What does hearing loss have to do with dementia? Here’s what we know 👇

There is a lot of talk linking hearing loss and brain health. The research is growing fast. Fortunately, the connection is more hopeful than scary. 🧡

What does the research actually show? Scientists now view hearing loss as a modifiable risk factor for dementia. It is important to know that hearing loss does not cause dementia. Instead, the data reveals a strong, consistent link between the two conditions.

Experts have three main theories for why this link exists.

1. Listening effort. When hearing is hard, the brain works overtime just to process everyday sound.
2. Reduced stimulation. Less sound input means the brain gets less of a workout over time.
3. Social connection. Harder conversations often lead to social withdrawal, which impacts brain health.

Protecting your hearing today is a powerful way to look after your brain for tomorrow.

Ever wondered how to get rid of "aeroplane ear"?

That uncomfortable popping or pain (we call it 'barotrauma') happens when your ears can’t keep up with rapid altitude changes.

Here are 5 ways to beat the pressure:

🍭 Keep Moving: Chew gum, suck on a lolly, or yawn to open your eustachian tubes.
👂 The Valsalva Manoeuvre: Pinch your nose, close your mouth, and gently blow.
💧 Hydrate: Drinking water helps keep your nasal passages clear.
🥱 Stay Awake: Avoid sleeping during descent so you can swallow and yawn frequently.
🎧 Try Earplugs: Use pressure-filtering earplugs designed for flyers.

Discomfort usually clears within a few hours of landing. If pain persists, it’s best to check in with a professional.

Is the TV volume a source of constant debate in your home? 😩

Our audiologist Sarah has a great tip for clearer, stress-free TV time: the TV Streamer / TV Connector!

📺 This simple accessory plugs into your television and wirelessly streams crystal-clear, personalised audio directly into your hearing aids.
🔊 This means clear sound you can adjust independently, so everyone else stays comfortable with a lower main TV volume.

Stop straining to hear and start enjoying your favourite shows!

What is your favourite sound in the world? 🦻✨

We invited our lovely clients to share their best-loved sounds, and the results were a beautiful reminder of why hearing health matters so much.

A few of our favourite highlights:

🍿 That iconic "Ta-dum" when Netflix starts up.
👣 The pitter-patter of grandkids' feet through the house.
🍾 The celebratory pop of a champagne cork.
🏌️‍♂️ The clean crack of a golf club hitting the ball.
🐦 The peaceful song of birds in the morning.

It was a joy to see these stickers fill our walls, sparking wonderful conversations in our waiting room.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared a moment that matters with us!
