My husband picked the sweetest little bakery for our Saturday morning treat: Mitten Sweets & Coffee in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle.

@mittensweetsandcoffee makes French and Japanese pastries plus coffee drinks. There were cakes, tarts, cookies, and pies here in flavors that were new to us. Everything looked so delicious that we had a hard time choosing what to order, but we decided on:

🔸 Kobocha Mont Blanc pie (very light and earthy; great crust)
🔸 Kyoto Matcha Cake (light with good matcha flavor)
🔸 Ube Tart (more dessert-like, but not too sweet)

We didn’t try coffee on this first visit, but we’re planning a second visit to try more pastries and coffee. This little bakery is a neighborhood gem and I’m glad we found it!

They also take advance orders for whole cakes and tarts.

Have you been to @mittensweetsandcoffee before?

📍Location: 509 13th Ave in Seattle, Washington (near Seattle University in First Hill)

💵 Price range: Baked goods range $5-$11. Specialty coffee ranges $6.25-$7.50.

Gourmet s’mores and PNW rustic decor? Sign me up! @toastedsmoresbar is a fun little shop in downtown Portland, OR, that serves made-to-order s’mores and coffee. This is the same spot where 1927 S’mores Company was, but there’s new ownership and a new name, but the same National Forest decor that I live for. 🌲

My partner and I both ordered the Green Thumb s’more, which is similar to a Dubai chocolate dessert. It has chocolate, pistachio spread, and vanilla marshmallow on graham crackers and they cost about $6 each.

We loved the s’mores and are big fans of themed restaurants and cafes, so Toasted S’mores Bar was a win for us. Overall, I’m so glad the s’mores concept is back after 1927 closed, and that they kept the camping vibes alive. ⛺️

Add this to your list for your next Portland trip!

📍 Location: @toastedsmoresbar - 1126 SW Alder St in Portland
💵 Price range: $6-$7 per s’more. This is a great place for dessert or coffee under $10

HAPPY 75th BIRTHDAY, @wastateferries!

What better way to celebrate the Washington State ferries than with a Friday afternoon rave? My friends and I couldn’t have asked for a better first ferry rave experience! DJ @johnnymonsoon soundtracked the coolest boat birthday party in Seattle. Thanks to @c895radio for putting on a cool experience for the community!

if you’d like to attend a ferry rave, check the @wastateferries website for their next two Friday ferry parties with DJs on Fridays in June. You have to purchase a regular ticket to board the ferry, but it only cost us $9 round trip to walk onto the ferry from West Seattle to Vashon Island and Southworth.

This was seriously so much fun and the perfect side quest with my friends! I loved it so much! ⛴️ 🪩

[ad] Save money on your next meal and support local restaurants in Southeast Seattle! @plateofnations is an annual event highlighting independent restaurants from Columbia City to Rainier Beach to South Park and more.

From March 20 - April 12, 2026, over 50 participating restaurants have Plate of Nations specials priced at $20, $35, and $40. Most meal deals are enough food to share with a friend. This is a great opportunity to eat somewhere in Seattle that’s new to you!

Three South Seattle restaurants you can visit:

🔸 Emerald City Fish & Chips (Rainier Valley) - @emeraldcityfishchips - A Black-owned restaurant that was voted Best Family-Style Fish & Chips in Seattle. The breading was seasoned nicely, but allowed the seafood’s natural flavor to shine. The chowder was hearty and delicious.

🔸 Salima Specialties - @salimaspecialties (Skyway) - A Pan-Asian restaurant serving Halal soups, noodles, and rice dishes, plus teas. I enjoyed the Bandung rose tea and Mee Mamak noodles.

🔸 Spice Waala - @spicewaala (Columbia City featured here, but they have multiple locations) - This takeout spot serves Indian street food from Calcutta and New Delhi. I tried paneer, lamb, and chicken kathi rolls, mango lassi, and their famous mango soft serve ice cream. Delicious!

Head to @plateofnations’ page and website (plateofnations.com) for a full list of the 50+ Seattle restaurants participating. From there, you can download your Plate of Nations passport to track where you’ve eaten or pick up a physical one at a restaurant.

