Volleyball has been a part of my life since I was 10 years old. It was my first love, my longest relationship, and one of the greatest influences in shaping who I am today. It gave me purpose, passion, and the courage to dream bigger.

When I first picked up a volleyball, I never imagined where it would take me. I am grateful for the achievements and awards I’ve earned along the way, but the greatest gift volleyball has given me is the person I’ve become. It taught me many life skills and lessons that continue to guide me both on and off the court.

Being active has always been a part of my lifestyle, but chasing dreams has always been my driving force. As the daughter of immigrant parents who left the Philippines to build a better life in Canada, I grew up inspired by their courage, sacrifice, and determination. Two years ago, I took a leap of faith and came to the Philippines to pursue my own dreams, carrying with me the same resilience and willingness to put my self out of my comfort zone.

The journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been moments of doubt, sacrifice, and challenges that tested me. But through it all, volleyball remains my first love. It continues to give me purpose, and pushes me to become the best version of myself. I know my story is still being written, there are still dreams I am chasing, and goals I am working toward!

Can I be vulnerable for a second?

It may not look like it on social media, but the beginning of this year really tested me. I was struggling mentally, and a lot has happened in my personal life that made me question if I can keep going.

I think a lot of athletes can relate when there comes a time in their career where they ask if they still love their sport, if they can keep sacrificing their time, effort, and body, and if it’s still worth going?

I struggled answering all these questions and figuring out what I wanted in my life. It’s hard being away from my family and friends, it’s hard showing up to workouts when I’m too tired. It’s hard to cancel out the noise from negative criticism and the pressure other people put on me. It’s hard to take care of myself mentally, physically and spiritually, when sometimes all I want to do is hide and avoid it all.

But what I learned is sometimes I don’t need to have it all figured out. Being an athlete has taught me that I have the resilience to do hard things and that discipline is showing up even when the motivation fades. I also leaned more on my faith and found peace in knowing Jesus has a plan for me and to trust in Him 🤍
