This class is a must for Boston-area coffee lovers ☕️
I had the best solo adventure at Atomic Coffee Roasters, a North Shore roaster that offers hands-on training at their Peabody facility, just 30 minutes from the city.
In one session, you’ll get a crash course in at-home espresso: dialing in grind size, spotting over and under-extraction, mastering milk texture, and even trying your hand at latte art.
Jonathan made everything approachable and clear (though still tricky in practice) and sent us home with beans and resources to keep practicing.
It’s a fun way to get out of your comfort zone whether you go solo, with a date, or a couple of friends. It also makes a great gift for the holidays if you’re shopping for a coffee lover!

Best study spots and cafés for doing work in Boston and nearby: updated for fall 2025 🍂🍁

Consider this my back to school welcome gift to all the students coming back to Boston this fall! I’ll organize this by city and neighborhood to hopefully make it as helpful as possible and easy to navigate. Save this for the next time you need a study spot but also want to mix up your normal routine and do it somewhere new.

Boston:

Fenway
@heyshybird - work from shy bird here or Southie and get bottomless coffee or matcha plus your breakfast or lunch for $19

@mightysquirrelfenway : An unconventional rec since it’s a brewery, but there’s so much seating and a coffee bar during the morning. I have a few other recs that are breweries

Mission Hill
@tavernoftales during the day

Back Bay and Downtown- a little trickier to find work friendly cafés
@ghowellcoffee - Godfrey Hotel or Lyrik have seating and both would be okay to work from!
@wishingcupco - Gov’t Center
* Boston Public Library of course!

Seaport
@revivalcafeandkitchen Fort Point/Necco has a free coworking type space right next door
* Capital One Café especially if you have a Discover or Capital One card for 50% off drinks
@lilwolfcoffee also has decent amount of seating and space and is pretty quiet

Somerville and Medford
@diesel_cafe in Davis or sister café @blocsomerville in Union
@lifealivecafe Davis
@tampercafe Medford

Cambridge:

Harvard Square
* Smith student center- even if you’re not a Harvard student
@luxorcafee
@asarocafe
Capital One

Central Square:
@pepitacoffeeco
@smootstd

Porter Square
@phinista.cafe - this location is bigger than Fenway and has tables/ seating!
@pavementcoffee Lesley- newish location with a good amount of space. Most Pavements are popular with students

Kendall
@vestercafe and @areafour should both do the trick

Other:
* Vester Southie has SO much room
* Revival Café Watertown- quiet and has a massive lobby with seating

~unconventional~ locations: breweries during the day! don’t need to be 21 to order coffee of course.

Examples:
* @remnantbrewing
* @winterhillbrewingcompany

Let me know if there’s other neighborhoods you’re curious about!

$7 drinks on Thursday nights at @d16boston 💋🥂

RSVP (free) to get access to the Ladies Night menu of mini martinis for $7 each. This includes a mini espresso martini and other fun options. The regular food and drink menu is available as well.

The vibe is fun and me, Maddy and Cindy had ourselves a time checking it out last week.

Steal my go-to list of current favorite coffee shops in Cambridge for every occasion, updated for 2025 👇

Cambridge has some of the coolest coffee shops in the Boston area— and here’s my take as someone who has tried pretty much every café around. So many great cafés to choose from, so I definitely will keep updating this list, but these are my current faves:

Best atmosphere:
@faro__cafe
@cicadacoffeebar (has a patio out back too)
@_imagine__________

best for remote work:
@pepitacoffeeco
@vestercafe
@lifealivecafe kendall square (now with espresso!)
@revivalcafeandkitchen alewife

consistently amazing coffee:
@tilde.foh also a wine bar at night
@curiocoffee
@broadsheetcoffee
@1369coffeehouse
@ghowellcoffee at Lovestruck books

great breakfast:
@bomdough_
@ambacambridge
@verveinecafe

unconventional picks:
* @elmendorfbaking - inside a baking supply store
* @remnantbrewing satellite- a brewery in the evening but serves coffee and has an outdoor patio
* @jamiesicecreamco - an ice cream shop that has a full espresso menu and breakfast sandwiches! Yum

My favorite cafes that are open late:
* @cafebeatricecx (reasonably priced lattes) open until like 8 some weekdays
* @phinista.cafe Porter Square
* @dailyprov Harvard Square
* I have a whole list of others open late (lmk if I should repost an updated version) but I like the coffee/pastry options at these the best

Any others you’d put in the best of/favorites list if you could make one?

