she gets to nap, watch the birds and be a demon spawn all at the same time ✨
When we installed this loft net I had an idea that my cats might enjoy it but I never had any idea just how much Mog would love it! She gets so excited whenever I put it up and one of my little joys in life is laying underneath it and getting to poke her toe beans and ruffle her belly. Which is a game she really enjoys as she likes to try and get me back!
Mog has endless fun watching the birds from the window and swooshing her tail at them (she can’t get them I promise!) She also loves to take naps here and weirdly I think she prefers napping on the net without a blanket underneath!
I’m so happy it’s an extra spot in our small home for her to climb and play on and glad she loves spending time on the loft net just as much as I do!

ad Creating a joyful home isn’t just for me and my husband – it’s just as important for my cats too 🐱✨
That’s why I always make sure their space feels just as loved as the rest of the house. With help from @evercleanuk, their litter station is fresh, comfortable and somewhere they’re happy to use every day.
Their litter area had seen better days, so I gave it a sunny yellow refresh to match the rest of my cheerful home ☀️
Litter is such an important part of a cat’s wellbeing, and my girls can be very fussy. They’ve turned their noses up at some litters before, but they’re always happy with @evercleanuk. Now that they’re 7 and 13, they use the litter more often which can cause stronger smells. Ever Clean Senior Cat litter has advanced odour control which locks away stronger odours plus the softer granules are much more comfortable for their paws.
It clumps easily and helps keep their space fresh, which makes a big difference in a busy home with cats 🐱 I’m so happy they love their refreshed little corner!

This is a comment I get quite often! Whilst I think decor decisions can definitely be something you both have input on in a home, saying your husband would never LET you is something else entirely! It reminds me of one of my first boyfriends who wouldn’t ‘let’ me have blonde hair because it got me ‘too much attention from other men’- I dyed it dark brown for him because I was 18 and stupid and not only did he break up with me less than a month later but my hair started falling out when I subsequently dyed it back blonde 😅
I’m lucky enough to have a husband that knows how much it means to me to be creative in our home and he loves what I love because he knows how happy it makes me. So he’s happy with any of my design choices. I’m about to take on his office renovation this year and I know he completely trusts me on my choices for it.
Don’t even get me started on men who won’t allow a trace of pink in their homes as if it’s about to make them break out in hives!

The only right way to store your baguettes 🥖 🐟
I made some flower fairy bread bags a little while back that store small loafs, rolls and bagels perfectly! But they couldn’t fit my baguettes in so I wanted to come up with a new way of storing them. I saw an incredible pattern online for a sardine pillow on @etsy and thought it would be perfect for baguettes with a couple of tweaks! This was also really fun because I could use my scrap fabrics to make a patchwork sardine 🐟
I’m going to be making baguettes every week now just so I can use this! I will outline all the details below if you’d like to make your own. But essentially with the pattern I opted out of ‘filling’ the sardine pillow as my baguette would fill it. I kept the mouth open and instead of a pointed mouth I did a rectangle then added a channel and drawstring to the top to fasten it shut 🥰

my house wouldn’t be a home without them 🐶 🐱 🐈⬛
I grew up with both cats and dogs and it was a dream of mine to have both in my adult life. I feel as you walk through life it’s full of people picking a ‘side’. But I think each species are so special and unique and I could never pick one of the other. It makes me so happy that even if I leave the house for a few minutes they all like to run to the door to see me. I feel so honoured that I get to share my home and life with them ✨
It’s hard to put in to words just how special pets are 🥹

The future potential buyers won’t appreciate my whimsy ☺️✨
Unless your a house flipper (which is a far cry from what my page is about) then you really don’t need to spend your life worrying about ‘future buyers’. What if you never decorate how you want and get stuck in your current home for the next 20 years because of any reason really- illness, career, kids etc! Then you’ve spent 20 years in a home that’s never felt like your own because you’ve been worrying about an imaginary future buyer.
I had this home valued once and I asked the estate agent if my whimsical taste would put off any future buyers and he said not at all. That buyers will most likely want to change the kitchen and bathroom anyway to suit their taste and unless you’ve done crazy things like moving walls to ridiculous places then you will be fine. If it ever came to it I’d paint the walls back to white- not like it would take long or be much effort when it comes to selling.
I get endless joy from transforming my home which has completely improved my mental health over the years as well as enjoying the finished product. You can’t put a price on that really!

Saving the frogs from the drought- Part 1 🐸🫧🪷
I’ve kind of known this ‘pond’ I inherited from the former owner was likely to have been a former cold frame and was full of glass. That’s just because of the sheer amount of glass I’ve found around the edge over time but the frogs had still made it their home!
Because of the drought in England drying up all the water I decided to use this as my opportunity to move quickly and clear it out before I refilled again. Make sure if you are ever building a wildlife pond that you either use rain water or if you are pushed for time use some pond conditioner that will protect the frogs from the trace amounts of chlorine that’s in our tap water (it can be deadly for them).
Next I’m looking to add lots of plants like water lilies and water iris, add some native critters that will build a lovely ecosystem and make the area lovely and whimsy around the outside.
At the minute the frogs still hate me but hopefully they forgive me soon!