There are lots of new folks here (hello!) since my first post, so it’s time for a reintroduction. 🙂 Hi, I’m Tori, the face behind TwineTasting, and I’m glad you’re here!

This blog is my hobby and creative outlet to highlight Seattle-area restaurants, cafes, bars, and events (think cooking classes, food and drink festivals, etc.). I started the blog in 2023 after a period of feeling creatively stuck. My now-husband and I always took pictures of our food at restaurants to remember what we ate and where. He encouraged me to start the blog so the pictures could live outside of my phone storage. That eventually branched into making videos, and here we are.

Most of my posts are from restaurant visits where I paid for the meal out of pocket. I accept a limited number of collaborations for opportunities that I feel are the right fit (case-by-case basis).

Why is my account called TwineTasting? Twine is my last name and I thought TwineTasting sounded cool and kind of like wine tasting. To some folks’ dismay, this is not a wine tasting account. 😂

Blogging isn’t my job, and I never want to make it one. My full-time job is in communications in a role that allows me to do my first love - writing - and my second love - storytelling through video. In college, I majored in cinema and used to work in the independent film industry. Fun times and long days on set back then!

Around Seattle, I love highlighting Black-owned businesses, restaurants with great southern-style food, and restaurants that don’t get as much buzz on social media or in the press. I’m originally from Virginia and miss the sweet tea in every restaurant. Shoutout to spots like @fatschicken and @peninsula.soul that serve it!

Some of my other hobbies include singing, playing guitar, attending concerts (3 favorites: @pearljam, @wolfaliceband, @teenjesusandthejeanteasers), PC gaming (lifelong @thesims fan over here), photography, hiking, writing, and traveling.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading! Tell me something about you in the comments!

The other day, I was craving spicy wontons, so I got them for lunch at @kind_asiannoodlehouse and they were perfect. 👌🏽 Then, I went back with my husband to try a soup, which is their specialty dish.

They currently have a spin-the-wheel special for a free appetizer or drink when you walk in, I won spiced peanuts!

KinD Asian Noodle House is a pop-up restaurant in the Alaska Junction of West Seattle. They’re in the Bonjour Vietnam space (with @thealleyws speakeasy in back of the building) and hope to extend the pop-up for several for months.

On two visits, I’ve tried:
🔸 Spicy wontons - $15.95 - Szechuan spicy goodness

🔸 Red-cooked Wagyu noodle soup - $25.95 - this is the priciest of their noodle dishes, but it was incredible. The Wagyu was tender and perfectly flavored.

🔸 Scallion oil noodles - $13.95 - simple and good

🔸 Avocado toast baguette bites - $6.95 - I liked this more than I expected. It’s like a deconstructed banh mi but with avocado.

🔸 Steamed dumplings - $12.95 - choose your filling

🔸 Spiced peanuts - $2.95 - well-seasoned with a slight kick of spice

🔸 Lavender green tea - $6.95 - good lavender flavor

🔸 Custard cream puffs - $4.95 - for dessert, you can choose custard or matcha filling!

I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve eaten at KinD and hope this noodle house is here to stay for a while. Check it out for lunch or dinner next time you’re in West Seattle!

📍KinD Asian Noodle House - 4509 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA (West Seattle Junction)

💵 Price range: Expect to spend $20-$30 per person or less

[hosted] You can get biscuits and gravy for breakfast outside of the south, and in Seattle, one place serving them up is @littlejayesouth in the South Park neighborhood.

Portions at Little Jaye are large and hearty, so you’ll leave satisfied and possibly with leftovers. I collaborated with the bakery to share info about tasty seasonal pastries on their menu, including:

🔸 Shokupan doughnut (this one had honey, but they have other rotating flavors)
🔸 Blood orange loaf (sweet and lightly citrusy)
🔶 Banana nut muffin

Regular menu items include:
🔸 Shokupan breakfast pizza (loved this)
🔸 Oreo chocolate chip cookie
🔸 Biscuits and gravy (yummy, especially with the green onions)
🔸 Tonic youth (espresso tonic)
🔸 Browned butter bourbon latte
🔸 Ubeby Baby Latte (ube latte)

💡 Tip: Little Jaye is the “little sister” of popular sandwich spot Lady Jaye in West Seattle. On many Sundays during the West Seattle Farmers Market, you can buy a large selection of baked goods from Little Jaye inside of @ladyjayewest!