I will say I have tried pretty much everywhere (Circus, PRB, Flour, Simon’s, Asaro, Jaho, Pavement, Luxor, chains like Tatte, Blank Street, Blue Bottle… if they serve coffee in Cambridge, chances are I have probably visited at least once) but these are some of my top picks focusing mostly on true “coffee shops” versus bakeries— although I realize some of the more unconventional picks stray from that. Always like hearing new suggestions!!

your New England summer bucket list pretty much requires a visit here 🌊☕️☀️

Newburyport is the quintessential quaint New England town, with brick sidewalks, plenty of adorable independent shops, and lots to do out on the water too.

You can tack it on as part of a day trip that includes other great North Shore towns like Ipswich or Gloucester, and maybe add a stop at Plum Island, but you’ll find plenty to do in town to make it a pretty great summer day.

The best part is that while it feels like a completely different energy and a bit of an escape, it’s just an hour ish from Boston.

$1 espresso drinks at life alive this month with purchase ☕️

From a hazelnut affogato or vanilla tahini latte to a classic cappuccino or Intelligentsia espresso shot, there’s so many drinks to choose from that would pair perfectly with breakfast or a new bowl or salad off the spring menu.

My personal perfect pairing: an acai bowl with the iced vanilla tahini latte. So yummy and refreshing.

Some of my top recs for chill, elevated cocktail and wine spots in and around Boston 🥂

If you love a fun classy drink, these spots will all deliver. Think cool ambiance, places that could work for a date night or a catchup with the girls, and cocktail programs with a mix of classics and fun, funky concoctions.

Save this list for inspo and if you feel passionate about a favorite place I left out, share in the comments! I’m always looking for more to add to my list. (Really want to try Bar Lunette, Next Door, Daiquiris and Daisies, to name a few)

new coffee shop in Boston near government center!

This café has a great central location and plenty of unique specialty drinks to set its menu apart.

Every latte comes with a little treat on the side, which is such a fun nod to coffee culture abroad.

In this video:
🍓🍵 strawberry matcha latte topped with freeze dried strawberry dust
🍮☕️ “caramelista” latte topped with salted caramel cold foam and a biscoff garnish
🍊orange juice espresso tonic, served layered
☕️ espresso

🥪 smoked Mediterranean: veggie sandwich on Iggy’s focaccia with hummus and feta (I got mine without feta)

There’s also a place to fill out a wish on a slip of paper— once a month, customers will be able to vote on one that the café will grant!

Espresso is from Lavazza, and pastries/bread come from local bakery Iggy’s.

Founder is a BU alum which is super cool!

cicada has a full on food menu and local pastries, too, but my favorite part is the effortlessly cool, cozy and eclectic vibe. and outdoor seating in the back too! I’ve been on a quest for good coffee shop patios in the area, and this one is definitely a good option to add to the list

A true neighborhood gem near Boston serving local coffee and delicious treats in the middle of a baking supply store

Elmendorf is the perfect cozy vibe for a rainy day, serving up local coffee from Barrington and a bevy of baked goods and breakfast sandwich options. After you finish your coffee, it’s so fun to browse all the cookbooks, pans and other baking tools the have in stock. They also mill their own flour here (very cool).

One of my favorite parts of East Cambridge- they also organize the Grand Prix du Pain every year! Such a blast.

My order: small cold brew (4.65) and lemon poppy scone (4.50)

new café in the seaport ☕️ with outdoor patio seating and beloved donuts 🍩

Daily Provisions officially opened on May 13 ✨

This NYC chain first came to the Boston area last year with its Harvard Square location, but the Seaport location at Commonwealth Pier is somehow even larger!

