My favourite is when she’s so sleepy but feels like she has to swing by anyway 🐱 ✨ I realised the other week that I never showed how I wake up in the morning. It’s such a small part of my day but it’s always so joyful! My husband wakes up super early so he always gets up with the animals first whilst I sleep in and Mog waits as close to the hatch as she can- sometimes even sleeping 😴 Until my husband brings up my coffee for me to gently wake me up. No matter the day or even if she’s sleeping soundly Mog my calico cat always runs up to greet me and have a cuddle 🥹 Sometimes I’m lucky enough for my husband to carry Moo our Basset Hound up to me too so we can all snuggle in bed together. Manifesting this for everyone ✨ I don’t know about you all but it’s unfortunate that for a lot of us we have had some points in our lives where someone’s mood has controlled the entire vibe of a home. The worst thing is it becomes normalised and even enabled by the people around them. I think this is why my home means so much to me and why I’m so passionate about creating a whimsical and cosy home to retreat in. It’s hard to explain to someone just how difficult it is to be constantly walking on eggshells in your own home, whether it’s a partner, parent or even a sibling. Whilst I think decor decisions can definitely be something you both have input on in a home, saying your husband would never LET you is something else entirely! It reminds me of one of my first boyfriends who wouldn’t ‘let’ me have blonde hair because it got me ‘too much attention from other men’- I dyed it dark brown for him because I was 18 and stupid and not only did he break up with me less than a month later but my hair started falling out when I subsequently dyed it back blonde 😅 I’m lucky enough to have a husband that knows how much it means to me to be creative in our home and he loves what I love because he knows how happy it makes me. I remember when these hobbies used to make you a ‘hippie’ not a ‘tradwife’ 🫶 I’m someone who constantly wants to learn how to do things myself, who loves to sew and garden and bake from scratch because I feel so many of us are disconnected from this way of life. I love it because it makes me learn how much goes in to these ‘every day’ things like making clothes, growing food and cooking food from scratch. But in this present moment because I do like to do these things I’m being mistaken for a ‘tradwife’ left and right and to add to that I’m also very feminine and love to wear dresses which also doesn’t seem to help currently 😅 You used to be a bit of a hippie if you loved to garden, forage, cook from scratch, had a small holding, make your own clothes etc! I’d like those of us who live a life of those hippie ideals- a life full of peace and love for all to reclaim our rightful position in this space! You don’t need to be ‘tradwife’ to do these things, you can just do them without submission to one’s husband required! I’ll specifiy here because I always find this argument is used to shut conversations down, I’m not targeting this towards any stay at home Mums or wives that like to take up traditional duties in the home. The only right way to store your baguettes 🥖 🐟 I made some flower fairy bread bags a little while back that store small loafs, rolls and bagels perfectly! I saw an incredible pattern online for a sardine pillow on @etsy and thought it would be perfect for baguettes with a couple of tweaks! This was also really fun because I could use my scrap fabrics to make a patchwork sardine 🐟 I’m going to be making baguettes every week now just so I can use this! I will outline all the details below if you’d like to make your own. But essentially with the pattern I opted out of ‘filling’ the sardine pillow as my baguette would fill it. The way he had these commissioned from my favourite pottery artist 🥹 It’s only really recently that I’ve started painting again after being told I wasn’t very good as a teenager and of course I do need plenty of practice but I just adore it. I learnt very quickly though that your paintbrushes are precious and you shouldn’t leave them standing in the water pot! I also wanted something useful I could both mix paint in and pour my paint in to. My husband got me this made for my birthday and it’s so useful, I have somewhere to lay my brushes down whilst I use another as well as having the cutest pallete ever. Although I did get rejected from brownies for keeping woodlouse as pets in my lunchbox and scaring the other girls 💀 I think what I’ve realised is that so many of us women just love to try things and be creative and we aren’t afraid to get stuck in. To think I was once ashamed of my femininity! I often think of the Sylvia Plath fig tree analogy, of all the many paths we can take but having to choose one. Whilst it’s true in a sense, you also CAN pick more than one path in other areas of your life. I’ve never met a single woman that doesn’t have so many different interests and hobbies. I want to learn how to do as many different things as possible. I used to not know how to merge my strong sense of self with the fact I also love to do so many things that are more ‘traditional’ for women to do. I designed this ladder with the cats in mind, creating a stair shape that would be easier for them than your standard ladder. The future potential buyers won’t appreciate my whimsy ☺️✨ Unless your a house flipper (which is a far cry from what my page is about) then you really don’t need to spend your life worrying about ‘future buyers’. What if you never decorate how you want and get stuck in your current home for the next 20 years because of any reason really- illness, career, kids etc! Then you’ve spent 20 years in a home that’s never felt like your own because you’ve been worrying about an imaginary future buyer. I had this home valued once and I asked the estate agent if my whimsical taste would put off any future buyers and he said not at all. That buyers will most likely want to change the kitchen and bathroom anyway to suit their taste and unless you’ve done crazy things like moving walls to ridiculous places then you will be fine. If it ever came to it I’d paint the walls back to white- not like it would take long or be much effort when it comes to selling. I get endless joy from transforming my home which has completely improved my mental health over the years as well as enjoying the finished product. What if you never decorate how you want and get stuck in your current home for the next 20 years because of any reason really- illness, career, kids etc! Then you’ve spent 20 years in a home that’s never felt like your own because you’ve been worrying about an imaginary future buyer. The perfect shape for my homemade bagels 🥯 🌺 ✨ If there’s something I like doing it’s to take the small and mundane every day item like a bread bag and make it whimsical! Because why not make every time you go to eat your bread a magical little ritual? I loved making these flower fairy bags and they are SO quick to make. They would also make the most perfect make up bags so you can see all your make up when you open them 🥹 I think I’m going to add a little flower bud middle with a piece of fabric and a clasp so there are no gaps at all but I love them so much and will definitely make more variations of these! Any magical/whimsical sewing patterns I need to make next? The hanging loft net is the perfect spot to enjoy Spring ☀️ I know the internet seems to really love Autumn/Winter and I totally get why! But I have to say I love the sunshine and I’ve been enjoying it so much. Getting to watch the leaves turn green and the sun shining high in the sky over the city and next door national park is so magical! It’s makes it hard to ever leave ✨ I enjoy my holidays so much but I do find it hard to leave my home behind even just for a little while. I’ve set my home up in such a way that’s it wraps me and my loved ones in a warm hug every time I enter it. It’s especially hard having to leave the pets when I go on my travels because this home is as much about them as it is about me and my husband!
