MODELS DOING BALLET 🩰 😅 HMM 🤔
First of all I adore when models actually take ballet training and use it to help them be even more bodily aware and model in cool shapes BUT when doing an actual ballet shoot, I don’t understand why you’d choose an untrained model to represent a ballet dancer.
I think it’s likely more the lack of knowledge just how it is to make it look really easy and good 😅
I adore when I see ballet dancers hired for actual fashion shoots especially when it’s supposed to be all about ballet 😅
If you’re a model, total respect for you but definitely get some training before accepting a ballet shoot 🩰

Vaganova adage is very hard and needs to be so precise. Here working my BFF and getting her legs stronger. We love pushing each other. We laugh, we work hard and we have fun. Find those teachers and friends who push you further!
In all honesty I used to HATE adage. My legs were crying having to try to hold them up, shaking and sweating like a pig ( similar to Jessie at my intensive 💪🏻) it’s so so hard.
Are you a sweater?? 💦 I sweat SO much in class.
It’s so worth it though because in the end I absolutely love adage and it’s so enjoyable to watch when you have the strength, flexibility and freedom of movement to do it!

Some people will likely say, there’s no need to demonstrate so much. I always say, while I can, while I want to, I will.
Why?
Because how often do people get to see up close how it can be done?
How often do you get to have live demonstration from someone who can still “do it” to a high level?
Let me tell you it’s quite rare. So while I can, I will because ultimately I love to dance and I love to share my passion with others, inspire and motivate.
I always make sure I’m totally warm and ready to do something like this 🤍

I used to have very very specific leotards I would wear for class - so much so I really believed I would do a better class and I often did!!
It goes to show, it’s not about what you wear but how it makes you feel! Do you feel confident in that outfit today? Do you feel inspired to be the best dancer you can be.
I think if a leotard or outfit makes you feel confident then go for it! 🤍
And don’t worry - Suvi likes to be pushed too 😉

MY VAGANOVA DREAM ✨LIFE DOESN’T ALWAYS GO TO PLAN ✨
my dream when I was a child was to go to the vaganova Academy. I obsessed over it.
Throughout my entire training, I would watch YouTube videos of my favourite ballerinas every evening.
I had a Russian coach on the weekends, I was working seven days a week.
When I finally got there, I thought everything was going to align and everything would work out. But my body shut down, it was put under a lot of strain, and I didn’t know how to fuel myself properly or recover properly or trust myself properly.
I was so worried about wasting time and worried about not getting good enough that I worked myself into injury.
That was a huge wake up call but I learned so much and that and learn the power of conditioning.
After everything I came back stronger, but then injured myself again!.
My point is here hold onto that end goal, hold onto that dream even if it’s not smooth sailing to the top if you keep that will inside you to keep going into reach that goal you will get there.

When I first saw someone stretching like that I thought ok…. I have a long way to go 😂
Firstly I’m not advocating this kind of teaching at all. What made my teachers so good at VAGANOVA was their honesty, blunt feedback and attention to detail and perfection.
In ANY school you can get teachers who don’t know the boundaries and take things to far and if this post gets thst conversation going then good!
Luckily I haven’t had any “mean” teachers just tough ones with kind hearts ❤️

BARE FOOT IN HER POINTE SHOES ✨😅
INÈS MCINTOSH PARIS OPERA FIRST SOLOIST
I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful artist recently, asking her many many questions all of which you will hear soon but one thing that stood out to me was how Inès prepared her shoes and the fact she went completely bare foot in her shoes, no plasters, nothing!
Today I think a lot of the younger generation wear a lot of padding but I remember at the royal ballet school we were advised just to use lambs wool which was quite uncomfortable because it moved around a lot.
I did use toe pads but I used to cut the bottom so I could still touch the floor with them or else it was too thick.
Going bare foot thought is NEXT LEVEL 🙌😅

HOW CAN WE MAKE ADAGE EASY ✨
Growing up, I wanted to have easy, free legs to lift.
I honestly thought I would NEVER have legs like Svetlana Zakharova but then one day, I decided not to give up. I knew I had to work harder. In class I tried my absolute best.
When I moved to vaganova I was so intimidated by the level of adage the other girls had. It looked so easy, I thought will I ever get there?!
I conditioned, I pushed through the long holds and I stretched. I went from the least flexible where I still couldn’t do the splits at 13 to becoming insanely flexible.
It’s not enough to stretch, you need the right alignment,
and strength in the body to access your core and turnout which will help you get the higher legs you desire!

