What happened between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Florida Panthers was not just a hockey moment. It was a reminder of why sport exists at all and what it means to be part of something bigger than a game.

Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed by a drunk driver the summer before the 2024-25 season in one of the most devastating tragedies the hockey world has experienced in modern memory. Johnny was beloved — not just in Columbus, not just in Calgary where he had his best years, but everywhere anyone had ever watched him play. He was electric, creative, genuinely joyful on the ice, and the kind of player who made you fall in love with hockey all over again just by watching him skate. Losing him and his brother the way they were lost was a wound that the entire sport is still healing from. 💔

PK Subban absolutely terrorized the league 😳🔥

Say what you want about everything else, but PK Subban made the NHL infinitely more fun to watch and the sport is genuinely lesser without him in it.

From the moment he arrived in Montreal and started putting up points, making jaw-dropping plays in his own zone, and celebrating goals like he was auditioning for a music video, it was clear that PK Subban was a different kind of player. His offensive instincts from the blue line were absolutely elite — the way he could quarterback a power play, jump into the rush, and rifle a shot through traffic was something you only see from a handful of defensemen in any era. But beyond the skill, he brought a PERSONALITY to the game that hockey desperately needed and too often pushed away. He wore his emotion on his sleeve, he celebrated hard, he talked, he smiled, and he made the game feel alive in a way that only a handful of players in history have managed to do.

His time in Nashville was electric. He had arguably the best years of his career with the Predators and turned that city into a legitimate hockey town almost by himself. The combination of his play on the ice, his relationship with the fans, and his massive personality off of it made him must-watch TV no matter what night of the week it was. Even in New Jersey and Vancouver when injuries slowed him down, the moments he still managed to produce reminded everyone watching exactly what the sport was missing.

The 2019 Reds were one of the most unpredictable teams in MLB history! 🔥

You never knew if they’d win by 10, lose by 15, or start a full on brawl with the opposing team. 😂

The Reds were involved in several notable on-field scuffles and bench-clearing incidents, particularly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The rivalry heated up over the course of the season, leading to multiple tense moments that stood out more than usual for a non-playoff team.

They also ranked among the league leaders in home runs. They hit a franchise-record 231 homers in 2019

Overall, 2019 was a step forward from the prior rebuilding years—better offense, some exciting individual performances—but the team still lacked the consistency and pitching to contend seriously.

LeBron James was DIFFERENT when he was young! 😳🔥

LeBron James entered the NBA at 18 years old and somehow still made the entire league look like it wasn’t ready for him.

Think about what it means to be a teenager dropped into the best basketball league in the world, with every camera pointed at you, every analyst waiting for you to fail, and the weight of an entire city’s hope on your shoulders — and then to not just survive that, but to thrive in it immediately. He was named Rookie of the Year, was making All-Star teams before he could legally have a drink, and was carrying a Cavaliers team that had absolutely nothing around him to places they had no business being.

The 2007 playoff run where he personally destroyed the Detroit Pistons to send Cleveland to the Finals is still one of the greatest individual performances in NBA playoff history. He was 22 years old. Nobody in the building could stop him, and everyone watching knew they were seeing something that had never existed before. Those early years weren’t just impressive — they were the foundation of the greatest career the sport has ever seen.
