My favourite is when she’s so sleepy but feels like she has to swing by anyway 🐱 ✨

I realised the other week that I never showed how I wake up in the morning. It’s such a small part of my day but it’s always so joyful! My husband wakes up super early so he always gets up with the animals first whilst I sleep in and Mog waits as close to the hatch as she can- sometimes even sleeping 😴 Until my husband brings up my coffee for me to gently wake me up. No matter the day or even if she’s sleeping soundly Mog my calico cat always runs up to greet me and have a cuddle 🥹

Sometimes I’m lucky enough for my husband to carry Moo our Basset Hound up to me too so we can all snuggle in bed together. Like I said it’s such a small thing but it makes me feel really loved every morning 🐱 🐶

Ad I feel like I blinked and my senior cat Mango turned 12! I can’t believe how fast the time has flown by. These days she likes to switch between snoozing the day away and still having those kitten-like antics that make me really happy to see. Mango has an interesting story- she was born in the bottom of a wardrobe and I got a call to say would I take in a little kitten in need. I like to say she came to me through the magical cat distribution system because I wasn’t looking for a cat at all at the time. When she was a kitten I fed her @purinauki and I’m now treating her to the same senior food! So we’ve really come full circle and I couldn’t be happier that there’s still a spring in her step and I’m enjoying so many snuggles with her. When we installed this loft net I had an idea that my cats might enjoy it but I never had any idea just how much Mog would love it! She gets so excited whenever I put it up and one of my little joys in life is laying underneath it and getting to poke her toe beans and ruffle her belly. Which is a game she really enjoys as she likes to try and get me back!

Mog has endless fun watching the birds from the window and swooshing her tail at them (she can’t get them I promise!) She also loves to take naps here and weirdly I think she prefers napping on the net without a blanket underneath!

I’m so happy it’s an extra spot in our small home for her to climb and play on and glad she loves spending time on the loft net just as much as I do!

This is a comment I get quite often! Whilst I think decor decisions can definitely be something you both have input on in a home, saying your husband would never LET you is something else entirely! It reminds me of one of my first boyfriends who wouldn’t ‘let’ me have blonde hair because it got me ‘too much attention from other men’- I dyed it dark brown for him because I was 18 and stupid and not only did he break up with me less than a month later but my hair started falling out when I subsequently dyed it back blonde 😅

I’m lucky enough to have a husband that knows how much it means to me to be creative in our home and he loves what I love because he knows how happy it makes me. So he’s happy with any of my design choices. I’m about to take on his office renovation this year and I know he completely trusts me on my choices for it.

Don’t even get me started on men who won’t allow a trace of pink in their homes as if it’s about to make them break out in hives!

The only right way to store your baguettes 🥖 🐟

I made some flower fairy bread bags a little while back that store small loafs, rolls and bagels perfectly! But they couldn’t fit my baguettes in so I wanted to come up with a new way of storing them. I saw an incredible pattern online for a sardine pillow on @etsy and thought it would be perfect for baguettes with a couple of tweaks! This was also really fun because I could use my scrap fabrics to make a patchwork sardine 🐟

I’m going to be making baguettes every week now just so I can use this! I will outline all the details below if you’d like to make your own. But essentially with the pattern I opted out of ‘filling’ the sardine pillow as my baguette would fill it. I kept the mouth open and instead of a pointed mouth I did a rectangle then added a channel and drawstring to the top to fasten it shut 🥰

I’m someone who constantly wants to learn how to do things myself, who loves to sew and garden and bake from scratch because I feel so many of us are disconnected from this way of life. I love it because it makes me learn how much goes in to these ‘every day’ things like making clothes, growing food and cooking food from scratch. But in this present moment because I do like to do these things I’m being mistaken for a ‘tradwife’ left and right and to add to that I’m also very feminine and love to wear dresses which also doesn’t seem to help currently 😅

You used to be a bit of a hippie if you loved to garden, forage, cook from scratch, had a small holding, make your own clothes etc! I’d like those of us who live a life of those hippie ideals- a life full of peace and love for all to reclaim our rightful position in this space!

You don’t need to be ‘tradwife’ to do these things, you can just do them without submission to one’s husband required! I’ll specifiy here because I always find this argument is used to shut conversations down, I’m not targeting this towards any stay at home Mums or wives that like to take up traditional duties in the home. That’s something else entirely to this ‘tradwife’ movement. The movement that thinks a woman’s ‘rightful’ place is in the home. A woman’s ‘rightful’ place is wherever she wants to be without any implication that *all* woman should be living in the same way.

The future potential buyers won’t appreciate my whimsy ☺️✨

Unless your a house flipper (which is a far cry from what my page is about) then you really don’t need to spend your life worrying about ‘future buyers’. What if you never decorate how you want and get stuck in your current home for the next 20 years because of any reason really- illness, career, kids etc! Then you’ve spent 20 years in a home that’s never felt like your own because you’ve been worrying about an imaginary future buyer.

I had this home valued once and I asked the estate agent if my whimsical taste would put off any future buyers and he said not at all. That buyers will most likely want to change the kitchen and bathroom anyway to suit their taste and unless you’ve done crazy things like moving walls to ridiculous places then you will be fine. If it ever came to it I’d paint the walls back to white- not like it would take long or be much effort when it comes to selling.

I get endless joy from transforming my home which has completely improved my mental health over the years as well as enjoying the finished product. You can’t put a price on that really!

Then you’ve spent 20 years in a home that’s never felt like your own because you’ve been worrying about an imaginary future buyer. Building a whimsical stained glass potting shed ✨

I am so excited to finally get this project started! I have had so many hurdles to overcome this Winter from freezing temperatures to non-stop rain with no end in sight! It’s finally Spring and finally time to get this done and more exciting for you all because there will be no waiting around to see it finished now!

