But first some serious business Recently a collection operating under the name Neko Food Maker launched on Scatter, and as we do with all collections on our platform, we engaged in good faith and did what we could to help promote them. Some time after the mint began, it was brought to our attention that the collection was using stolen assets with little to no changes. This is in direct violation of our ToS and upon learning we acted accordingly, removing the project from the platform and removing all promo from our twitter feed. We sincerely apologize to our users who minted and especially anybody who minted due to our boosting of the project. Going forward we will be introducing new vetting procedures before collections receive any direct engagement from the Scatter Twitter. We've always tried to assume the best of creators that come to us directly and until now that has served us well, but this incident has woken us up to the fact that there are simply too many bad actors in this industry to always assume the best of people. We take the rights of artists and the trust of our users very seriously, they are the keystones of Scatter's foundation. The abolition of royalties in NFT markets seemed initially a win for users. However, at the same time, it (likely unintentionally) took away one of the principle value props for artists to distribute their works as NFTs vs traditional mediums. So while users/collectors were able to operate more cheaply, the quality of projects diminished overall with one of the largest pulls for established artists to enter the space having gone away. This is why quality NFT collections we see now come almost strictly from dedicated hobbyist onchain natives. Yes there was a major bubble, yes speculation got out of control, but it should not be underplayed that the race to zero on royalties by entities like Opensea, Blur, and others, destroyed one of the major benefits NFTs provided to artists, thereby slowing and ultimately shrinking the prospective talent pool of people creating on-chain art. If we can, once again, create incentives for creators outside of just dedicated blockchain hobbyists to harness NFTs as a medium for their work, the sector can thrive once more. More on this soon
