In one session, you’ll get a crash course in at-home espresso: dialing in grind size, spotting over and under-extraction, mastering milk texture, and even trying your hand at latte art. Jonathan made everything approachable and clear (though still tricky in practice) and sent us home with beans and resources to keep practicing. I will say I have tried pretty much everywhere (Circus, PRB, Flour, Simon’s, Asaro, Jaho, Pavement, Luxor, chains like Tatte, Blank Street, Blue Bottle… if they serve coffee in Cambridge, chances are I have probably visited at least once) but these are some of my top picks focusing mostly on true “coffee shops” versus bakeries— although I realize some of the more unconventional picks stray from that. It’s a $15 cocktail, but the extra joy felt worth it. We walked in on a Friday night and ended up having about a 10 minute wait for 2 people on the patio. Luckily, we were just in time for a super vibrant sunset. We just did drinks and fries so we were super content to take in the view and vibe, but candidly the food here wasn’t my favorite when I went the first time. Every latte comes with a little treat on the side, which is such a fun nod to coffee culture abroad. In this video: 🍓🍵 strawberry matcha latte topped with freeze dried strawberry dust 🍮☕️ “caramelista” latte topped with salted caramel cold foam and a biscoff garnish 🍊orange juice espresso tonic, served layered ☕️ espresso 🥪 smoked Mediterranean: veggie sandwich on Iggy’s focaccia with hummus and feta (I got mine without feta) There’s also a place to fill out a wish on a slip of paper— once a month, customers will be able to vote on one that the café will grant! After you finish your coffee, it’s so fun to browse all the cookbooks, pans and other baking tools the have in stock. They also mill their own flour here (very cool). There’s plenty of seating both inside and out on the patio by the water, and the same menu with Joe Coffee and the famous maple crullers that café visitors go crazy for They were giving out free crullers for the first 100 visitors this morning to celebrate! I literally ran over and it was my mid run treat :)

It’s about 50 cents to $1.50 more for a coffee here than some other cafes near Kendall and East Cambridge. This is the former Gracie’s location on Binney Street so there is both indoor seating and a nice patio for warmer weather

Mine came with a garnish of cookie dough on the side (yum). Seating was limited here but eventually freed up; the drinks were $14 which felt pretty reasonable for an espresso martini. Maybe it was an opening night rush, but it did take forever to be able to order and get our drinks. There was standing room and a DJ going too so a few options if you wanted something super serene or a little more upbeat. Definitely can see the girls coming here to take cute pics and have a fun dessert cocktail, just be prepared for a little bit of a wait for both drinks and seating if you want it.

Best matcha in Boston: a subjective guide 🍵 While I’ve visited hundreds of cafés in the area at this point, I’m usually more of a coffee drinker and have been discovering matcha the last few years. With that in mind, here are some spots where I’ve had excellent (or at least decent) matcha lattes recently and a guide for what situation they might suit best for! With that in mind, here are some spots where I’ve had excellent (or at least decent) matcha lattes recently and a guide for what situation they might suit best for! Every single one of these opened in the past few weeks or months, so if you’re planning your next weekend sweet treat adventure and want to try somewhere new, these should go on the list! @elephantinebakery has stellar baked goods and coffee in a brand new location in seaport. Originally from Portsmouth NH, I’m not even a croissant girl usually but the almond croissants here are some of the best I’ve had (and there’s chocolate and pistachio too ofc) @dailyprov just opened a Harvard square location to bring NYC faves to the neighborhood. The maple cruller is a cult classic fr 👌 @ninewintersma is a Korean American bakery with delicious and unique flavor combos like a sesame chocolate chip cookie, injeolmi milk bread donuts and a gochujang sticky bun. @evaslittlekitchen opened recently in West Concord with oodles of delicious pastries. From cookies and croissants to unique giant macarons in fun flavors, you can’t go wrong here.

With so much lobby and seating space and a calm quiet environment, it’s a perfect remote work spot whether you’re an HBS baddie or otherwise. Definitely recommend the strawberry pink peppercorn for a refreshing summer latte- and a pastry too. This location does not have a full kitchen so it will have delish pastries and grab and go but not the full hot food menu of other locations.