Many thanks to the team at @littlejayesouth for hosting my husband and me. Let me know what you like to order at Lady Jaye if you’ve been before.

📍Location: 309 S Cloverdale St, Suite A4, Seattle, WA in the Cloverdale Business Park

💵 Price range: $10-$20 per person, depending on how much you order

Disclosure: I combined footage from the hosted visit and a regular visit for this video. The biscuits and gravy were from a regular visit where I paid for the food.

Follow me at @twinetasting for more unique Seattle restaurant, coffee, and drink recommendations!

[hosted] There’s a new @tequilapartida coming to town, and the only place you can get it is at @asagathering, a gorgeous (and Black-owned!) coffee and cocktail bar on Mercer Island, just east of Seattle.

They hosted a ticketed, four-course dinner and tequila pairing at @therock.mercerisland, ASA’s private event space. Tequila Partida’s master distiller José Valdez (@pepevaldez) taught us about the distilling process and guided us through the tasting menu. I learned so much about agave!

We enjoyed a lovely meal prepared by @chef_juan_orozco. We had beef tartare, hamachi crudo, dry-aged ribeye with potato pave, and finished the meal with a pineapple sorbet. @zekeishere crafted incredible drinks to pair with the meal.

José and ASA owner @hillharper created an exclusive Añejo tequila barrel that will only be available at ASA. Follow @asagathering and @tequilapartida to learn when you can try it (must be 21+).

On its own, ASA is a gorgeous spot near Seattle and you should add it to your list for morning coffee or evening happy hour if you’ve never checked it out.

Many thanks to the @managemaeve, @tequilapartida, and @asagathering teams for hosting my husband and me to cover this event!

[hosted] There’s a new Yemeni coffee shop in Tacoma! If you’re a pistachio fan like me, you’ll love the Dubai chocolate cake, pistachio baklava, pistachio latte, and more treats here.

I recently visited @sanaacafe.tacoma to showcase some items on their menu. In addition to the baked goods, you’ve got to try one of the traditional coffees. Pour a cup and enjoy with a friend.

Here’s what my husband and I tried:
🔸 Pistachio baklava
🔸 Honeycomb
🔸 Pistachio latte
🔸 Dubai chocolate cake
🔸 Sana’ani coffee (traditional)

I particularly enjoyed the cardamom flavor of the Sana’ani coffee, the flaky texture and nutty flavor of the baklava. Definitely check Sana’a Cafe out next time you’re in Tacoma! They have a full pastry case of baked goods and I saw there are matcha drinks on the menu, too.

Let me put you on to a delicious and affordable Sunday brunch in Seattle’s Hillman City neighborhood—and this spot is Black-owned!

@blackandtanhall is a performing arts venue and community hub, but also serves a delicious Sunday brunch (called Sunday Service) and dinner during live performances and events in the evenings. They have happy hour deals from 5-7pm during events.

Some mornings, musicians are onstage during brunch, so you might get live music with your shrimp tacos and breakfast potatoes. 😉

Reservations are required for Sunday Service, and I took my husband here as a surprise. We had:

🔸 French toast with seasonal fruit (peach) - huge portion; I took leftovers home - $13
🔸 Hushpuppies with house-made strawberry compote (delicious and enough to share) - $11
🔸 Shrimp and grits (awesome and spicy, but not overwhelmingly spicy) - $15
🔸 Fresh orange juice 🍊 - $3.25

@chefp206 and team are cooking up great things at Black & Tan Hall. I encourage you to read more about the history of the name and the jazz music scene in South Seattle. Let’s come out and support a Black-owned business not just during Black History Month, but every month.

