Ad. DIY Aircon 🥶

Having an office in the garden sounds amazing, but not when hot weather comes ☀️

I needed a way to cool the heavily insulated room down to make it comfortable whilst I’m working.

Traditional Aircon comes in two parts, an indoor and an outdoor unit. Which is sometimes not practical.

Not only that, you have to be qualified and F-Gas registers to install traditional Aircon.

This system is super simple and can be installed by a DIYer.

@aircare.appliances offer a professional instillation service if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Is it still a FAIL?!? ✅❌

At the start of the year, I attempted to build my own washing machine cabinet.

Honestly, the first attempt made from CLS timber was a huge fail.

It stayed half built and on show in the back of my kitchen build content.

I thought that my second design would be stronger and easier to make.

That was so far from true. With so many bespoke elements to this project. Mainly due to the pipes and electricity at the back feeding the washing machine, everything just felt more difficult.

Throughout spring summer and autumn, I’ve been slowly chipping away at this project hoping that one day it will be fully finished.

As you can see, it’s still not.

The main door needs replacing which honestly feels like the biggest job of all. My motivation to continue with this project is at zero.

This is proof you can’t win them all. I’m not upset about it. I can live with the outcome ✅

Can it be done? 👀😬

Honestly I’ve never seen someone scribe cut a 92mm thick post of Iroko wood.

I imagine if they did, they would be using a bandsaw to cut the scribe line perfectly. Unfortunately I don’t have a band saw ‘yet’, so I made do.

And the outcome was amazing! Way better than I thought it would be 🙏🏻

The next Reel will be me hanging the gate 💪🏼

Drop a comment if you love DIY! The feeling of achievement when completing even little jobs like this is amazing 🤩🙌🏻

New under stairs window ✅

Although this didn’t go completely to plan, I did learn something.

Make absolutely certain that the new window is the right size for the brickwork 🫣

This was a massive miss measurement, and I won’t be making that mistake again… I hope.

All that to one side. The security risk was real. If you have old windows. Make sure you check if they can be removed from the outside!

DIY the perfect garden path ✅🏡

Simple but so beautiful. Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for garden DIY project this year.

It’s still one of the projects I’m most proud of and often admire ✅

DIY House Extension ✅ Must read ⬇️

This is a recap of how this home renovation started.

The house extension had to be done, and I was the only one who could do it.

It took 6 months of hard work, discipline, learning, and pure emotion from me and the family.

But the result was bigger than expected.

Instead of just building a house extension, I ended up building a massive community of like minded people.

People who don’t see the barriers in the way, people who want a home that matches their expectations and vision.

It’s been amazing so far, and I know it’s only going to get better 🙌🏻

Please read ⬇️

I recently posted a controversial conversation I had with a builder. The builder told me not to sweat the small stuff as it won’t affect the house price.

I believe the point of the post was missed by many. Maybe that’s my fault.

The post wasn’t about doing the minimum and passing it on to someone else. It was about maintaining sanity in a busy renovation, doing what you can with the time, money, tools and experience you have.

MDF Edges 🫣 Painting ✅

When I first started doing DIY, painting MDF edges seemed like a big deal!

They always seem to turn out furry.

So if you’re not going to edge band your MDF. Then here is the simple guide.

1) Ensure the edges are smooth with sandpaper.
2) prime with Zinsser 123
3) Lighlty sand again until smooth
4) Prime again
5) Lightly sand
6) Colour coat - Thin but smooth coat
7) Lightly sand
8) Final colour coat - paying attention to no runs and lightly smoothing with the roller

If you want to invest in more equipment and get a better finish, you can look at sprayers, but personally I love the look of these hand painted kitchen drawers and doors.

And I didn’t have to spend a fortune on spraying equipment. Just a good quality Harris roller.

Note: I have worked with Harris in the past, but this is not part of any paid collaboration.

Can it be stolen? 🫣👀

Many people have commented telling me that the hook and band hinges are a security risk.

Apparently, the gate can easily be lifted out of place. Many recommend turning one of the hinges upside down so it can’t be lifted.

However, that puts all of the weight onto one hinge. Surely that’s not right.

If you had a lock to the gate, surely that will stop the gate been lifted out of place?

The GateMate lock is a great security addition. And it will look even better on the Iroko gate.

The link for the lock it is in my bio 🔗

People always say: ‘Just get a professional to do it…’

But here’s the thing—how do you think the professionals got so good in the first place? 🤔

They learned by jumping in, making mistakes, figuring it out, and getting better every time.

DIY isn’t about being perfect on day one. It’s about having the courage to start, learning as you go, and ending up with something you built with your own hands (and a massive sense of pride 🏆).

So don’t listen to the people who tell you not to try. Listen to the ones who’ve done it and know it’s worth it ✅

Filling a gap ✅ how did I do? 🫣

Not a simple grout and forget. This joint needs to be flexible.

