And what always stood out to me from the start was the wand. My product developer brain clocked immediately that she’s shaped a little differently than the classic wire brushes we’re all used to. So yes, I’m late to the party but I wanted to get her back on my lashes and really show why so many people love this mascara. You can get right up to the lash line, comb through evenly, and the wand holds a lot of bulk without getting messy. As a product developer, the very first thing I clock when I’m scanning a shelf is packaging, and this applicator immediately stood out to me because I could tell it was custom and not something stock I’ve seen done before in the USA market. They did something genuinely novel here by expanding on one of their most iconic franchises in a way that feels very on-brand and very intentional, and I think longtime Benefit fans are going to appreciate this. NEW VS ORIGINAL EVALUATION 👀 As we all probably know by now, @esteelauder reformulated their iconic Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation after 30 years of it remaining untouched. We got so many requests asking for a side by side eval of the original vs. the new formula, so after months of secretly evaluating her, here’s what stood out to me as a product developer myself. If you’re an OG Double Wear lover, the biggest differences to me was that the new formula takes two layers to reach the same full coverage the original gave in one. And because she now has more skincare built in, she’s no longer that bone-dry matte the original was. She’s still matte, BUT with a softer finish that leaves a subtle sheen as she settles throughout the day. On my skin, with my personal foundation preferences, I see this as a big upgrade. Mostly because it feels more modern and moves with your skin versus just settling on top and getting patchy. But what do you all think? When I see videos from that time, I feel a strange ache. Not because I looked “bad,” but because how I showed up didn’t always match how I felt inside. A quiet kind of dysmorphia. A disconnect between who I was becoming and who the camera caught. I never chased a public platform. It found me. And I’m always choosing to show up in my own way. Authentic ❤️ Looking back, I catch myself judging past versions of me who were just trying to stay safe. I’m learning to hold those versions with more tenderness instead of critique. Compassion is part of healing. Makeup saved me in ways I didn’t expect. It helped me see myself when I felt disconnected from my body. And it still does. So if today means anything to me, it’s this:

I personally haven’t seen this style of packaging used for a loose powder before, so naturally my product developer brain got the best of me 😂 I had to crack it open and see exactly how it worked. But don’t worry, no powder was wasted! And surprisingly, this ended up being one of the cleanest deconstructions we’ve done compared to some of the others. I can definitely appreciate the engineering that went into making all of these components work together. It’s clear the team put a lot of thought into creating a unique dispensing system and I’m all for innovation! That said, it’s not something I’d personally reach for. Knowing you can’t access every last bit of product without eventually breaking the package open isn’t my favorite design choice. If you absolutely love the formula, the application experience, or you’re just a fan of the brand, that tradeoff may not matter to you at all though. DECONSTRUCTING @toofaced’s new Peach Roller Ball Powder we got in PR 🍑👀 Beauty queens, this was such an interesting one to take apart. I personally haven’t seen this style of packaging used for a loose powder before, so naturally my product developer brain got the best of me 😂 I had to crack it open and see exactly how it worked. But don’t worry, no powder was wasted! And surprisingly, this ended up being one of the cleanest deconstructions we’ve done compared to some of the others. I can definitely appreciate the engineering that went into making all of these components work together. It’s clear the team put a lot of thought into creating a unique dispensing system and I’m all for innovation! That said, it’s not something I’d personally reach for. Knowing you can’t access every last bit of product without eventually breaking the package open isn’t my favorite design choice.
