Joseph A. Manzi, 78, of Atlantic Highlands, allegedly used church credit cards and cash funds for personal expenses while serving as the church’s director of finance, operations, and development. His employment ended in June 2025 after an internal audit uncovered financial irregularities, triggering a state investigation. According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Manzi spent over $300,000 on church credit cards and diverted about $200,000 in cash between 2019 and 2025. The alleged spending included a Cadillac SUV, luxury clothing, home repairs, medical bills, fishing trips, and sports tickets. Attorney General Matthew Platkin said Manzi “used his position of trust to live a more lavish lifestyle,” adding that such conduct “will not be tolerated.” Manzi was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, which carries a possible sentence of five to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $150,000. Joseph A. Manzi, 78, of Atlantic Highlands, allegedly used church credit cards and cash funds for personal expenses while serving as the church’s director of finance, operations, and development. His employment ended in June 2025 after an internal audit uncovered financial irregularities, triggering a state investigation. According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Manzi spent over $300,000 on church credit cards and diverted about $200,000 in cash between 2019 and 2025. The alleged spending included a Cadillac SUV, luxury clothing, home repairs, medical bills, fishing trips, and sports tickets. Attorney General Matthew Platkin said Manzi “used his position of trust to live a more lavish lifestyle,” adding that such conduct “will not be tolerated.” Manzi was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, which carries a possible sentence of five to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $150,000.
