Save and share for your next trip! 🇩🇪

This gorge hike needs to be on your bucketlist for coming summer! 😍

📍 Höllentalklamm
Here’s everything you need to know before going:

🥾 Trail Length: about 10 km total: 4 km from Hammersbach to the gorge entry one way and the gorge itself is about 1 km long.

🥵 Difficulty: Intermediate with about 500m elevation gain until you reach the gorge, it’s not an easy walk but definitely doable

📅 Opening times: Usually mid May to mid October (check official website for up to date info)

💸 Price: 2025 it was 7,50€ entry per person and parking in Hammersbach is also paid

🧥 What to bring: rainproof jacket (it’s very wet and cold in the gorge), sturdy shoes, waterproof backpack

If you fancy a longer and more difficult hike, you can continue after the gorge all the way to the highest mountain in Germany from here - Zugspitze. ⛰

There’s also many other beautiful places in the area to visit such as the Eibsee, so make sure to stick around for a bit.

Some of Austria’s most beautiful lakes are SO close to each other and perfect for a little roadtrip to check them all out! 😍

Follow @isabella.aroundtheworld for more daily travel inspiration, itineraries and hidden gems! ✨

1. Altausseer See
2. Gosausee
3. Hallstätter See
4. Wolfgangsee
5. Fuschlsee
6. Mondsee
7. Attersee
8. Traunsee

There’s many more smaller lakes in the area as well that might be worth a quick stop!

Depending how much time you got, what season it is, etc - this trip can be done in 2 days, 7 days or 14 days! However much you want. 😅

They are all very, very close to each other, so you can do it pretty quickly but I’d recommend maximum 2 places per day, so at least 4 days in the area.

If you’re into hiking, there’s some epic peaks with lake views ij the area as well! 😍

A road trip you need to do at least once in your life: Tuscany edition 🇮🇹🤌

Day 1️⃣
Start in Lucca, an underrated Tuscan gem, then head into the countryside. End the day in the fairytale town of Certaldo.
Tip: If it’s your first time, add 1–2 days in Florence at the start.

Day 2️⃣
Early morning in San Gimignano before the crowds. Continue to Colle di Val d’Elsa for the Sentierelsa Trail — perfect to cool off midday. If you have time, stop in Volterra and stay for sunset.

Day 3️⃣
Explore Siena in the morning, then visit Buonconvento. Finish the day in Crete Senesi for one of the most iconic sunsets in Tuscany.

Day 4️⃣
Scenic drive through Val d’Orcia with plenty of cypress photo stops. Walk to the Vitaleta Chapel, then head to Pienza, one of my favorite fairytale towns. Stay overnight if you can — sunsets here are unreal.

Day 5️⃣
Morning in Montepulciano, famous for its wine. Drive on to Monticchiello, my favorite hidden gem, then stop in Castiglione d’Orcia. Sunset at the Orcia viewpoint.

Day 6️⃣
Very early start for Terme di Saturnia — arrive at sunrise to avoid crowds. Free, beautiful, and worth the soak. Continue to Montemerano and end in Pitigliano, an incredible town built on volcanic rock.

You could easily spend another week on this route — there are so many more fairytale towns to explore ✨

📍 Vorderer & Hinterer Gosausee

I recommend doing this hike in spring or summer on a clear day.

- Distance: 13.2 km return

- Difficulty: Easy - Intermediate (uphill between the two lakes but other than that mostly flat

- Altitude gain: apx. 400m

- Parking: At Vorderer Gosausee (paid 24/7 since 2025, but free if you park further down the road)

If you’re going on a warm day in summer, I highly recommend going swimming once you get back from the hike to Vorderer Gosausee. The water is amazing 😍💦

This country in Europe is often overlooked but it’s actually sooo worth a visit!