This incredible potting shed is the ‘woodsman’s shed’ by @waltons_garden and I adore it so much! I love that it’s split in two for storage and then another side for your greenhouse.

I was really inspired by Swedish houses for the colour and think I also want to paint the inside yellow! I found some beautiful salvaged stained glass to fit on the door and wall on the inside which I’m so excited about 🥹 It’s also going to have a handmade sheep bench! As well as patchwork blinds!

I’m on the hunt for the right flooring to go on top of the chipboard and I also need to decide what to grow in the greenhouse section. Any ideas?

I get asked why I care so much about America as someone that doesn’t live there. I mean not only did I care enough to study the US, its history and political system for my degree. And aside from the fact that I think we should care for others all over the world, no matter where they live. I’ve also built a huge American audience over the years and I don’t take that lightly, they are my community and I care for them very much. Yes even the ones who will be reading this post with distain and venom, I do not want to see you get hurt either. I do not want you to realise too late what’s actually happening. I wish you would wake up sooner though. This quote from George Orwell’s 1984 could not be any more relevant than it is right now.

Fascism comes quietly at first- that is when it doesn’t seem to be effecting you specifically. It relies on silence, I know my German followers will tell you it’s not an overnight takeover and we need to learn this and learn it fast. It’s biggest power is fear, they want you to be fearful of your neighbours and they want you to to not fight back.

Gaining such a large following as a content creator was never something I could have foreseen. I was a politics student at the time I started to grow on here (specialising in US politics). At the time I thought I would do some good in the world- maybe teaching young people history and politics. As time went on I realised how much happier I was being creative, to be working on projects physically and how much I loved social media and I pivoted careers in a totally different direction.

Ironically in a way maybe I have more ‘power’ now having a large platform. Maybe just telling people where I stand politically has power. My videos seem to get suppressed if I talk about politics more directly but these type of videos usually get the word out still. It’s not much but I believe I should stand for the things I believe in as a content creator.

Fascism comes quietly at first- that is when it doesn’t seem to be effecting you specifically. It relies on silence, I know my German followers will tell you it’s not an overnight takeover and we need to learn this and learn it fast. It’s biggest power is fear, they want you to be fearful of your neighbours and they want you to to not fight back. Gaining such a large following as a content creator was never something I could have foreseen. I was a politics student at the time I started to grow on here (specialising in US politics). At the time I thought I would do some good in the world- maybe teaching young people history and politics. As time went on I realised how much happier I was being creative, to be working on projects physically and how much I loved social media and I pivoted careers in a totally different direction. Ironically in a way maybe I have more ‘power’ now having a large platform. Maybe just telling people where I stand politically has power. My videos seem to get suppressed if I talk about politics more directly but these type of videos usually get the word out still. I’ve wanted to repaint this door for a while, I did it when I first got in to painting my woodwork and it was a little wonky! I’ve had a bit of practice since then and I really wanted to add a pop of red to match the wonderful wallpaper border by @tessnewallstudio 🫶 Can you tell her beautiful work has really inspired some areas of my home!

I thought some strawberries to go alongside the new red door frame would work so well and I really adore it. I also love that I wasn’t lonely whilst I painted- there’s always an animal or three by my side in this home. But it’s lovely to have company when crafting 🍓 ✨

The most whimsical addition to my vegetable garden🦋 ✨ I’ve been in need of a seat for my little vegetable garden for some time and I can’t believe I found the most perfect bench ever 🥹 There is no end to the joy this is going to bring me and I also love how my husband made me stand with the wings behind me and the antennae above my head! I will never be able to be without one of these in any future home! I think a lot of people assume it’s just a Summer thing to have the window open on the loft net and have a nap on a warm day. But actually I love wrapping up in Winter and being up here too, it’s even more cosy with all the duvets and extra blankets!

There’s no lovelier place than to journal, read, enjoy movies or just watch the world go by. This project really taught me that with a little imagination you can achieve some really magical things in a home- even when working with a small space! ✨

My rug has been on its last legs for some time! It’s taken a real battering over the years from having two cats and a dog and it even had to deal with a young puppy! I also think it just wasn’t the most hard wearing material for my household and a bit of a hassle to get stains out of.

I have loved @mrsaliceshop for some time and they’ve just done the most whimsical collaboration with @ruggable and I don’t think this rug could be any more perfect for my living room. It’s also a huge hit with my animals who have taken plenty of naps on it already and that’s the most important part right?

Sometimes it feels like you’ve entered the set of The Wicker Man 🔥 🌱

This celebration was for ‘Jack in the Green’ which takes place in Hastings. It celebrates the arrival of Spring and the return of Summer. We’ve been able to trace it back as early as the 16th century when the milkmaids would parade on May Day with foliage gardens on their heads and milk pails decorated with flowers and ribbons. In the 17th century the chimney sweeps took it over and created the ‘Jack’ who’s basically a walking bush! There are lots of celebrations like this throughout England all over the calendar year and it makes me really happy to go them, it’s a part of my English identity that I actually am proud of!

I often think that racism and bigotry in England comes in part from a deep disconnection with our roots. It’s not that our cultural identity isn’t celebrated- but you do need to know where to look! Often the ‘wrong’ things are celebrated, I remember being at school and learning about the British Empire and it was genuinely taught as something we should be proud of. Of course that’s changed a lot now, when I used to work in a high school the curriculum was VERY different.

I definitely recommend heading to ‘Jack in the Green’ if you ever get the chance to 🫶
