I did not think I would make it to 40. I might’ve mentioned it in the last few years on here, I might’ve not but either way, I didn’t. And yet, I made it to 40. I made it past 40! I did not think I would make it to 40. I might’ve mentioned it in the last few years on here, I might’ve not but either way, I didn’t. And yet, I made it to 40. I made it past 40! Three years. That’s how long this idea has lived in my head. Being a young breast cancer survivor is nearly impossible to explain. Unless you’ve lived it, it’s hard to understand that it’s not just pink ribbons, hair loss, and mastectomies. It’s not something you “get through” and then go back to life as usual. It’s a forever kind of war—one between your body and your mind. A body that betrayed you, even when you did everything “right.” A mind that keeps finding ways to remind you, long after treatment ends. My breasts will never feel like mine again. They are a permanent, visible reminder of what happened. The physical pain is one thing—but the emotional scarring is something I carry every single day. And yet… I have never felt more beautiful. This experience has changed how I see the world, and how I see myself. I feel joy, but it’s layered with pain. I feel excitement, but it’s laced with fear. I live in the gray—and yet I see more color than ever before. Can we feel happiness without sadness? Excitement without fear? Joy without pain? Maybe. But I’ve learned that how we measure those things evolves with every experience. And this one has changed me forever. Today is October 1st. 💗 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 💗 AND 4 years since I began treatment 💗 and also when I have my annual mammogram This month, you’ll see a lot of pink. Sure it’s annoying at times to correct people when they ask where my husband is or where my kids dad is…and yet I still have the privilege to not correct people if I don’t feel like it or the situation doesn’t feel safe.