I recently took a roadtrip through Croatia, Montenegro and Albania and added some stops in Bosnia & Herzegovina! And I’m so happy I did! 😍

Here’s some places I recommend checking out if you’re visiting for the first time:

- Mostar
- Blagaj
- Pocitelj
- Kravica waterfalls
- Stolac
- Medugorje
- Kocusa waterfalls

Is Bosnia & Herzegovina on your bucketlist yet? 😍

One of my favourites in Switzerland:

📍Appenzell
Wasserauen - Seealpsee - Schäfler - Wasserauen

🥵 Difficulty: Intermediate - Hard
🥾 Length: 14.5 km | ~ 7 hours
📈 Elevation gain: apx. 1.000m

There’s also the option to take the cable car from Wasserauen to Ebenalp, hike to Schäfler and then down to Seealpsee and back to save lots of time and elevation gain.

But as always: Hiking up is fun and saves you 💸

The hike up to Seealpsee is not too strenous and gets really busy in summer. Take a swim there and admire the views, then hike a relatively short but very steep trail up to Schäfler.

The views up there are amazing and you can even stay overnight at “Berggasthaus Schäfler” to experience the sunset there.

Then head back down to Wasserauen via Ebenalp and Aescher guesthouse. (also amazing for photos)

I recommend at least 7 days for this itinerary to enjoy it to the fullest. Can also easily be 14 days though, there is SO much to do in these areas:

1. Lucerne
2. Stoos
3. Lake Lungern
4. Aareschlucht
5. Rosenlaui & Gletscherschlucht
6. Brienz
7. Grindelwald
8. Lauterbrunnen
9. Kandersteg (& Lake Oeschinensee)
10. Thun
11. Bern

Since public transportation is great in Switzerland, you can also do most of this places quite easily without car. Trains are pretty expensive in Switzerland though, so I prefer using my own car to visit all these places.

Will share a more detailed itinerary with all must visit hikes, hidden gems etc. along the way soon on my blog - so follow along to not miss it!

A roadtrip you need to do at least once in your life: Rhine & Moselle valleys with gorgeous little fairytale towns, stunning landscapes, vineries and lots of impressive castles!

You can do this itinerary in 2-7 days, depending how much time you got and how detailed you want to see the places. You can also split the roadtrip up into two sections along the Rhine and along the Moselle

Here are some of my favourite places to visit along the way, but there are many more fairytale towns & castles you will pass by along the way:

- Eltville
- Rüdesheim am Rhein
- Rheinstein Castle
- Bacharach
- Pfalzgrafenstein Castle
- Sankt Goar
- Burg Eltz
- Cochem
- Beilstein
- Bernkastel-Kues

I absolutely fell in love with this area of Germany and definitely want to go back there during fall and explore more!

If you want to visit Bosnia & Herzegovina (and you should) but only have limited time and want to explore for 3-4 days coming from Croatia - this is perfect for you! Of course, there is muuuuuch more to see in Bosnia & Herzegovina and I am definitely planning to explore more myself but this is a great starting point.

Let’s get right into it:

day 1:
Mostar - the most beautiful old town I’ve ever seen
Stay here for a night, stroll around during day- and night time to experience the magic of both!
Try to avoid summer months and weekends + holidays to avoid the crowds. Sunrise & sunset time are the most magical!

day 2:
Blagaj & Stolac
Drive 20 min to Blagaj and visit the cute little town and famous Dervish monastery. Have a coffee & lunch by the river and enjoy the views!
Then head to the amazing hidden gem of Stolac. A small, picturesque town with several waterfalls, hardly any tourists at all and several UNSECO sites!

day 3:
Pocitelj & Kravica
The next day explore the beautiful old town of Pocitelj - views here will leave you speechless, it’s like time just stood still here! Then head to the GORGEOUS Kravica waterfalls, take in the amazing views and go for a refreshing swim or take a boat ride!
Optional stop on the way: Medugorje - one of the most important pilgrimage sites for christians. You can of course also add an additional night here, if you want to do some of the pilgrimage hikes & walks etc.
