Thumb Tuck Fastball Tucking the thumb is a way to get your thumb out of the equation when throwing the ball. So at release, your only contact to the ball is your 2 fingers ripping down on the seams and creating pure backspin. I will say, this is more of a pitch than a catch play tool. It has to be thrown hard, similar to how you can’t always throw offspeed pitches lightly, the thumb tuck needs to be thrown in a bullpen or game setting to get the full effect. After a short adjustment period, this is how I throw all of my hardest pitches, long toss, and pulldowns. But it may not be for everybody. Hand size and thumb mobility play a major role in the ability to throw this pitch. However I’ve show some friends who are still not able to get a good feel for it even though they have gigantic hands. ⬇️ Tips & A Story ⬇️ Thumb Tuck Fastball Story I had never heard of this until college, then one day I saw an article about big time pitchers doing my this. That day I tucked my thumb on my fastball, threw several innings of shutout baseball against U of Hawaii and literally never stopped. Some people can do this, some can’t, dependent on their hand size and thumb flexibility. But pitchers like Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Jacob DeGrom all tuck the thumb on their fastball. Tips ⬇️ Thumb Tuck Fastball ☄️ - Try to release from both fingertips at the same time. - I try and pull straight down on the seams to create 12:00 backspin. - Every other pitch should be thrown with the same intesity. Power Circle Change ⭕️ - Same arm speed as fastball. - Pinky up on the side to prevent slipping out the side. - Slight pronation at release. Curveball ⤵️ - Throw it hard like a fastball, and at release, supinate and pull down on that seam with your middle finger. - Some people take their index finger off the ball, but I wouldn’t, to make sure the hitter couldn’t see that coming. Slider 🛝 - As a supinator, this is my best and most accurate pitch. - I try and get my hand as far to the side of the ball as I can while still maintaining maximum grip strength on the ball. Cutter (or Cut Fastball) 🔪 - I hold mine exactly the same as a fastball, but with the ball sitting crooked in my hand. - Try and “turn the doorknob” a bit, or supinate at release. #Baseball #Pitcher #Pitching #Reels #Explore #Breakdown
