Twenty-five years. Three vineyards. One bottle.

“Since 2001 we have been steadfast in our goal of capturing mother nature through the lens of Pinot Noir.” - @joethewinemaker

Of all the grape varieties, none is more a product of its environment than Pinot Noir. Its skin is so thin it barely separates the fruit from the world around it, absorbing every nuance of soil, temperature, and climate in a way no other variety can.

Fog-cooled mornings. Ocean breezes. Slow, deliberate ripening across three of the most renown Pinot Noir sites. Las Alturas. Clark & Telephone. Dairyman. Over 270 miles of coastline. Each shaped by its own marine influence and soils.

“Before Sideways. Before Pinot Noir was cool. Before we knew just how good California’s coast could be for this temperamental varietal.” - @joethewinemaker

And over 25 vintages of trial, experimentation, and learning, we found exactly how to improve and maximize the potential of every site in every bottle.

Extended hang time. Cryo-extraction to burst open the skin cells for deeper, richer, more intense color and fruit. Long, slow cold fermentations that build an expansive mid-palate Pinot Noir rarely achieves. Barrel stripping to remove existing tannins before oak aging and adding depth. And of course, wax sealing to create a perfectly oxygen-deprived environment.

Las Alturas. Clark & Telephone. Dairyman. The three vineyard sites that built everything together for the first time in a single anniversary bottling.

This is the Belle Glos Twenty-Fifth Anniversary.

Early access is live now, exclusively before the world gets it. Link in bio.

I’ve been waiting a long time to share this one with you all…Today, we are officially launching the Westhoff Pioneers collection! A project that has been generations in the making.🍷

My family’s winemaking journey began in the 1850s when they left Westhoffen, France, for the unknown. They arrived in America with nothing but a vision and a work ethic. This collection is a tribute to them, and to every trailblazer who wasn’t afraid of losing… only of not trying.

We’ve crafted three distinct red blends, each representing a different thread of the history that built the American wine industry:

🇫🇷 The FRA: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Inspired by the blends found in France’s Rhône Valley. The grapes are grown in the coastal, yet warm pockets of Monterey, capturing the fresh and aromatic sensibilities of a Rhône blend transformed by California sunshine.

🇮🇹 The ITA: Sagratino, Teroldego, Nero D’Avola, and Negro Amaro. Grown in Santa Barbara County. The region’s long growing season and ocean-cooled afternoons allow the grapes to ripen fully while maintaining their natural acidity, mirroring the structure and vibrancy of Southern Italian reds.

🇺🇸 The USA: Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Sirah. Its roots in Sonoma are a nod to the foundation of California wine growing, where the combination of older vines, warm days, and cool nights creates a wine with plush dark fruits, spice, and richness.

I’m immensely proud to be keeping my family history, and the history of American winemaking, alive through this collection.

In the 1850s my family left the small French town of Westhoffrm with nothing but the knowledge of the vine and a belief that America was worth the risk.

Five generations later, Westhoff Pioneers is my tribute to them.

Three blends (French, Italian and American) each inspired by a different corner of that heritage, grown in the coastal California soil.

Westhoff Pioneers now available online and in store 🍷

2016… I was in my 16th vintage of winemaking and 2 years into intentionally building a portfolio of luxury wines.

It was the 15th vintage of @bellegloswines, and we were about to release our first-ever Pinot Noir from Eulenloch Vineyard in Napa Valley. A huge expansion for us and the first time Napa Valley ever entered the Belle Glos lineup.

That same year, we bought the Fagiani building in downtown Napa and began the revamp that would become the @quiltandco tasting room. Yes, the haunted Fagiani building. We even built a separate budget just for saging the place and clearing out whatever spirits were hanging around.

At the same time, I was getting ready to launch Böen (now Böen by @bellegloswines), a luxury Pinot Noir meant for everyday enjoyment from California’s coastal regions. It was designed as an entry point to Belle Glos… the little brother. I was so excited for this one.

@napavalleyquilt was heading into its second release of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with the goal of creating a cult-style Napa Cab without an elitist price point. Quilt ruffled some feathers in the Valley at the time and now it’s become one of Napa’s most beloved brands.

We were also hot and heavy on planting during that era. vineyards that would go on to become new wines released over the next decade.

All of this was happening while the kids were still kids. I was coaching baseball, trying to stay present, and teaching them about grapes, vineyards, and the basics of winemaking whenever I could. Rachel continued to be a constant source of steadiness, joy and support through it all.

Oh and somewhere in there.. I ditched the tie.