There’s plenty of seating both inside and out on the patio by the water, and the same menu with Joe Coffee and the famous maple crullers that café visitors go crazy for

They were giving out free crullers for the first 100 visitors this morning to celebrate! I literally ran over and it was my mid run treat :)

New café & ice cream in Cambridge ☕️🍦

Third Time Together is a permanent home for a former pop up in the city. Expect creative ice cream flavors (still need to come back and try when we’re not visiting in the morning) and fun syrup flavors for coffee like vanilla panela, vahlrona mocha, WILLOW and more.

One thing to be aware of: coffee prices are a bit steep IMO. My oat milk latte was $7.28 before tip, and Maddy’s iced mocha with oat milk was over $8 - both were yummy, but we were lowkey in shock when it was time to pay. It’s about 50 cents to $1.50 more for a coffee here than some other cafes near Kendall and East Cambridge.

This is the former Gracie’s location on Binney Street so there is both indoor seating and a nice patio for warmer weather

My favorite Southie café just dropped new seasonal flavors ✨☕️ I honestly couldn’t decide which sounded the best, so here’s a quick show and tell of a few!

🍒 cherry vanilla float latte: my fave that I tried. decadent, creamy even with oat milk, and sweet in a perfectly summery way. it’s a black cherry flavor with a white mocha cold foam (contains dairy)

🍵 lychee cucumber matcha lemonade. So refreshing! perfect flavor balance after stirring and I loved the lychee as an added flavor, it felt super unique. this would be ideal on a hot and toasty sunny day

🌽 vietnamese coffee with sweet corn cold foam. super innovative flavor combo IMO. I’m a little too lactose intolerant to not suffer the consequences but omg was this a decadent cold foam, and it was 100% worth it

📍Cannonball Café, South Boston

About a 10 minute walk from the Broadway stop. There’s also free lot parking!

Add this decadent hot chocolate in Boston to your list for your next cozy sweet treat 👇

Snacks Box serves up some of the most viral hot cocoa in Boston, complete with a toasted meringue rim and oodles of holiday flavors to choose from. They also have lattes/coffee on the menu, and Belgian waffles with ALL the toppings.

You can find them popping up all over Boston, but this weekend they were at the Brighton Bazaar in good company with dozens of other local vendors.

Add this decadent hot chocolate in Boston to your list for your next cozy sweet treat 👇 Snacks Box serves up some of the most viral hot cocoa in Boston, complete with a toasted meringue rim and oodles of holiday flavors to choose from. They also have lattes/coffee on the menu, and Belgian waffles with ALL the toppings. You can find them popping up all over Boston, but this weekend they were at the Brighton Bazaar in good company with dozens of other local vendors. Best matcha in Boston: a subjective guide 🍵

While I’ve visited hundreds of cafés in the area at this point, I’m usually more of a coffee drinker and have been discovering matcha the last few years. With that in mind, here are some spots where I’ve had excellent (or at least decent) matcha lattes recently and a guide for what situation they might suit best for!

Save this to refer to later, and scroll through for individual drink spotlights, plus some bonus recommendations on the last photo that I didn’t have room to include but also have delish matcha. If you have recommendations, I’m super open to hearing them and expanding my horizons 🍵

spring 🤝 coffee shops with outdoor seating

this is one of my favorite seasons to visit this café tucked away in Harvard Square– the ambiance is lovely year round, but it can get pretty crowded inside during the cooler months, so when the tables and picnic benches are outside, you get the same experience with a whole lot more space and a dose of sunshine!

Where to find the best coffee in Boston, updated for 2026 (a biased take but coming from an absolutely prolific coffee drinker who has been exploring cafés in the city for 6 + years)

This is by no means an exhaustive list, and check out the link in my bio for the full blog post of specific details for each spot and why I love it so much, but these are some of the best of the best when it comes to amazing coffee shops in the city.

Save this and swipe through for some inspiration! This is by no means a list of all my favorites, just some of the ones with the very best and most exciting coffees right now. There are plenty of others amazing for breakfast, baked goods, a cute aesthetic, room to work remotely, etc. and I love sharing those too.