I kept putting it off for two reasons: it’s in a really noticeable spot, and I didn’t want anyone walking on it while it was still wet!

Of course, just 30 minutes after finishing, Nicole walked right through it 😂

So its far from pretty, but it’s functional 👌🏻

I genuinely feel bad about this one 😔

If it was my own house, I could live with it and maybe replace the brick one day 🧱

But to offer a friend help and then make a mess of the job, feels rubbish and it doesn’t make me any better than a cowboy Builder.

The only upside is that I fixed it as best I could which my friend was satisfied with, and in the end I was helping him for free anyway 🤣

It’s now a DIY disaster that we will always look back on. Hopefully one day he will look back and see the funny side.

How would you feel if a friend made a mistake whilst helping you with DIY?

Maybe you have a story of your own which you could share in the comments?

Years ago, I invited a builder around to look at my renovation. While I was stressing over whether a skirting board was 100% perfect, the old-school builder laughed, and dropped the single best piece of property advice I’ve ever been given…

He said:
“If you’re renovating to sell, stop trying to make it perfect. Likely chances are, It wouldn’t be perfect even if you get a professional in to do it.
It doesn’t need to be perfect.
It needs to be clean, fresh, and priced right.
Do 80% of it yourself.
Paint it yourself.
Tile it yourself.
Sand those floors yourself.
Hang the doors, fill the gaps, caulk the edges… yourself.
Pocket all the money you would’ve paid a tradesman.

Because here’s the truth nobody tells you:
The average home buyer walks in, falls in love with the vibe, takes 17 blurry photos for their partner, and makes an offer.

They do NOT get out a spirit level.
They do NOT notice the slightly uneven grout line in the bathroom.
They do NOT see the tiny chip in the paint behind the fridge.
And even if they do…
it’s not likely to change the sale price.

Perfection is expensive. Because it takes lots of time.

‘Good enough for sale’ is profitable.

That one conversation saved me tens of thousands of pounds and months of stress. and gave me the confidence to tackle it all myself.

So if you’re mid-reno right now, sweating the small stuff… Take a breath. Step back.

Ask yourself: “Am I building my forever home… or am I building someone else’s?”

Most renovations just need to look and feel nice. If not for the sake of the budget but for the family living in it.

Put the paint roller in your own hand and keep the profit.

End of story. 🏡🔨💰

Who else needed to hear this today? Drop a Like if you’re team ‘good enough’ from now on.

The DIY project I was too scared to post 🫣

The learning curve to build this insulated garden room was immense. Maybe too steep for me 🫣

Back in 2021/22 I put all of my time and money into this project. But what I got out of it was way more than just a building.

I realised I had a new passion - building and DIY 🙌🏻

Although I checked with the local council to build this, that wasn’t necessary. It’s well within permitted development 🏡

The walls are just one skin of brick, with block peers to give the walls rigidity.

The pitched roof, was an exciting challenge and even now I feel proud when I look at it.

I’m posting this video now because I want to prove that mistakes do happen and it’s okay to accept them.

I still need to fix the structural issue. I was planning to do that when I replace the back window with double doors.

That’s a project for 2026.

Thanks for following the journey this far and I can’t wait to show you all of my future projects 🚀

Patio cleaning 🧽

I was advised in the comments to use wet and forget on my patio, even though I’ve never heard of it.

I wanted to give it a fair test.

This is how it turned out ✅

I think wet & forget wood work if I gave it more time, but sometimes you just want to get a job done.

let me know in the comments what your experience of these two cleaning methods are.

Hallway and under stairs toilet 🚽 PART 10

I can’t stand grouting. It’s cleaning the grout haze after that frustrates me.

It’s also true that grout isn’t waterproof… so I went looking for a new grout solution.

This is not an ad, just me showing a cool product that worked so well on my latest project. For me this will be my go-to from now on.

Flashback to 2022 - WHERE IT ALL STARTED 💥

It sounds crazy but the helpful advice I was given by other renovators and builders in the comments and DMs made this possible 💪🏼

I would spend every waking moment researching, working, building just to make the homes secure for my family.

Years on, it’s done. Although those early days do feel a different life…

Maybe I just blocked it out as trauma 🤣

2026 will be bringing big things 🙌🏻

Why do I love woodworking so much?

It’s almost never as simple as it seems 🫣

The wood is almost always warped.

The saw blade is almost always blunt.

The measurements are almost always slightly out 😂

But still, when it’s all done. You can stand back and appreciate a good looking piece of work.

I’m excited to keep pushing my woodworking skills.

I one day hope to accomplish some really complex joints in big structures 👀

But until then, this bin storage will do.

Bin storage reveal coming soon.