Check @blackandtanhall’s schedule to find upcoming community events and concerts. If you have been here, let me know in the comments. If not, share this post with someone you’d bring to Sunday brunch!

If you know me, you know I love a cute themed cafe or restaurant, especially when it’s PNW rustic-themed and the menu is good. That’s why I’ve come to @embergoods for years and it’s a regular stop when I’m in Olympia.

Ember Goods is in the heart of downtown Olympia. They serve coffee and pastries on the cafe side, and much of the space is a retail gift and clothing shop. They roast their own beans, which you can buy bags of in the store and at other stores in Western Washington.

I’ve found candles, t-shirts, tinned fish, and all sorts of home goods and gifts for friends and family here. If you’re local or heading down on a day trip from Seattle, stop in Ember Goods and try a seasonal latte. It’s a cute shop that celebrates all things Pacific Northwest.

My husband and I tried a new Levantine coffee shop in Capitol Hill: Mintish Coffee House (@mintish_coffee). Being a pistachio fan, I had to get all things pistachio on this first visit, and that was a great choice.

Mintish serves Levantine food and coffee drinks, and is Palestinian-owned. We ordered:

🔸 Iced pistachio latte
🔸 Demasc latte (I want this next time!)
🔸 Dubai chocolate cheesecake (huge portions; great for sharing)
🔸 Pistachio croissant

The pistachio croissant was perfectly flaky and slightly sweet. The pistachio latte had a delicious cold foam. While I’m not a big cheesecake fan, I enjoyed the Dubai cheesecake. It wasn’t too sweet or too tart. My husband ate most of it and said the slice was large enough to have leftovers.

I want to try the Demasc latte on our next visit after having a sip of the one my husband ordered.

📍Location: 515 Harvard Ave E Ste. 121, Seattle, WA - Capitol Hill neighborhood
💵 Price range: $10-$15 if you order coffee and food. Coffee is under $10

#hosted I’ve said for years that the best espresso martini in Seattle is at @thefontebar in Rainier Square. But did you know that they have a full menu of espresso martinis—not just one?

The team invited me to showcase a few signature menu items and now I have a new favorite: the Silky Road. The drink’s smooth texture lives up to its name.

My partner and I enjoyed harissa chicken, which was earthy and slightly spicy, and linguine alle vongole (a seafood pasta) for dinner. We shared Belgian frites for a snack afterward. We’d been to Fonté for happy hour a few times before, so it was nice to finally try larger entrées.

Our dessert was the incredible affogato espresso martini, and eating it by the fireplace was the most relaxing way to end the evening.

Fonté coffee is famous in Seattle for their F2 espresso blend. You’ll recognize it if you’ve been to any @fontecoffee location or an @uptown.espresso. The bar makes the cold brew liqueur for the espresso martinis in house!

Other drinks we tried:
🔸 Going Bananas, The Meadow, and Oopsie Daisy

📍Location: The Fonté Bar at Rainier Square, 401 Union Street, Suite 201 in Downtown Seattle
💵 Price range: Expect to spend $30 per person and up

Disclosure: This visit was comped, but I left a cash tip for the value of our food and drinks.

What have you been eating this summer? My fiancé and I have been on a gelato kick to manage these hot (for Western WA) days, and we recently tried a gelato shop from our list, @dolcedilettogelato in Burien, just south of Seattle.

He ordered a cup of half calamansi basil, half chocolate gelato. The calamansi basil was very lemony and herbal. I hadn’t seen that flavor anywhere before, so it was neat to try. I ordered pistachio and loved it. It had a good nutty flavor without being overly sweet.

At $5.45 each, we found Dolce Diletto an affordable treat. The staff was very friendly and we plan to come back and try more from the menu.

Check out @dolcedilettogelato and if you’ve been before, tell me your favorite flavor! Or, tell me your favorite gelato or ice cream flavor in general 🙂🍦

This past two days of Taste Washington were incredible. I met the sweetest local restaurant and winery owners and sampled everything from Peruvian food from @lamarbellevue to North Carolina barbecue from @dowdsbbq (a taste of home for me) to sparkling tea from @valdemarestates. My “want to go” list of Seattle-area and Washington restaurants has just gotten longer!

