Wandering aimlessly is something that isn’t often done these days. We always have a plan. We’re always going somewhere. We always have something to do. While in Grand Marais, I decided to forget all of that and simply wander. No plan, no destination, no time limit. And boy, was it refreshing. To not have a care in the world about my next plan. It allows you to be present. To take in the little details around you. It heightens your senses. It slows you down. It allows you to really live. On that walk, I took these photos. Originally built in the 1800’s, this building provided flour to the community of northern Michigan for nearly a century! It then sat vacant for over 30 years before a team came in and saw the potential. It has been painstakingly restored as a fresh gathering spot/coffee shop/restaurant/lounge. Inside you’ll find the incredibly rustic and beautifully restored coffee shop on the main level, a members lounge on the second and third floors, and Supper, which features decadent American cuisine (I cannot recommend eating here enough!!) all sitting right alongside a beautiful babbling brook!