Building a whimsical stained glass potting shed ✨
I am so excited to finally get this project started! I have had so many hurdles to overcome this Winter from freezing temperatures to non-stop rain with no end in sight! It’s finally Spring and finally time to get this done and more exciting for you all because there will be no waiting around to see it finished now!
This incredible potting shed is the ‘woodsman’s shed’ by @waltons_garden and I adore it so much! I love that it’s split in two for storage and then another side for your greenhouse.
I was really inspired by Swedish houses for the colour and think I also want to paint the inside yellow! I found some beautiful salvaged stained glass to fit on the door and wall on the inside which I’m so excited about 🥹 It’s also going to have a handmade sheep bench! As well as patchwork blinds!
I’m on the hunt for the right flooring to go on top of the chipboard and I also need to decide what to grow in the greenhouse section. Any ideas?

Hardware edition ✨ 🔑
I wanted to create a new little series where I outline some things I’ve done to add some more whimsy to this little 1882 home of mine! It’s often in the smallest of details that we find a huge amount of impact. We can often overlook such small bits of hardware like plug sockets, hinges or handles but I promise they can go a long way in the overall look and feel of a room.

the rest of the world is watching America
I get asked why I care so much about America as someone that doesn’t live there. I mean not only did I care enough to study the US, its history and political system for my degree. And aside from the fact that I think we should care for others all over the world, no matter where they live. I’ve also built a huge American audience over the years and I don’t take that lightly, they are my community and I care for them very much. Yes even the ones who will be reading this post with distain and venom, I do not want to see you get hurt either. I do not want you to realise too late what’s actually happening. I wish you would wake up sooner though. This quote from George Orwell’s 1984 could not be any more relevant than it is right now.
Fascism comes quietly at first- that is when it doesn’t seem to be effecting you specifically. It relies on silence, I know my German followers will tell you it’s not an overnight takeover and we need to learn this and learn it fast. It’s biggest power is fear, they want you to be fearful of your neighbours and they want you to to not fight back.
Gaining such a large following as a content creator was never something I could have foreseen. I was a politics student at the time I started to grow on here (specialising in US politics). At the time I thought I would do some good in the world- maybe teaching young people history and politics. As time went on I realised how much happier I was being creative, to be working on projects physically and how much I loved social media and I pivoted careers in a totally different direction.
Ironically in a way maybe I have more ‘power’ now having a large platform. Maybe just telling people where I stand politically has power. My videos seem to get suppressed if I talk about politics more directly but these type of videos usually get the word out still. It’s not much but I believe I should stand for the things I believe in as a content creator.

Sometimes it feels like you’ve entered the set of The Wicker Man 🔥 🌱
This celebration was for ‘Jack in the Green’ which takes place in Hastings. It celebrates the arrival of Spring and the return of Summer. We’ve been able to trace it back as early as the 16th century when the milkmaids would parade on May Day with foliage gardens on their heads and milk pails decorated with flowers and ribbons. In the 17th century the chimney sweeps took it over and created the ‘Jack’ who’s basically a walking bush! There are lots of celebrations like this throughout England all over the calendar year and it makes me really happy to go them, it’s a part of my English identity that I actually am proud of!
I often think that racism and bigotry in England comes in part from a deep disconnection with our roots. It’s not that our cultural identity isn’t celebrated- but you do need to know where to look! Often the ‘wrong’ things are celebrated, I remember being at school and learning about the British Empire and it was genuinely taught as something we should be proud of. Of course that’s changed a lot now, when I used to work in a high school the curriculum was VERY different.
I definitely recommend heading to ‘Jack in the Green’ if you ever get the chance to 🫶

Turning my neglected pond in to a whimsical wildlife paradise- Part 2 🐸✨
Last week this old neglected pond completely dried up in the drought and as it was a bit of a nightmare for wildlife I needed to act quickly. This old pond I inherited from the former owner was FULL of broken glass as I think it was once a cold frame and had filled up with water naturally over the years. As it had dried up I took this as my opportunity to clear it out and make it into somewhere much nicer for wildlife.
Carpet moss seemed like the perfect idea to coat around the outside and I hope it grows and joins together. I made sure to add some pea shingle to the bottom as well as rocks and some hideouts.
Next week I’m looking at adding some pond snails to give the pond the most perfect ecosystem as they are great at eating the algae and keeping the water clean. I’m also going to add a ramp and a fountain!
After that I need to decide what to do with the outside? A mosaic maybe? We shall see!

