Home sweet home for Lindsay for the next 9 months! 🏠
It was a true (7 hr) labor of love putting her room together on Friday.
Ironically, I saw a news clip on The Today Show this week that people are hiring designers to set up dorm rooms for them.
In the 90’s, my mom dropped me off with my stuff & said goodbye. I set up my dorm room myself, which looked nothing like this btw. 🤣
I have absolutely LOVED setting up all of my kids dorm rooms! We blast music, sweat, laugh, and bond with their roommates parents. I personally wouldn’t trade that day spent together for the entire world.
It makes my mama heart so happy that she has a cozy, comfortable space to call home when she’s away from our home.

Just walked into Lindsay’s room and found gobs of notes for a final exam today taped to her bedroom wall.🤯
I’ve always stressed the importance of working hard to my kids.
Sometimes we don’t get the job we want, the promotion we hoped for, the grade we needed, or even admission into our dream school.
But hard work is more than those outcomes. It teaches lessons of grit, determination, flexibility, resilience & dedication.
I’ve made/make PLENTY mistakes as a mom, but one thing I hope I got through to them before they leave home, is how important working hard is; before and regardless of the outcome. 👊

Yesterday, Z and Jeff overhead some moms talking about me at a luncheon after graduation.
They were saying while they saw me crying (actually, if you are going to talk about me please get your story straight because I was literally SOBBING) during the graduation ceremony, they were so ready for their kids to move on and leave home.
Graduation season is a great time to remember that everyone grieves differently. There is no one way to process the huge life shift happening when your child graduates and prepares to leave home. While you might see just another 18 year old graduating from high school, I see my little Kindergartner flipping her tassel from left to right and walking into her adult life.
I am so proud of Lindsay
BUT it also feels so strange to watch the center of my whole entire life change.
Yesterday was the end of an era for me. Almost 23 years of being a stay at home mom, where every moment of every single day revolved around 3 precious humans relying on me for everything.
I didn’t have kids to make my life easier. I chose to have children to create something bigger than me. To enrich my world. To build a family. To spend all of my days loving and being loved.
The identity of being a mom for the past two decades is so deeply intertwined in within me. Back to school shopping, PTA meetings, after school activities, homework assignments, family dinners, winter vacation, teaching them how to drive, applying for college and so much more.
I find myself wondering what I’m going to do everyday at 3pm when there won’t be anyone to share an after school snack with.
Yes, I have plenty of other things to do, but nothing compares to how I feel when I’m doing something for and/or with my family.
If you are struggling with this season in your life, I see you. If you are thrilled with this new chapter in your life, I see you too. There is space for all of us and all the feels, yesterday, today and tomorrow. 🫶

✨MONDAY MOOD✨
Lindsay’s FDOC is today.
Last night was the first “night before the first day of school” since 2012 that we didn’t have a family meeting and sign our family contract of expectations for the year. When Z went to college we continued it with the girls. When Shay left, we signed it with Linds. 🥺
I’m often asked about my parenting style in comments and my DMs and figured this was a great way to share.
PARENTING IS HARD. SO HARD.
I didn’t have kids to make my life easier. I’ve said that since the day Z was born and I stand by it each and every day. It’s hard and consistent work.
It’s so much easier to give in and say yes to your kids, especially when emotions are running high, but in my experience, kids need STRUCTURE, DISCIPLINE, BOUNDARIES & lots of LOVE.
I am not a perfect parent. Newsflash, none of us are. I have given in when I didn’t want to, gone back on my word and made bad decisions in the heat of the moment. But I strive to be the best I can be every day and with every situation that arises. Do I sometimes fail, YES, lots! We all do. But failure is growth.
What I do know, is that whether they know it or not, kids actually thrive with rules. My kids were the last to get social media; they turned their phones into me for years at 9pm nightly; they had bedtimes in high school; they wore helmets bike riding when others didn’t…
Their friends told them I was CRAZY and CONTROLLING etc. Was that hard for me/us?Absolutely. Did I care? Not one bit. 🤷♀️
Now, the big kids thank me for the boundaries that paved the way for them to be able manage and control their own lives when they went to college and live on their own.
Whatever parenting style you choose, my advice is be consistent. Be mindful. Try to think before you react. Think of me on your hardest days (in the midst of the chaos), in my quiet house.
And remember, BE YOU. Only YOU know what’s right for YOUR family. Give yourself GRACE, LOVE EACH OTHER HARD and most importantly, enjoy the ride. 🫶
