One of the best things about travel is the rituals I get to carry home with me. And mate might just be my favorite hehe

Mate is so much more than a drink in Argentina. It’s social currency!!! It’s how people start their mornings, pass their afternoons, and show someone they care. It’s communal in a way that feels almost countercultural in a world where everything is increasingly individual.

I even have a friend I met in Argentina that pointed out how cool it was to see the local teenagers catching the sunset together with mate in hand vs a pack of beers like so many of us see in our own cultures.. and that’s a point that has truly never left me since :)

Have you ever tried mate?? Did I miss anything?🧉🇦🇷

One of the world’s most underrated treks right here…

This is the Peaks of the Balkans!

📌 SAVE this:

You’ll need 10 days for the classic route (though I like to think of it more like a lil ‘choose your own adventure’ — more on that in my reel about my experience 😉) and it’ll take you across Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro.

Tips:

💶 Bring cash! Guesthouses are remote, family run, and don’t take card
🛏️ You can wild camp or book guesthouses to have all your food/accommodation handled along the way to save on weight
🎟️ You’re crossing borders throughout this trek, so you will need to organize border permits ahead of time just in case you get stopped!
🎒 Pack light but smart, warmer layers for the mornings/evenings were great. But it got HOT during the day.
🚌 Most people start in Theth, Albania (and do the popular Theth to Valbone hike as the first leg!), but definitely do all of your prep in Shkoder before
☀️The best season is June through September when the passes are snow free and guesthouses are open!

AND AS ALWAYS.. LEAVE NO TRACE 🚮

Have you heard of this one before? Or did it just make your list? Because trust me… it should.

Funny story (now that I’m back and finally able to have a lil R&R)… my IT band became completely inflamed by day 2 of this 9 day Peaks of the Balkans trek. Which entailed daily mountain passes that showed NO mercy whatsoever.

And for anyone who doesn’t know what that means, it’s a sharp, stabbing pain on the outside of your knee that occurs whenever it’s bent at like 30-45°

Which is ALWAYS when you’re hiking lol

But I kept going, because what else are you gonna do when you’re days deep into one of the most spectacular landscapes you’ve ever walked through and the only way out is forward anyway. And just, how convenient was it to find myself stumbling through patches of snow still clinging to the higher elevations and realizing we had a completely free, naturally occurring ice pack just sitting there.

So yes. I absolutely did sit down in the Albanian Alps and pressed a handful of snow directly onto my knee… And packed a little to go in an extra ziplock we had on hand to take with me to lunch 😌❄️🏔️

You know those places you walk into and you immediately feel like you belong?? Like you’re part of something bigger than yourself?!

That’s what @shkodrahostel did from day one.

Erjon and Rob have built something that genuinely reflects how much they love what they do. A whole experience that they’ve poured themselves into from the tours they’ve curated to the way they show up for every single person who walks through the door.

And that’s exactly why this place draws in the people who are here for the right reasons. Who will jump into freezing water and hike until their legs give out and stay up too late talking about life.

If you’re heading to Albania, @shkodrahostel is a MUST. Book the tours. Put yourself in good hands. Let them show you what this place is made of 🫶🫶

On our Doberdol to Milishevc leg of Peaks of the Balkans, we went a little off the standard hiking route looking for the tri-point where Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro all meet.

Insane 360° views aside… I have to say it was a littleeee anticlimactic hahahah

There weren’t any kinds of signs or markers dictating the point. I mean, it wasn’t even on the peak we climbed up to get to it.. just a random spot on the side of a mountain that our map said was technically the point where three countries converge.

I do still think it’s kinda fun to say I’ve stood in 3 countries at once though 🇦🇱🇽🇰🇲🇪

The Peaks of the Balkans might just be the best trek you’ve never heard of.. which is exactly why, before I share my itinerary, I have something I need to say!!! 📢📢

This trail is still relatively untouched.

As this trek grows in popularity (and it will) it becomes our responsibility to show up for it the right way. Leave no trace. Stay on the marked trails. Support the local guesthouses. Respect the land and the people who call it home.

The best way to make sure places like this stay this way is to love them properly. So, yes, go.. but GO WITH CARE!!