A full recap video is coming. Many thanks to Averyl and the @taste.washington team for the opportunity to cover the Grand Tasting. I already can’t wait for the 2027 events!

Washington State’s first Black-owned pizzeria is here and they’re serving delicious Roman-style slices. I’d followed Isaiah and Colleen’s journey to opening @pizzabyruffin via their TikTok videos. On a rare weekday off, I got to stop by for lunch.

Standout slices for me were the bbq brisket and lamb. My fiancé tried the gotchu-Jane, which was a special. The pizza crust was perfect and I can honestly say lunch was delicious. I just wish I could visit more often!

Slices range about $7-$8 each and two slices were enough for me to feel full. Pizza by Ruffin is open on weekdays and be sure to arrive early as they sometimes sell out by late afternoon. Specials rotate weekly, so follow them to see what’s on the menu.

This business is also nominated for an @intentionalist_ award this year, and the ceremony is in October. Check out @pizzabyruffin on your lunch break and if you’ve been before, tell me your favorite flavor. 🍕

Serendipitous moments are the best, and here’s a story about the serendipitous moment that led to my husband and me eating our first brunch at @cancansdressingroom a few years ago.

One Saturday morning, we were hungrily walking around Pike Place Market, trying to decide where to eat after our original breakfast plans fell through. We walked by Can Can and noticed they were open. We knew @cancanseattle had evening shows, dinner, and drinks, but didn’t know at the time that they also served weekend brunch.

Breakfast plans were sorted, and now we’ve had several weekend brunches and taken many booth photos at Can Can. We still love the early 1900s Parisian, colorful, and whimsical decor that makes the theater feel like another world. 🎭

My favorite breakfast dishes at Can Can are the breakfast plate ($21) with potatoes and scrambled eggs and the beignets ($12). The plate reminds me of a hearty southern breakfast and the beignets are pillowy and cooked perfectly each time. I’ve had a few other breakfast items, but I tend to stick with my favorites here.

If you’ve only seen Can Can at night, it’s worth a daytime visit between Friday-Sunday for their brunch menu! Have you eaten there before?

For those who missed my stories, I got married last weekend! I’ll share more about our special day when we receive the professional photos, but for now, I want to shout out the team at the Goldfinch Tavern for a wonderful rehearsal dinner experience! @goldfinchtavern (This is not sponsored!)

My husband and I chose dishes from the fall group dinner menu and we selected:

🔸Herb focaccia (included in all group dinners)
🔸Appetizers: Goldfinch chowder and roasted carrot salad
🔸 Entrées: Pan-seared Muscovy duck breast, soy-marinated salmon, Italian sausage risotto, Dungeness crab rigatoni
🔸 Desserts: Sweater weather (pecan praline dessert) and tiramisu. We also received a surprise congratulatory Bavarian cream dessert
🔸 Drinks: The Purple Rain mocktail was a hit. Several of our guests had one!

Most of our wedding guests traveled from out of town and the @goldfinchtavern and @fsseattle staff provided a relaxing experience for everyone to eat and mingle before the big day. Thank you again! 🥰

Let me know if you’ve been to the Goldfinch Tavern before! It’s inside the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Seattle.

Last month, we tried @indofusionkitchenbar, a new West Seattle fusion restaurant on their first day of dine-in service.

They serve a mix of Indian food with Mexican, Italian, and Asian dishes. This restaurant is by the same owners as Maharaja Indian Cuisine, just down the street from this spot. We tried:

🔸Masala fries (appetizer)
🔸Green curry
🔸Lamb massaman curry

My partner and I both felt the food was spiced well. The lamb massaman curry was creamy, rich, and had a hint of spice. My partner had green curry and he enjoyed it.

We were too full for desert on this visit, but will try that next time. This place is worth checking out next time you’re looking for lunch or dinner in the Alaska Junction. I will add that the plant decor inside is also a nice touch!
