Flu is still everywhere ! Parents are still surprised when I tell them the MOST important thing to help their child feel better and decrease flu symptoms … Proper Hydration! Flu causes water loss 3 ways: 1️⃣Fever and increased respiratory rate burns through body water stores 2️⃣inflammation drives less intake and nausea 3️⃣inflammation drives capillary leak Here’s is the part parents NEED to understand - choosing a balanced Oral Rehydration Solution is the key to replacing the fluids lost and improving symptoms Kids bodies move Glucose and Sodium first into the blood and water is pilled behind. Straight water alone without the proper electrolyte does NOT get into the blood as efficiently and than can’t get to the cells @cure is what I recommend to ALL my patients : it is a balanced ORS, clean ingredients without added sugar , dyes or artificial flavors , it tastes good so sick kids will will drink it ! 💩 Don’t be offended, but you’re probably managing diarrhea wrong. Here are the 4 simple steps to doing it RIGHT and keeping your child out of the ER: 1️⃣ Rehydrate (first 3–4 hours): Start with a balanced ORS like @cure to rehydrate over 3–4 hours. 💧 Give approx: • 20 lbs → 1 liter • 40 lbs → 2 liters • 60 lbs → 3 liters 2️⃣ Replace ongoing losses: Every time your child has diarrhea, they lose fluids again so you need to keep replacing those. 💩 After each loose stool: • Under 20 lbs → give 2–4 oz of ORS • Over 20 lbs → give 4–8 oz of ORS This helps maintain hydration after the initial rehydration phase For both steps 1 & 2, we use and love @cure kids. No artificial dyes or flavors, no added sugar, pediatrician-formulated, and kids actually drink it! 3️⃣ Gut support: • Zinc: 5–10 mg daily • S. Bouldarii probiotic (shown to reduce duration and severity) 4️⃣ Skip the BRAT diet! No need to restrict food, just return to your child’s regular diet as soon as they can tolerate it. You’ve got this!
