Here’s what i noticed after drinking olive oil + lemon juice shots every day as part of my gut + brain optimization routine 🫒🍋

What I’ve noticed:

1. My stomach just feels… lighter (no random bloating)
2. My skin, my SKIN omggg it truly has my skin glowing and looking more dewy and plump (who doesn’t love that!)
3. Less sugar cravings
4. I feel and look less inflamed
5. Definitely feel more energetic throughout the day 
6. More (and better) bowel movements and bathroom trips… hallelujah 

From a brain health perspective, this makes sense cause olive oil (especially from high-quality source) is full of polyphenols and oleic acid, an omega-9 fatty acid which helps with: 

→ supporting the gut-brain axis
→ stabilizing blood sugar
→ helping reduce inflammation

SAVE this recipe (and share it too) LEMON ARUGULA CACIO E PEPE 🍋🌱🧀 

You guys blew up my stories asking for the the recipe so here it is… @chrissyteigen this is my fave recipe from your Cravings book, still, after all these years omgggg 🤤🍝

🍴 Ingredients:

- 12 oz Dried Spaghetti (you can use cheackpeas pasta if you’re #gluten intolerant or just want less carbs, just know the texture won’t be the same lol)
- 1/4 pound (about 3/4 cup) Pancetta or bacon, finely diced
- 1/4 cup Extra-Virgin Olive oil
- 3 tbsp. Minced garlic - about 4-5 cloves
- 1 tsp. Red pepper flake
- 2 tsp. Black pepper, freshly grated (plus more, to taste)
- 1/4 cup Fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cups Freshly grated Parmeggiano-Reggiano Cheese, plus more for serving
- 3 cups Fresh baby arugula

🍣 OPTIONAL: Add the protein of your choice. i added #salmon for an extra brain health kick!

👩🏽‍🍳 Instructions:

FIRST: In a large pot of heavily salted boiling water, cook the spaghetti to al dente according to the package. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta.

MEANWHILE: In a large skillet, cook the pancetta over medium-high heat until crisp, seven to nine minutes. Add the olive oil, then add the garlic, red pepper flakes, and black pepper; cook until fragrant, about one minute.

THEN: Add the lemon juice to the skillet, then toss in the drained pasta, tossing to coat. Add the Parm and toss, adding the pasta water, a couple of tablespoons at a time, just to help the cheese coat the pasta. NOTE: Don’t OVERDO it with the water! Add the arugula and toss until it wilts, about one minute. 

FINALLY: Season to taste with additional desired amounts of salt, black and red pepper. 

Serve with even more Parm.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to support my parents as they get older… not just being there for them, but actively helping them stay sharp, strong, and independent for as long as possible so they spend less on hospital bills and more in living longer, and happier.

So I’m starting a new series: “Aging Powerfully: The Aging Parents Protocol.”

I’ll be documenting exactly how i support my parents (from what I have them eat, to brain health routines, workouts, movements, supplements, biohacks for longevity), and even the role of connection and joy in protecting their minds from Alzheimer’s.

Regulating nervous system showering *in the dark* (dimmed lights in the amber/red spectrum) has been one of the best things i’ve done for my sleep. It supports my circadian rhythm and allows my body to wind down sooo easily.

It works like magic… but truly, it’s just a simple biohack that you can do too!

I also love adding a relaxing non-toxic eucalyptus shower steamer, and play some jazz, or 432 Hz music and babeeeiiiii i’m so ready for bed 😴

I’ve been very vocal about the importance of #DecolonizingWellness because you can’t tell a Mexican to not eat their Maíz cause grains are ‘inflammatory’. 

You cannot tell a Colombian to not eat their arepas, you cannot tell a Black person with Nigerian roots to not eat their Jollof Rice cause (again) grains 😒

YES, there are so many people out there with actual intolerances, and chronic conditions under which for sure some food groups must be limited. I’m not talking about that.

I’m talking of the ‘one size’ fits all approach and the willful erasure of our cultures that is so pervasive in the (very) whitewashed wellness online world. 

Nobody should be shamed for eating according to their culture. You like meat, eat meat! Do you want to eat according to the famous ‘blue zones’ and be vegetarian, do that! But for the love of God, let other people live their lives cause your truth (and eating preferences) is not universal.
