I can barely remember watching that match.
When I was 7 years old after my parents put me to bed I’d sneak back into our tv room and stay up late watching reruns of the NCAA wrestling tournament on vhs. I knew that I was going to compete there someday. I decided at that age that I needed to dedicate myself to my craft, and work hard so I’d be prepared to win it. There were many ups and downs in the years following, but I stayed committed and eventually realized a life long dream of becoming an NCAA champion. I realized after the fact that achieving the goal was great, but the character that was forged in me was the real prize. I realized that belief in yourself and gratitude in your heart are more valuable than winning a trophy. There’s no shortcut to becoming the person you want to be. You have to know what you want, take responsibility for the work that needs doing, and make daily decisions that align despite any obstacles or setbacks. I started out as a skinny little redheaded kid living in Torrington, Wyoming (still am at heart). Anyone can do this, just make a decision on what you want and the universe will conspire to make it happen. Have faith along the way and always practice gratitude. God bless 🙏🏻
