bánh mì and a Cubano that captures the best of both worlds. 🌿

🥩 The standout was A Caipira, a Brazilian-inspired steak sandwich with picanha, Gruyère, catupiry cheese, sautéed onions and chimichurri. Rich without being heavy, it's the sort of sandwich that keeps pulling you back for another bite.

🌶 Speaking of chimichurri, Yuma's version packs plenty of spice and vibrant herb flavor, and it's served alongside the addictive Pastel de Bife. These crisp, fried Brazilian pastries resemble oversized ravioli or gourmet pizza rolls stuffed with seasoned beef, making them an ideal bar snack.

🧀 Other bar bites we enjoyed include the pão de queijo which are crisp on the outside, airy and chewy inside, with plenty of cheesy flavor. The coxinha are equally worth ordering. Shaped like little drumsticks, these tasty little Brazilian croquettes are filled with shredded chicken and cheese before being breaded and fried until golden.

The menu also includes crispy tostones, yuca frita and ham-and-cheese croquetas, all of which make excellent drinking snacks.

🍹 The cocktail menu focuses on refreshing rum and cachaça creations inspired by Brazil and Cuba, while a concise but thoughtfully curated wine list and a creative zero proof selection offers something for nearly every sandwich on the menu. 🍷

Initial hours are 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesday through Monday, with lunch and a late-night to-go window planned for the future.

🥃 Donna’s is now open in the Heights. The new bar, located in the former Ready Room space on White Oak, comes from a partnership between Bobby Heugel and Jacki Schromm.

Hospitality is placed at the center of the experience, with a room designed to invite quiet conversation, reel-to-reel music recordings, casual meetings and neighborly connections.

🍹 Signature cocktail options include citrus vodka brightened with raspberry and lime in the Disco Raspberry Limeade, rye whiskey with strawberry, toasted coconut and pineapple in the Rye-Ami Vice, or blanco tequila lifted by a garden cordial in the Sound Garden. 🍸 Classics are interpreted through the bar’s lens, whether in Jacki’s Martini, built with equal parts Plymouth gin and Dolin vermouth accented by Cocchi Americano and a lil Parmesan-and-olive garnish, or in the Sloe Gin Fizz, where grapefruit and lemon meet a soft crown of egg white and soda. 🍋

🧊 More meditative compositions are offered as well, such as Good Will, where bourbon is infused with miso and banana then finished with chocolate bitters, or Tuesday Breakdown, which layers Irish whiskey with bitter vermouth and Fernet mente. Each drink is crafted to feel intentional, lasting and comfortably familiar, reflecting the bar’s dedication to creating a space where community is quietly fostered one glass at a time.

🕔 Open daily from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.

✨Happy 14th Birthday ✨
There’s something about a crêperie that feels timeless… 💙
simple ingredients, delicate technique, and a space designed for slowing down.

Last night, I stepped into that feeling at @sweetparis birthday soirée, where French café culture meets a little bit of Houston charm. From sweet and savory crêpes to whimsical birthday bites, espresso, and bubbly… every detail felt light, thoughtful, and just a little indulgent.

Crêpes themselves date back centuries in France traditionally enjoyed in small cafés as an everyday luxury. And that’s what makes concepts like this so special… they take something rooted in culture and make it approachable, something you can experience any day of the week.

It’s easy to see why Sweet Paris has remained a favorite consistent for 14 years here, inviting, and built around moments like these.

Celebrating all weekend, they’re continuing the celebration with a special birthday menu and a limited experience for guests to join in. Swag bags for first 100 guests on Saturday, a special birthday menu, and a few sweet surprises.
✨✨the waffle was my favorite.✨✨✨

A little Paris, right here in Houston. ✨

🍔 The Heights location of Houston burger favorite burgerchan is now open!

🆕️ The new restaurant marks the second location for the locally popular burger concept, which first launched near the Galleria in 2016. The Heights outpost officially opened this week inside the approximately 3,000-square-foot building formerly occupied by Be More Pacific, which closed earlier this year after a lengthy run.

The menu features the same highly customizable menu that helped build the brand’s following, including build-your-own burgers with multiple patty options, buns, cheeses, sauces and Asian-influenced ingredients. The Heights location also includes a more extensive cocktail and bar program, including Japanese-inspired drinks. 🍹

🕔 Operating hours currently include kitchen service until 10 p.m. on Thursdays, with the bar remaining open until 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday hours run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the kitchen and until midnight for the bar, and Sunday service runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fresh off chef @chefevelyngarcia’s appearance on @FoodNetwork’s “Beat Bobby Flay,” another James Beard Award-winning Houston chef is taking him on. Chef Thomas Bille (@ChefThomas812) of Belly Of The Beast (@BOTBFood) appears on the “Mole Mania” episode on Tuesday, August 4 at 7 p.m. Central. Bille’s creative moles are among his culinary strengths, so he should be a formidable competitor.

Also appearing on the episode is actor Jeff Hiller and chef Amanda Freitag, who recruit Bille and chef Keegan Andrews of ATX Cocina to “cook up a spicy dose of defeat for @BobbyFlay.” The judges are Alex Stupak, Lourdes Castro and Grace Ramirez.

A social media message posted by Belly Of The Beast says, “This opportunity represents so much more than a television appearance. It’s a chance to share the heart of Belly of the Beast, our community, and everyone who has supported us from the very beginning.
We can’t wait to watch with all of you.”