NEVER FALL OUT OF TURNS AGAIN 🙌✨
If you’re ever wondering how to land your turns well in fourth, this can really help you!
Whilst it may look obvious initially, once you train your brain and body how to land, we end up not seeing it at all.
I always say, your leg won’t plié by itself! So allow yourself to plié on that leg.
You’ll be surprised how “off the leg” you initially will be if you have a habit of falling.
With this drill, soon enough you’ll be on your way to solid landings are even better turns as you’ll be more aligned and more stable on your supporting side 🙌

SYLVIE HAS MY BACK ✨🙏 WHO IS YOUR QUEEN?
Growing up I always looked up to these two as my idols ( I have a few more but I adore these two )
I used to be compared to Sylvie even just facially, when I was younger and she was younger we looked actually really similar 😅
I thought wow I want to have legs like that one day. Not just for the beauty of the leg extentions but the freedom of the legs.
This post is all about believing in yourself!! I started with no leg extentions and people saying I was so stiff for ballet. I refused to believe it and I worked my butt off!
I managed to get to a high level of ballet and flexibility!
Now I’m here to help you do the same but first it’s time to believe you’re capable of what you want 🙌💪🏻

WE CAN IMPROVE. LET’S TRY ✨
This post is about improvement. You don’t need to become super flexible. In the Russian school it was favoured. I wasn’t flexible so I put some effort in to stretch as I wasn’t. Surprisingly I improved a lot!
This is not to say everyone will get super duper flexible but I think everyone can improve in their own way, and do what works for them with the right guidance around you and safely.
I get so many comments saying, it is luck and some of us can’t do that. It wasn’t luck nobody believed in my skill, that nobody thought I’d have enough turnout. It wasn’t luck I decided to improve it.
I used to look at Svetlana Zakharova and think, no way will I be like that. I accepted it. For a while. But then I decided to try.
You can do the same, for turns, for jumps, for studying !! Yes there’s genetics that help. But hard work helps more. Let’s focus on improving, the rest will come.
If you knew the amount of stretching and conditioning I did… the hours alone. You wouldn’t call it luck.
As adults we place so many learned limitations on ourselves from our beliefs and surroundings.
We rationalise our way out of situations, out of being able to do something. Balet aside it can be anything!
I dare you to dream big and go after what you want!

GET THE SOUND OUT OF POINTE SHOES ✨🩰
When we go on stage, directors want to give the audience the illusion of soft landings.
Pointe shoes themselves are very hard to support our feet, but when dancing in them, especially if they are very hard or brand-new they can make a lot of noise.
When pointe shoes are very noisy they can take away the illusion of the ballet such as Swan Lake for example.
Most ballerinas will break in their shoes in rehearsals or classes slowly therefore the sound will dissipate over time.
However, sometimes a ballerina must just put on a new pair of shoes and dance straight away therefore the only way to get the sound out is to bang it against the wall.
Have you ever tried this?
It look quite dramatic but it can also be a very good stress relief. 😂

BALLET DANCERS ARE PERFECTIONISTS ✨🩰
These days we hold onto SO much perfection especially in ballet and make every day hold a lot of pressure and expectations.
We tend to have a whole dialogue in our head when a pirouette doesn’t go well but I think it’s a good reminder that ballet is always a journey and to be honest 90 percent of the time we want to do better, but that’s okay. We are always a work in progress and nobody cares as much about your mistakes as you do 💪🏻
So don’t hold back, keep working hard and follow your dreams.
