This spring Anthropic flew religious leaders to SF, had them sign NDAs, and spent hours making the case that Claude might be conscious. They were given an orange-bound copy of Claude's constitution, which staff called the "Soul Doc."

As ever, the timeline was furious. Anthropic got hit for the NDAs and for lobbying the Vatican to take AI consciousness seriously. The religious leaders who went got heat too, accused of clout-farming and lending Anthropic moral credibility.

I had @Muse go through my email, find all my therapist invoices, submit them to Aetna. I hit my deductible and will be getting a reimbursement and $$$ back the rest of the year. It took 20 minutes. Feels magical!!!

IMO the labs building tools nearly a billion people use every week should be thinking about morality. So why not bring in leaders who have spent their entire careers thinking about good and evil within their own varied and rich religious practices? Treating it as a scandal is stupid.

However, when you're heading into a potential $2T IPO I get that prioritizing morality can look like ethical handwaving to look like the good guy.
