What a weekend, cooking at @oldpharmacybruton was beyond an honour! Made a bunch of japanese dishes for sunday sessions with their beautiful farm produce (which made the best salad ever), had such an amazing team (@zsubidu @eyespysteakandkidneypie @c.wh1te), been smiling all day. Couldn’t have done it without my ultimate KP @kaitpark - the best sous, biggest comedian and smiliest girl by my side! Weekend was made 800 times more fun and memorable. Couldn’t be more grateful, london pop up on weds then back to tokyo for some r&r haha

Japan is so much cheaper at the moment, thanks to a weak yen, dining out feels casual. A local izakaya I love is Sukesada, I try to go here once every week or two. I always order sashimi without fail, maguro (tuna), ika (squid), the negitoro maki (fatty tuna with spring onion roll), shishamo - grilled small fish, you eat the whole thing and dip in mayo, that’s a favourite. I actually have hundreds of pins of restaurants in Tokyo, way more than I’ll ever be able to get through! Japan is so much cheaper at the moment, thanks to a weak yen, dining out feels casual. A local izakaya I love is Sukesada, I try to go here once every week or two. I always order sashimi without fail, maguro (tuna), ika (squid), the negitoro maki (fatty tuna with spring onion roll), shishamo - grilled small fish, you eat the whole thing and dip in mayo, that’s a favourite. Smashed out my first ever xmas roast: lemon salt chicken (inspired by @millitaylor the queen of easy to follow cooking); crispiest roast potatoes (par boiled then @waitrose crispy potato seasoning is a 10); @drstingshothoney hot honey roasted parsnips and carrots; tenderstem (boring but whatever); braised cabbage with @odysea_ltd pomegranate vinegar wow, dates, star anise and cinnamon; cheddar and cream leeks and then gravy was all the chickeny juices plus gravy granules lol cheat code but it’s only two of us. Dessert was rhubarb frangipane tart DONEZO!

“Drinking culture is pretty heavy in Tokyo. I’ve never actually worked in Japan where “nomikai” (drinking parties) are common but we do love a drink here in Tokyo, as much as London. Eating and drinking in Japan often go in tandem, making it easier to eat your way around the city. There’s a great natural wine and ice cream spot just down the road called Kasiki. Loads of their ice creams have tea flavour based and seasonal fruits are used. There’s definitely a more relaxed approach to natural wine in Japan. My favourite Japanese wine producer is no. 505 Hiroshima Winery - they have such a range of wines and really cute branding.