Now, here is exactly how I spent my 9 days on the trail:

📍 Day 1: Theth → Valbona
📍 Day 2: Valbona → Cerem via the Persllopi Pass (one of the most spectacular routes on the entire trail)
📍 Day 3: Cerem → Doberdol
📍 Day 4: Out & back to Gjeravica (Kosovo’s highest peak) before returning to Doberdol
📍 Day 5: Doberdol → Milishevc (with the option to stand at the tri-point where all three countries meet at once)
📍 Day 6: Milishevc → Babino Polje
📍 Day 7: Babino Polje → Plav, then transfer to Vusanje
📍 Day 8: Day trip into Grebaje Valley (we did a three peaks hike and I have nooo words)
📍 Day 9: Vusanje → Theth

SAVE this to plan your next alpine adventure ;)

When you live a life that is so… out of the ordinary to say the least lol you really, really learn value the people who GET IT.

And wouldn’t you know… my ex is one of those people hahaha

At the end of the day we’re cut from the same cloth. Nomadic, spontaneous, and chronically incapable of doing things the normal way. So when his new job pushed his start date and he had the idea to last minute send it to Bonnaroo… what exactly was I supposed to say? No??

There was no part of me that would ever withhold that experience from him. And I think we had one hell of a time back on the farm together 😌🌈🎶🧚🏼‍♀️

Episode 5 of Building a Nomad Proof Business ✈️

Comments are open if you want help thinking outside the box with your skills 👀 seriously, drop them below and I’ll help you workshop ideas.

Most people stop at “what am I good at?”
But if you can ask:

❓Who else needs this?
❓What problem does it solve for them?
❓Would they pay to have it off their plate?

I think you’re GOLDEN.

Take something as simple as being organized (my type A brain THRIVES here lol) but you might think… okay cool, that’s not really a “money-making” skill.

Except… when you look a little closer:
→ you could manage inboxes + calendars for busy founders
→ build Notion systems for creators or small businesses
→ help people plan trips, launches, or events
→ create templates that people can buy over and over again

Once you see that your skills aren’t one-dimensional… you stop feeling stuck.

So take the skills you wrote down from last week’s episode (or go find it & do it now 😉) and challenge yourself to come up with at least 3 ways you could use each one.

SEE YA NEXT WEEK 🤩

There’s this split second before someone has the chance to process what they’re looking at where everything else just drops away and what’s left is this completely unguarded, totally pure expression of wonder that you almost never get to see on an adult’s face in the real world.

Magic doesn’t have to make sense to be real. It is completely okay.. necessary, even, to stop everything you’re doing to watch a bubble float by and feel genuinely delighted by it!!! 🫧🫧

We spend so much of our adult lives trying to hold it together. To appear unfazed and in control and appropriately serious about the right things. And then a giant iridescent blob drifts past and all of that just dissolves for a second.

And I get to create that?! Talk about a lore drop, am I right?? 🤯✨

Thank you ALWAYS for the opportunity @_joyfulbubbles

If Chapada Diamantina isn’t on your Brazil itinerary yet… let this be your sign to ADD IT 🇧🇷

The Vale do Pati Circuit is a 3-day trek through one of the most untouched and underrated landscapes in all of South America. We’re talking dramatic valley views, hidden waterfalls, ancient caves, and open plains that stretch as far as you can see.

All inside a national park that has been protected for nearly 40 years.

And the best way to experience it is hands down with @chapadatrekking.

Here’s what made this trip genuinely special:

🌿 João, our guide, who knows this land deeply.. and that shows in every detail of the experience.

🌿 The logistics are completely taken care of. Each day on the trail, João prepared fresh picnic lunches for the group. Each night, we stayed in the homes of local families living in the valley who cooked our breakfasts and dinners.

🌿 A completely different side of Brazil. While the beaches get all the attention, this is the kind of place that reminds you just how vast and varied this country really is.

For anyone who wants to trek this region without having to figure it all out alone, Chapada Trekking Montanhismo is the team to go with. They handle your transfers, accommodations, meals, and guiding so all you have to do is show up and take it all in 😉

I’ve been sitting with this one for a few days before writing anything down because I wanted to make sure I was saying something real and not just riding the high of a really, REALLY good weekend.

And tbh.. this first week back has been tough 😅

There’s a special kind of sadness that comes with leaving something that felt that good and I don’t think it gets talked about it enough because it feels ungrateful somehow. But grief and gratitude can exist in the same breath. And saying goodbye to a weekend that left you feeling so full of love and light and LIFE is allowed to hurt.

I sat in bed after getting unpacking the last bit of evidence that this weekend even happened at all and just kind of… felt it. The jarring understanding that this, too, is now just a memory that will fade as time keeps passing us by.

And what’s ever harder is that we live in a world that is really good at pulling us straight back in before we’re ready. Monday arrives with a whole new set of obligations, completely unbothered by the fact that you just had one of the best weekends of your life.

