It’s official: A League of Their Own just went pro ⚾
️
The Women’s Professional Baseball League will launch in 2026, with its first teams based in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. The league was co-founded by Justine Siegal, who made history as the first woman to coach professional men’s baseball.

This will be the first professional women’s baseball league in nearly 30 years, and the first of its kind since the days of A League of Their Own. It’s fully women-run, nationally broadcast, and built from the ground up to change what America’s pastime looks like.

From movie myth to modern milestone, the next era of baseball belongs to women. Would you go to a game in your city?

Boston just ranked dead last for drivers in the U.S., again.

Allstate’s 2025 Best Drivers Report puts Boston at #200 out of 200, officially making it the worst driving city in America.

Worcester (#197) and Providence (#192) weren’t far behind, forming what some call the Triangle of Terror for anyone trying to get somewhere in one piece.

Between spaghetti-road layouts, box trucks getting stuck under bridges, and drivers who treat blinkers like optional equipment, Boston continues to be in a league of its own.

But hey, if you can drive in Boston, you can probably survive anywhere.

📊 Best drivers in 2025?

1. Green Bay, WI
2. Cary, NC
3. Oxnard, CA

📉 Worst?

 200. Boston, MA

Boston did it again.

WalletHub analyzed 399 cities, scored them across five major sports (football, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey), and crunched everything from fan engagement to team performance to stadium access. The result? Boston edges out LA for the title of top sports city in America.

Fenway. TD Garden. Gillette. A championship-stacked history. A fan base that treats sports like a second language. It all added up.

LA, Pittsburgh, NYC, and Dallas round out the top five, so let the arguing begin.

Which city should be number one?

High-speed rail in the U.S. is getting a much-needed upgrade.

Amtrak’s NextGen Acela trains officially launch August 28, connecting Washington, New York, and Boston with:

 • 160 mph top speeds (10 mph faster than the current Acela)
 • Free 5G Wi-Fi and 27% more seats
 • Reading lights, power outlets, and winged headrests at every seat
 • Smoother, quieter rides thanks to tilt tech

Only 5 of the new trainsets will launch first, with more added through 2027.

Still not as fast as Europe or Japan, but it’s a step.

Gronk got a duck boat. A football-shaped jungle gym. And maybe… a one-day Patriots contract next? 👀

The Gronk Playground is officially open on the Charles River Esplanade, a $1.8M gift to the city from the legend himself. Inspired by the hospital window views during his playing days, this playground is as Boston as it gets.

🏈 40-yard dash and vertical jump challenge
🌉 Zakim Bridge climbing frame

♿️ Accessible merry-go-round

Gronk pulled up in a duck boat, got teary mid-speech, and called it the “perfect spot” because it reminded him of championship parades. Let the kids cook.

Massachusetts parents, this one’s for you.

New 2026 rankings from WalletHub just named Massachusetts the best U.S. state to raise a family for the fourth year in a row.

The study compared all 50 states across affordability, safety, education, health care, and overall quality of life. Massachusetts came out on top thanks to top-ranked schools and childcare, strong job security, high median incomes, and some of the best child health coverage in the country.

Yes, costs are high. But the data shows incomes and long-term stability help offset it, especially for families with young kids.

Boston-area parents, consider this your humble brag moment.

Pure hometown chaos.

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jimmy Fallon took the Tonight Show stage as “3 Guys From Boston” and spent nearly five uninterrupted minutes naming every city and town in Massachusetts, from Abington to Yarmouth.

All told, they rattled off roughly 350 town names 💀

Boston just ranked as the 8th best city in the world, beating Tokyo, San Francisco, and LA.

Oxford Economics analyzed 1,000 of the most populous cities across five key areas: economics, education, quality of life, governance, and the environment.

Boston came in strong thanks to its massive GDP, elite universities, high per-capita income, and livability, proving once again it’s more than just a college town.

New York, London, and Paris took the top 3, but Boston outranked global heavyweights like Tokyo (#9), SF (#10), and LA (#11).
Smart. Clean. Underrated.

New England does not do subtle.

The town of Maynard, just west of Boston, is considering a temporary name change to MAYEnard in honor of Drake Maye ahead of Super Bowl LX.

If approved by the town’s Select Board, officials say no one will be watching the big game from Maynard on Sunday. They’ll all be watching from MAYEnard instead.

It’s a one-day stunt, but it’s very on brand. A nearby town once renamed itself “Dunkin’” for a day, so this kind of civic enthusiasm is basically a local tradition.

The Patriots play the Seahawks on February 8, and whether the name change passes or not, one thing’s clear: New England is fully locked in.

Buddy the Elf has officially landed in Boston.

A local creator (@beefeatsfirst) went viral after reenacting scenes from Elf across the city, swapping New York landmarks for Dunkin’, Fenway Park, the City Hall cop slide, and a Guinness topped with maple syrup.

The video imagines what Elf would look like if it were filmed in Boston, complete with a stop for a “World’s Best Cup of Coffee” at Dunkin’ and a lobster roll drenched in syrup.

The creator even told NBC Boston that the Dunkin’ scene got so awkward his cameraman bailed mid-shot.

Honestly, that tracks.

John Hancock’s former Boston home is officially up for grabs, and it’s one of the city’s oldest surviving buildings.

Built in 1767, this brick landmark once held 2 million silver crowns from the French to fund the Revolutionary War. John Hancock earned his “Founding Father” status by being the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, and signing it with such dramatic flair that his name became synonymous with signatures.

It’s the only remaining Hancock-owned property in Boston, and now it’s looking for a new owner for the first time in 50 years.

📍 Located at 10 Marshall St., near the Green Dragon Tavern and City Hall.
💰 No official asking price, but it’s assessed at $1.65 million.

Boston just scored bragging rights: the city was named #1 for public transit in the U.S., according to a new study by Wander. 🚇

The T, with its Red, Orange, Blue, and Green lines, plus commuter rail, ferries, and buses, gives Boston the best mix of access, coverage, and ease of use. Fun fact: it’s also the oldest subway in the nation, opening in 1897, seven years before NYC’s system.

✨ Even better: the T is piloting late-night service this fall, running until 1:30am on weekends with free rides after 9pm.

Would you have guessed Boston, not NYC, would take the crown for public transit? 👀

Boston just took the crown as the best city in the U.S. for students, and cracked the global top 15 in the QS 2026 Best Student Cities ranking.

The city scored sky-high for:

Boston just got a major nod from the Michelin Guide.

The city has been named one of the best food destinations in the world for 2026, landing on Michelin’s newly released list of 16 places worth traveling for if eating well is your top priority.

Boston is the only New England city to make the cut and joins a short list of North American standouts, including Philadelphia, Florida, Route 66, Québec, and Vancouver.

It’s a sign that the city’s food scene has officially entered its heavyweight era, blending legacy staples with ambitious, modern cooking.

Michelin didn’t single out specific restaurants here, but the inclusion speaks volumes. From seafood institutions and Italian enclaves to chef-driven tasting menus and boundary-pushing newcomers, Boston’s dining culture is now being viewed as a destination, not just a stopover.

If you’re planning your 2026 travel calendar around what’s on the plate, Boston just made the shortlist, and it’s in very good company.
