In gestational surrogacy, the embryo does not belong to the surrogate. She carries the pregnancy, but she is not the baby’s genetic mother. Ask this instead: "Are you doing this for the money?" gets asked constantly, and it's the wrong question. Financial instability actually disqualifies a candidate, precisely so money is never the reason she says yes. The better question is simpler: what made you want to do this for someone else? That one usually gets an honest answer, and the honest answer is almost always a person's face, not a number. Compensation is real, and it's never something a surrogate should feel embarrassed to ask about. It's just not why she opens the application. I heard about them from a family friend, I called, they asked if I qualified, I said yes, and that was the whole process. Nothing went horrifically wrong.