But I’ve been trying to honor the transition this time instead of just white knuckling my way back to productivity, because the whole point of having your heart cracked open is to let something new in that gets to live there🌲🤍

Idk if I’ve just been living under a rock or didn’t do enough research.. but why is no one talking about how HARD it is to be walking along pavement for 25-30km a day constantly 😭😭

I swear the asphalt made the Camino harder on my body than any other long distance trek I’ve done before.. but we make do one way or another hahahah

[ad] Some people come home from a trip and move on. Personally… I come home and mourn it for six months minimum 😭

The places!!! The people!!! The person I was, and all the things I learned that allowed me to grow into who I am today!!! I hold onto all of it, probably too tightly. But I mean, how could I not??

@polarsteps is basically built for people like me. One app for every adventure that has become the best souvenir I’ve ever brought home 📝📸💭

Is this not like a universal traveler experience in Europe??

We (unfortunately lol) went through this quite a few times over the few days we spent together.. and I even asked one of our waiters if this happens often and he looked at me with the straightest face and said “no.” 😭😭😭

Are these hot takes?? 😅🔥

Because while I obviously love this life I get to live.. there are also parts that I really struggle with day to day. Ya know…

The performative side of it.

The way people forget what a gift it is to move so freely.

How easy it is to romanticize places without ever really seeing them.

Travel isn’t about consuming beauty. It’s about being HUMBLED by it.

It’s a real shame when we forget that the world doesn’t exist for us to take from, but to learn from. And that the more we explore, the more responsibility we have to tread gently. So that we can walk through with gratitude and reverence for the places that welcome us in 🌿

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I want to show up here online… because somewhere along the way this turned into a job where I felt the need to constantly be providing some sort of value in order to stay “relevant.”

Always offering something useful. Always packaging the experience.

But this is supposed to be FUN, right???

Anywayyyy. This lil dump is my way of taking back the part of me that just wants to share because I’m alive and it feels good hehe

The last couple weeks in Rio during Carnaval have been this BEAUTIFUL kind of chaos that is constantly loud & sweaty & glitter-covered.

And what it’s taught me is that life is not nearly as serious as we make it.

When you’re surrounded by millions of people flooding the streets just to celebrate being human you realize that everything still works. The world keeps spinning. The emails wait. The “important” things sort themselves out.

Like.. of course I don’t have to squeeze the joy out of my life just to prove I’m committed to my work???

I can care deeply and build intentionally. AND I can also dance in the street covered in glitter until sunrise in Brazil.

So maybe I don’t need to constantly “provide value” here. Maybe sometimes the value is just the reminder that we are, in fact, allowed to LIVE.

The internet doesn’t show you the comedown of long-term travel.. but let’s talk about it.

After 8 more months on the road, I have built some of the most unexpected, most meaningful connections of my life. People I met in hostels, on trails, in cities I’d never even heard of a year ago.

And somehow, in the way that long term travel does, we kept finding each other. Making memories that still don’t feel completely real when I look back at them.

And then, one by one, we all started saying our see you laters. Dispersing back to our own corners of the world, our own next chapters. And I stood there watching it happen and thought… yeah. It’s time.

That’s the thing about closing out a season this full. The crash is REAL.

When you’ve been living at that kind of pitch, your body and your heart eventually send you the bill. And mine came due all at once.

The best chapters always leave you a little wrecked on the way out, ya know?? But I think I needed to feel that. Because boyyy does it means it mattered <3

There are some places in life that feel like a remembering. @okeechobeefest has always been that for me.

It was my first ever camping festival… and year after year it always seemed to meet me right at the edge of whatever I was moving through at that time. Almost as if on purpose. Almost as if it knew.

And this year was no different, leaving me feeling transformed, yet again. (I mean.. they call the the portal for a reason, right? 🌀)

I went 9 months away from festivals this time around. And if you don’t know, that’s a longgg time for me lol
I think I realized, stepping back into an energy that is SO electric, that I had forgotten what it feels like to be completely taken by a moment.

The kind where the bass is in your chest and your feet move without thinking and nothing else in the world exists except the music and the people around you feeling it too.

Here at Okee 2026, I got to see my all time favorites play again (@griz @flipturnband). I got to be hit with the strongest wave of nostalgia, scream singing along to every song played by @thelumineers and @youngthegiant . I got to get down and weird and wonky with @lsdream and @biggigantic and so many more!

This life really isn’t meant to be taken so seriously. Chasing your dreams is allowed to be joyful! And continuing to connect with the same souls who somehow keep finding their way back to each other over and over again really is what it’s all about.

So in case you need to hear it, too: sometimes the most important thing you can do in life is just… dance when the music plays.

You’ll be surprised what it can do for you.
