Steven Spielberg WALKED AWAY From Harry Potter 😱
While promoting his new 2026 film Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg reflected on one of the biggest “what ifs” in Hollywood history.
In the late 1990s, Spielberg had begun the process of developing and casting Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. But everything changed when his close friend, legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, passed away in 1999.
Kubrick had spent years developing A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), but never lived to see it made. According to Spielberg, the request came during Kubrick’s funeral: would he finish the project his friend had devoted so much of his life to?
Spielberg said yes.
That decision meant walking away from Harry Potter.
Instead of heading to Hogwarts, Spielberg chose to honor his friend’s final vision and directed A.I. Artificial Intelligence, which went on to earn nearly $236 million worldwide at the box office. (Wikipedia)
Meanwhile, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was directed by Chris Columbus and launched one of the most successful franchises in entertainment history, grossing over $970 million worldwide and spawning an eight-film saga that would define a generation.
But for Spielberg, the decision was never about box office numbers, or legacy but simply helping an old friend complete the final project he left behind. And because of that choice, movie history was changed forever.

Meet your new Ginny Weasley Bonnie Hill 👩🏻🦰
Bonnie Hill ( @bonniehillofficial ) has officially been cast as Ginny Weasley beginning with Season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and now we’re getting a much better look at the actress who will be taking on the role.
Because before the casting was announced, Bonnie actually sat down for a podcast episode with her own management agency, Northern Prep Squad.
And this gives us a rare chance to actually hear from Bonnie herself before all Harry Potter fans knew her name.
During the conversation, you get a much better sense of her personality, her acting background and just how comfortable she already is in front of a camera and microphone.
Bonnie already had acting experience before Harry Potter, including roles in The Six Triple Eight, Film Club and Girl Troop versus Aliens.
And weirdly enough, in Girl Troop versus Aliens, her character was also named Ginny. Now she’ll officially take over the role from Gracie Cochrane beginning with Chamber of Secrets, which is exactly where Ginny becomes a much more important character in the story.
So while we haven’t actually seen Bonnie playing Ginny yet, this podcast may be our best opportunity so far to get to know the actress behind the newest member of the Weasley family.

HBO Fixes Color Grading For Harry Potter TV Series 🥹
HBO has updated the color grading in the newest Harry Potter TV Series ad spot.
Several shots shown previously now look noticeably brighter and warmer, especially inside Hogwarts. The Great Hall has more golden tones, darker areas have more visible detail, and colors throughout the footage appear richer than they did in the original teaser.
This also lines up with comments from cinematographer Adriano Goldman, who previously said the episodes were still being edited and that the final color work was still being adjusted.
Goldman has also explained that the series is aiming for a visual contrast between the colder, paler Muggle world and a warmer Hogwarts, so this newest footage may be a better indication of what the finished series will actually look like.
Either way, the difference is pretty noticeable ⚡️

Harry Potter TV Series Forbidden Forest Filming Location ⚡️
The Crown Estate Windsor Great Park | Berkshire, England 📌
Another filming location used for the Harry Potter TV series is Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, England. Known for its sprawling woodland, ancient trees and rolling landscapes, the park makes a pretty convincing stand-in for the grounds surrounding Hogwarts and, more specifically, the Forbidden Forest.
Cast and crew were spotted filming around the wooded areas of the park, suggesting Windsor Great Park was used for several scenes taking place beyond the castle grounds.
One sequence believed to have been filmed here is Harry, Hermione, Neville and Draco’s detention in the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid following the whole Norbert disaster. Because apparently sending eleven-year-olds into a monster-filled forest at night is a perfectly reasonable school punishment.
The location also appears to have been used for Snape’s confrontation with Professor Quirrell following the Quidditch match, with the snowy woodland providing the backdrop for one of Harry’s earliest suspicions that Snape is trying to steal the Philosopher’s Stone.
Windsor Great Park could end up being one of the most recognizable outdoor locations in Season 1, giving us our first real look at how the new series will bring the darker areas surrounding Hogwarts to life.

The Hunt For Ginny Weasley is Officially OVER ⚡️
The initial casting call for Ginny Weasley has now officially closed.
HBO will now move through callbacks from agency-backed actresses, review their finalists, and likely bring back a handful of favorites before making a final decision.
With Season 2 (Chamber of Secrets) expected to begin filming in September, the clock is ticking. Child actors need time to prepare before stepping onto set, meaning production only has a relatively small window left to lock in one of the series’ biggest remaining roles.
My expectation is that a decision won’t be far away. When HBO chooses to announce it is another question entirely. Once House of the Dragon wraps up its current marketing cycle, I’d expect HBO to shift its attention back toward Harry Potter with more casting announcements, new footage, and plenty of surprises.

What if HBO is using wand design to show when a wand was made? 👀
The older witches and wizards we’ve seen so far seem to carry much more natural, branch-like wands. The couple on the bridge have them. Snape’s wand is thin, simple and minimally decorated, fitting a wand he likely received in the 1970s. And the mysterious witch & wizard filmed on the rooftop in what appears to be a 1981 scene are both carrying another rough, organic-looking wands Then there’s Neville Longbottom
Unlike Harry, Draco and the other students, Neville didn’t start Hogwarts with a newly purchased wand. His belonged to his father, Frank Longbottom, and his new HBO wand looks noticeably older, rougher and more branch-like than the others.
So could wand styles actually change with the decades?
Maybe the 60s and 70s favored natural, almost untouched pieces of wood, while by the 1990s wand designs had become cleaner and more polished. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but if this is intentional, it’s an insanely subtle piece of worldbuilding.
A wand might not only tell us who owns it but it might also tell us when they bought it.

And yes, somehow Ginny Weasley is once again being played by an actress named Bonnie.
Hill is still relatively new to the industry, but she already has credits including The Six Triple Eight, Film Club, Girl Troop versus Aliens and Mittens & Pants.
And in one of those weird little coincidences that feels almost too perfect, she previously played a character named Ginny in Girl Troop versus Aliens.
Season 2 is where Ginny’s story really begins to expand, with her first year at Hogwarts, Tom Riddle’s diary and the mystery surrounding the Chamber of Secrets placing her directly at the center of the story.
That means this is going to be a massive step up from Ginny’s much smaller role in Philosopher’s Stone.

Details You May Have Missed In The Harry Potter TV Series Trailer 👀
The second trailer gave us a much better look at just how much attention is being paid to the smaller details of the Wizarding World ⚡️
One of the most interesting details is the difference between Harry and Ron’s Hogwarts letters. Harry’s letter is noticeably larger, while Ron’s is much smaller. The important difference is how they’re delivered. Harry, still living completely within the Muggle world, receives his through ordinary mail. Ron, growing up in a wizarding household, receives his by owl. That raises the possibility that wizarding post uses smaller envelopes because they’re actually designed to be carried by owls.
Then there’s the Mirror of Erised. In the films, Harry’s focus is largely on James and Lily. But in the new series, the mirror appears to contain a much larger Potter family surrounding him. That is a major little detail because the book describes Harry seeing far more of the family he never had the chance to know. You can also get a much clearer look at Lily, including her hair, which appears to be leaning closer toward the way she is described in the books.
And then there’s one of my favorite pieces of production design in the entire trailer. Look closely at the Hogwarts house tables during the morning post delivery. Built directly into the tables are small owl perches, giving the birds somewhere to land and rest while delivering letters and packages to students. It’s such a ridiculously specific detail, but that’s exactly why it works.
