I felt it moving to new schools, not making cheer or dance company, becoming a mom at a young age, and growing up in a low-income Latina family in an all-white, wealthy high school. I did everything I could to fit in. But if I could go back, I’d tell my younger self: the things that make you different will carry you the farthest.
