The underlying terms of your loan remain exactly the same, only the destination of your monthly payment changes. By law, both your old and new servicers are required to notify you. Plus, there's a 60-day grace period after the transfer where payments accidentally sent to the old company cannot be marked late or penalized. Be careful: scammers frequently fake these transition notices. Always verify the new lender by calling the official phone number listed on your previous statement, not the one printed on the new letter.