The loft net through all the seasons ☀️ 🌧️ ❄️
I will never be able to be without one of these in any future home! I think a lot of people assume it’s just a Summer thing to have the window open on the loft net and have a nap on a warm day. But actually I love wrapping up in Winter and being up here too, it’s even more cosy with all the duvets and extra blankets!
There’s no lovelier place than to journal, read, enjoy movies or just watch the world go by. This project really taught me that with a little imagination you can achieve some really magical things in a home- even when working with a small space! ✨

Poor baby is still battling pneumonia so only the best treatment for sweet Moo 🐶
That was honestly one of the scariest 10 days of my life! It’s been a bit of a rubbish year health wise for my little family, my husband got really sick a few months back and had to have surgery due to internal bleeding (Crohn’s disease). I thought that would maybe be our bad luck for the year but it turns out it wasn’t over yet.
Moo went in for a routine spay and unfortunately had a bad reaction to the anti-inflammatory medication she was prescribed. She caught HGE and was in a really bad way having to be hospitalised with fluids and round the clock care but it also turned out that around the same time she had aspirated during her spay surgery and caught pneumonia. So as symptoms started to subside for one condition, the other started to appear. We very nearly lost her if we hadn’t got her to the emergency vets for the second time when we did.
She has a particularly nasty case of pneumonia so although she’s allowed home after her hospital stay we are on a long course of antibiotics and weekly check ins until she gets better. She deserves only the princess treatment for the foreseeable and for forever!
I’ve had so much support via my messages whilst I’ve been updating you all on the situation via my stories and I’m forever grateful. It got me and my husband through a really scary time 🥹 #princess #den #canopy #bassethound #whimsy #whimsical #fairy #fairycore

An 1882 cottage with a big emphasis on character ✨
Adding a sense of whimsy is definitely my main design objective! I want my spaces to feel practical and serene whilst also making sure they retain plenty of character. Honouring my homes original style and layout is really important to me, I actually love the small cosy rooms and I’m in the process of opening up fireplace walls that have been previously been filled in. I love finding antique hardware, stained glass and items that speak to the time my home was built but I also love carving out a home that works functionally for me, my husband and pets. A hanging loft net isn’t very ‘Victorian’ but it sure is fun for us!
I live in a small house in the city but that’s really been my strength! Not only has it made me more creative (when you have smaller rooms you have to think outside the box about how everything works and comes together) but it’s also made me never have to worry about designing a home for a future buyer instead of myself. Homes get snapped up so quickly here that it’s just not been a worry.
Initially when I moved in I didn’t see the potential in this house at all and neither did my husband. We saw it as just out foot on the property ladder and not much else- we were so wrong!

The mini loft net under the window was the best addition 🐱 ✨
When we created the loft net for us to sit on I knew I wanted to add a mini one for our cats! Of course they could use the huge one for humans too but I thought it would be so cosy if they got their own and they love it so much. They’ve spent many years enjoying it now on gloomy days and sun-filled ones too! They love to watch the birds and the raindrops especially and I’m so happy they have such a lovely little spot to do that from.
It’s one of life’s little joys to watch them on this whilst I enjoy my coffee in the morning or curled up with my herbal tea in bed at night 🥹✨

I can’t wait to see this covered in all the weird and wonky types of squash 🌱
This was so much fun to build, only takes a few hours and I was lucky to have my husband help me on the bank holiday ☺️ I’m sowing lots of magnificent squash varieties at the moment and will be planting them out when they are big and strong and able to cope with the British weather!
Most of this arch is made up of goat willow tree branches that we had to cut back on my vegetable plot to give us more light to grow. So it’s so cool they’ve been repurposed for this!
Please leave all your squash growing tips in the comments- I hope this arch is covered by late Summer!

My house: whimsical Christmas edition ✨
It took a little longer for me to feel festive this year but I finally feel ready for Christmas! I’ve had a fun time decorating this year, paper and foraged garlands are my favourite to use around my home. The treehouse attic looks like a magical grotto with all the garlands hanging from the rafters ☺️
I think online there can be a bit of a rush to step in to the next season and I get why people like to look ahead but for me personally I end up not enjoying the moment if I do that! So my decorations don’t come down and I don’t stop celebrating the festive period until the first week of January. I think we all deserve to stay in the joy as much as possible this year ✨

a love letter to my whimsical hallway mirror ✨ 🐦
Almost everyone in the household had to be involved in this mirror installation and it’s no surprise because a brass carved mirror to look like a tree and adorned with birds is a very special mirror indeed! My senior black cat Mango decided a nap was far superior to this though- so we are only missing her!
I’ll be so real with you too I got this mirror from the kids section but it was so beautiful that I needed it for my hallway. I’ve actually spent nearly two years searching for the perfect mirror and it was so funny to find it in the kids home section 😅
I feel like this reel really encapsulates what it’s like to be a fly on the wall in our home! 🐶 🐱

As a summer lover I think I finally get it ✨🎃🌙
I used to struggle so desperately with this time of year, I’ve always struggled so much when the seasons change and the days get really dark and gloomy. I really need to feel the sun on my face! But as I’ve got older I’ve learned to lean in to the seasons as much as possible and try to experience the magic of each one as best I can.
I have to say I’ve really come to love this time of year when Autumn hits, knitting and reading and cosying up by the fire are some of my favourite things about it. I also love to forage mushrooms and warm up in a hot bath after a rainy dog walk.
The time of year I still really struggle with is January-March! If anyone has any advice for how to come to love that time of year I really need it. The cold and the dark days in England do not speak to my soul!
