WHY VEJA NOW PRODUCES IN PORTUGAL?​ In 2022, VEJA launched the Aegean Project: sneakers made in Europe, sold in Europe.​ The V-82, our latest model, is manufactured in Portugal.​ We work with a high-standard factory where the average salary is $1045 per month for a 40-hour workweek.​ In Portugal, the minimum wage is $1015 per month, and employees receive 14 salaries a year:​ 12 monthly salaries​ 1 for vacation pay 1 for Christmas pay​ For comparison, here is the situation in the 10 largest garment-supplying countries in the EU market, sorted by minimum wage:​ Country (Minimum Monthly Wage)​ China: $370​ Morocco: $316​ Cambodia: $208​ Vietnam: $193​ India: $160​ Tunisia: $157​ Pakistan: $132​ Bangladesh: $102​ Myanmar: $91.47​ Source: Trading Economics​ Since 2023, we’ve produced 95,000 pairs of sneakers in Portugal.
