Life update ❤️‍🩹 I won’t be competing in the final World Cups over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be cheering from home instead! Last week I had surgery to remove a tumour from my kidney. The surgery went really well and I’m on the mend. I’m super grateful to the incredible medical staff for their care and expertise – thank you Dr Mohan Arianayagam and his team, and Dr Stephen Nolan, Dr Parrapil, the amazing nurses and physios at Norwest, Dr Scott Reid, my physio Tony and psych Chris, and our Paddle Aus team for their support. And of course my wonderful family and friends 🥰❤️ It’s been a whirlwind over the last few weeks, but I’m all good - just a couple of gnarly new scars, a bit less kidney, and a whole lot more toughness 😉 I’m feeling positive, super grateful and happy to be home. Looking forward to taking it easy over the next few weeks as I recover, and building towards being back on the water again 💛💪🏽

Time to fall in love with the comeback, the slow progress. After surgery to remove a kidney tumour, I had to listen to my body and stop, rest and heal. First it’s slow movement, mobility. Then it’s push ups on your knees, then one on your toes. Adding light weights. Starting back on the flatwater, then turning, and finally feeling the whitewater again. Can’t tell you how good that first easy float down the rapids felt 🥹 Step by step - it’s nice to be back out there with a great team around me. 💛

For the first time in 15 years, I won’t be on the startline at the world championships. Unfortunately, I just won’t be ready in time. I need to put my health and recovery first after surgery. I’m absolutely devastated to be missing this one - a world championships on my home course where I first watched my heroes at the Sydney Olympics, saw the first aussie world title by Rob Bell in 2005, the course where I’ve grown up and learnt to paddle, trained every day to be the best. A home worlds is a once in a career opportunity and I was so excited and looking forward to it. Life has a way of throwing curveballs when we least expect them, but I’ve learned that while we can’t always control what happens, we can always choose our attitude and perspective. I’m grateful for the resilience that sport has given me 😉. Timing is everything. This time, the timing just wasn’t on my side.. but you can be sure I’ll be doing my best to be back on the water and come back fit, strong and healthy when the time is right. Thank you to my team @paddleaus @alwayshuman, to my amazing sponsors for your ongoing support, understanding and care throughout this period @redbullau @grantthorntonaustralia @lorealparis @adidasau @toyota_aus @sydneywater 💛 And for all the love and support coming my way and lifting me up during this time. And to my teammates… go get ‘em ❤️💪🏽 Special shout out to the girls Kate and Noemie- We are the reigning world champions in teams and I’m heartbroken to not be able to defend this one with you 💔 but can’t wait to see you shine on the water ✨ It will be a spectacular event. We are so proud to host the worlds best athletes in the next few weeks and I hope you’ll join me in cheering for our team as they take on the world at home. 29th September - 4th of October at Penrith Whitewater. Get your tickets at sydney2025 .com - We want you there! I may not be racing, but you can bet I’ll be the best cheerleader I can be.
